What next?
Ah well, we didn't get Shiel after a pretty red-hot crack so can't blame the club's effort for trying.
The upside is that there is still a week to go before the trade period winds up. Outside of Kent and Hannaz (neither of which will cost us much in terms of picks), I'm interested to know what's potentially on the menu.
We currently have 34 players on our list and will need to fill that up with 10 more (combination or seniors and rookies). Include Hannaz and Kent, that's 8 spots to fill.
Hickey is all but gone which should get us a late 2nd round from WC, Lonie & Bruce have been discussed, but outside of that, I can't see much more movement from our end.
So do we chase a Wingard, Scully, or another good player that hasn't been floated yet, or just settle for the draft?
I'm worried that even by bringing in Kent and Hannaz, we are still abit light in terms of 'experienced players'.

Re: What next?
Hickey might be swapped for the WCE late first rounder, the compo pick they get for Lycett.
Regardless, our young drafted kids don't really get developed well (Gresh is the exception)
Look at Acres, Billings, Dunstan, D-Mack, then go back to Spencer White etc

Re: What next?
There is probably some A grader on a contract out there amongst the other clubs thinking you know what, the Saints aren't that bad. And need to offload bags of cash, this is my chance to get in on that as i won't get that sort of coin whilst I'm at my current club.
Just saying, long time to go yet.

There will be players out there thinking this is my time to set myself up.
Someone will take the bait...
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Hannebery has already had that thought, although on past 2 years form I wouldn't put him in the A grade categorySt Loxton wrote: ↑Tue 09 Oct 2018 5:54pm There is probably some A grader on a contract out there amongst the other clubs thinking you know what, the Saints aren't that bad. Re: What next?
Hopefully any potential A graders interested in us are told that Richo is literally on a final warning so to speak.
I really fear Richo is a massive turn-off for elite players wanting to move.
Being based at Moorabbin location wise is terrific.
I’m sure many players would love the idea of living bayside- either Brighton, Hampton or Sandy and only a 5 minute commute to work. How good is that??
I’m in Brighton East and location wise it’s terrific

Re: What next?
With our relatively poor recruiting in general, relative to other teams - over the last 10-12 years - our coach (and we've had a procession of them) is the least of our problem.
Players can see if a club has a winning culture and winning formula - and they don't just look at the coach (they realise coaches are here today and gone tomorrow - whether they're Ratten or Malthouse, etc..they are all equally as bad as each other).
