3 players in debut seasons for WCE premiership side
Kids take time blah blah blah....
Maybe you sometimes need some mature age recruits.
WCE had DUI (Liam Ryan), Rioli and Venables.
So we had the Coff and Clark.
Clark went ok but Coff went backwards on his first year. And the big Claravino, a later pick, didn’t even get a game in our shyte side!

Re: 3 players in debut seasons for WCE premiership side
Venables had 3 touches, Ryan shirked some critical contests and Rioli was a bit part player. If Gaff and Shepherd were available, two of those three would not have played, most likely.
Nothing wrong with Clark's season, and Coffield will be a star. How can you go backwards in your first season? As for Clavarino, give the kid a chance, FFS. Needs to put on some weight and get a bit fitter before we start to throw him down the poo-shute

Also, Phillips averaged about 20 touches in his first season of senior football......not bad, eh? Dunstan and sinclair are still struggling to average 20 a game.

I must have watched a different game compared to most RE Ryan...
Yeah dropped a marked n missed 2 goals but thought almost everything else he did was gold. Hugely influential around the contest, great pressure acts, a few big moments.
At St.Kilda players that get around 14 touches or less are expected to guard space and pressure only

He only played 7 games.
Shame the Cho kept dropping him back to VFL.
Good work Cho! A bit of 'tough love'. What a developer of talent! Go Cho!
Best drop Ed and keep Newnesy and Weller in the AFL side!

Get a grip. Rioli had 7 tackles. Ryan 4.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Sun 30 Sep 2018 12:52pm Venables had 3 touches, Ryan shirked some critical contests and Rioli was a bit part player. If Gaff and Shepherd were available, two of those three would not have played, most likely.

Seriously FFS. It was a grand final with super pressure. Every disposal was tough to get. No easy kicks. They did their jobs well for rookies.

Re: 3 players in debut seasons for WCE premiership side
I don’t understand the comparison. Venables and Rioli are second year players and Ryan is 21. But Clark and Coffield weren’t immediate stars and an 18 year old CHB didn’t play therefore we’re doomed?saintspremiers wrote: ↑Sun 30 Sep 2018 10:30am Kids take time blah blah blah....

Re: 3 players in debut seasons for WCE premiership side
Its actually easier for a first year player to perform better in a top 8 side, especially a top 4 and GF side. He already has the better players, mature and harder bodies around him that can play 120 mins of football.
Clark, Coffield and Claravino will end up having better careers in the end compared to those 3 West Coast players. They are 19 year old kids at the moment.

So Clavarino - 19yo, pick #35 and 0 games.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Sun 30 Sep 2018 2:21pm Its actually easier for a first year player to perform better in a top 8 side, especially a top 4 and GF side. will have a better career than
Venables, 19yo, pick #13, 15 games and 1 flag.
On what basis exactly have you formed this belief?

Re: 3 players in debut seasons for WCE premiership side
Overall, in my opinion based on what I have seen, all 3 players will have better careers than those 3 West Coast players.
Veneables is a different player to Claravino anyway who is a big boy that can play FB or CHB. Veneables played games last year. He had 1 kick yesterday.

Winning a flag and getting one kick is not a reflection on how much better you are then Clark and Coffield....this is bizarre logic

Cam Mooney had a fair career after his input into North's Flag

Fair enough. It can have other meanings one of which cannot be explained on here. I don't think posters would stoop so low to mean that.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sun 30 Sep 2018 5:26pmI assume The Cho is [Ri]Chotakeaway wrote: ↑Sun 30 Sep 2018 2:13pmWhat does "the Cho" mean?BenLong#21 wrote: ↑Sun 30 Sep 2018 1:36pmHe only played 7 games.

What on earth are you referring to?
The Cho is clearly Richo.
A bloke who is so mediocre the best we can possibly hope for is a miraculous 9th.
Everything would have to go right with injuries and the draw for that to happen again like it did in 2016.
Mind you in 2016 - Roo averaged 21 disposals, kicked 41 goals and got 19 Brownlow votes.... Absolutely carried us..

Sheed misses that goal and the games of those 4 would be heavily criticised.

Don't really see the point of the OP
I'd guess just about every team would have had 3 Debutants in every year. ??
