Re: Jacob Townsend
Oh look... another forward pocket.
I’m going to get bagged for being overly negative but have we been linked to a single highly skilled fast mid without injury issues?

As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Re: Jacob Townsend
As well as A graders we need some B graders to improve the team overall. ATM we seem to have a lot of fringe players who
may or may not improve. Take Lonie for example he finished the year well and you would hope he will improve further with
better players around.

I cant see where he fits into our list? I do like his toughness and aggression has plenty of attitude about him, but where does he play?

Re: Jacob Townsend
I seriously do NOT understand the negative comments about JT.
Here was one of the Premiership heroes for the Tiges in 2017. Kicked 6 against the Dockers. Has not had a great year this year.
Neither has our footy club, lest we forget.
Townsend is an incredibly hard nut. Super tough at the contest. A ferocious tackler. Can fulfil a number of roles. Is a very good kick for goal.
Of course we would be interested in his particular skill set. At the moment our man of Steele is pretty much the only real tough nut we've got.
Granted Townsend is not a big possession winner, but he has impact in other ways that are valuable.
Sorry, but it makes perfect sense IMO to be chasing Townsend.

Re: Jacob Townsend
Yeah he and Dempster were both fantastic pick ups from Sydney. My only qualm with Schneids was when he missed some bread and butter shots for goal in the 09 GF. But heck, he wasn't the only one to do it that day.saintbob wrote: ↑Tue 02 Oct 2018 6:22amSchneider was very good for usSainternist wrote: ↑Tue 02 Oct 2018 1:59amYeah a bit like Adam Schneider destroying us in that 2005 PF.

Re: Jacob Townsend
We are fully stocked for forwards so I'd argue only if he can become a midfielder. Anyone think he can play through the midfield?damienc wrote: ↑Tue 02 Oct 2018 11:19pm I seriously do NOT understand the negative comments about JT.

Agreed, plus where does he play? He's just another version of Membrey. I don't get this trade idea at all.

Re: Jacob Townsend
saw this On afl.com this morning in Trade wrap article
"A reported meeting between Jacob Townsend and St Kilda never occurred, according to the Richmond premiership player's manager, Scott Lucas of Phoenix Management. The out-of-contract Tiger is understood to be on Gold Coast's radar, however a new deal at Punt Rd remains a possibility."

Re: Jacob Townsend
Which forwards are we talking about? Those who missed shot after shot at goal for the full year of 2018 or those who could not get a kick.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Wed 03 Oct 2018 5:54amWe are fully stocked for forwards so I'd argue only if he can become a midfielder. Re: Jacob Townsend
I'm assuming you were born in 2001 so you wouldn't remember this however Roo went through a few periods where he couldn't hit the side of a tall building, in actual fact around 2005ish he was copping similar heat to what Paddy has copped this year for not living up to number 1dp expectations. What's my point, don't panick, the kicking yips won't hang around forever. We have some seriously talented forwards that haven't hit their peak yet.chico2001 wrote: ↑Thu 04 Oct 2018 8:49pmWhich forwards are we talking about? Re: Jacob Townsend
Cant recall the current lot ever being in the same league as Rewoldt, why would you even mention that, a dumb statement. Awful comparison and woeful defence of your "fully stocked" description. I would think Townsend would get a game in the saints forward line, no problem at all if, of course the trade ever occurs.

Re: Jacob Townsend
Thankfully the saints aren't interested.
From AFL.com
"Gallagher denied any interest in Geelong's Daniel Menzel and Richmond's Jacob Townsend given St Kilda's depth in the small forward area."

I agree except for the b grader part. He’s a jobber who got lucky. We have too many of these. We don’t have the luck to carry them.

Re: Jacob Townsend
Bahaha that is absolutely absurd. In 2004 he won the AFLPA MVP award after kicking 67.32 from CHF as a 21 year old. His next season was hampered by repeated serious injuries but he still managed to play 16 games and average 15 disposals, 8 marks and 2 goals a game. The next season he played a full season averaging 17 disposals and 10 marks and kicked 65.39. Paddy averaged less than 10 disposals, 5 marks and a goal a game this year.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Thu 04 Oct 2018 9:16pmI'm assuming you were born in 2001 so you wouldn't remember this however Roo went through a few periods where he couldn't hit the side of a tall building, in actual fact around 2005ish he was copping similar heat to what Paddy has copped this year for not living up to number 1dp expectations. Roo was the best player in the competition at 21. At 22 Paddy isn't AFL standard.
