Have another crack at Laverde?
Herald Sun trade news reporting that Essendon midfielder Laverde is gettable. I remember that he was supposedly over the line and sure to join the Saints a couple of years ago but obviously it didn't happen.
How about we forget about Shiel, keep our pick 4 for a young gun mid, and try to get Laverde for half of what we were offering for Shiel and might only have to give up a future second rounder / maybe third round.
The guy has got real ability but was cut down by injury this year - the real question is, will he want to come to us???

Hmmm....similar to Blake Acres in size and hasn't really done anything to suggest he'll be an asset to us. Is he the type we need at the moment?

Re: Have another crack at Laverde?
we should go hard at him again
Better than Amon or Townsend or Kent
Could still be a player IMO

He has done nothing since we forced Essendope to re-sign him. Why would we want him now, he's morphed into Captain Spud.silverhalo wrote: ↑Wed 03 Oct 2018 5:27pm Herald Sun trade news reporting that Essendon midfielder Laverde is gettable. The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Essendon are not to be trusted. Pass.Kick-it-lace-out wrote: ↑Wed 03 Oct 2018 9:31pm No thanks. We need game changers, not list cloggers.

I think we should try to get him.
Showed enough glimpses and still at an age where we expect him to be improving.
Just needs a good consistent run at it IMO

Re: Have another crack at Laverde?
If we had an abundance of second/third round picks I'd be fine with targeting him but we have none this year and our future second rounder is probably going to Sydney. If they'd take Longer, Savage or Newnes for Laverde I'd do it but I doubt Essendon would have any interest.

Yes! Get him and then get Robert Shirley out of retirement!
Get Lenny from the Giants, Squiggy Dunne and Phil Carmine as assistants and we are good to entertain!

Re: Have another crack at Laverde?
gettable = forgettable.
There are no short cuts/half measures - if we want to succeed, our recruiters need to go after the big fish, not small fry - and land one or two or three A graders - like North and Carlton seem to be doing.
We have had many years of lame recruiting to make up for - and we can't disappoint again this year. We are just getting further and further behind, year by year.
We probably need to land 4 A graders this year just to make up for the lost recruiting years.
We seem to be happy with the crumbs/ the scraps and left overs - and then we wonder why our coach/coaches aren't succeeding W/L-wise and want to blame it all on them.
IT'S OUR RECRUITERS that are letting us down BIG TIME - all eyes should be on them again this year. They are the major culprits.

Re: Have another crack at Laverde?
Word is Bombers might put him on the table... would we consider having another go trying to get him?

AFL.com.au believes Laverde has been raised as a possible trade target within club discussions as Essendon attempts to re-contract several regular players to new deals.
The 23-year-old has played nine games so far this season, having never played more than nine in his five years at the club for a total of 39. He signed a two-year contract last September.
He was brought back into the Bombers' side against Collingwood in round 23, kicking two goals against the Magpies from 11 disposals, but faces competition to hold his spot for next week's final against West Coast with forwards Jake Stringer and Orazio Fantasia returning.

Re: Have another crack at Laverde?
Would we trade Ben Long for him? We have a number of small forwards on the list & not many medium forwards. It’s worth considering.

Why??
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
