Dillion gave Ali Fahour a glowing reference and advised AFL re Essendon drug saga (costly advice, it seems); Hocking's a Geelong man and the recommendation closely echoes the position put by Geelong Coach on AFL360 before the discussions. Hocking narrowly beat Bains for his job (mentioned as a comparator). Both are close personally with Gillon who seems to be beholding to the powerful clubs and not a serious champion of equalisations (as opposed to AFLX) . Obviously the majority of clubs, particularly the big ones, don't want bottom clubs improving at their expense in the draft pecking order that's why an independent Commission exists (supposedly). Hopefully the full reasons why the bottom three basket cases should not be given meaningful assistance will be set out and read in future in the context of the clubs' performances. "Mr McLachlan was quoted as saying "I will do all I can, except help - unless the Saints need an au pair, of course".

...and I've got no confidence Carlton can either, unless they're targeting ex-Giants players at state level. The Bulldogs and the Hawks seem best at plucking gems at this level. I bristled when I noticed they got any help whatsoever, given their issues are more recent and far more self-inflicted than ours (not that we are anywhere near innocent of shooting ourselves in the foot), but I also don't think it will amount to much.

Carlton shouldn't get one for at least another year, but I can see why they are. I know they played finals in '13 due to Essendon getting the ban, but in all honesty Carlton are going to struggle to be competitive again for a long time.

There is NO WAY however that that soulless franchise the Gold Coast Suns should get yet more assistance and priority picks though at the expense of clubs with supporters and members who front up decade in, decade out. This doesn't address the problem as it is yet another drip feed for a team on their way to a merger with Brisbane.

Brisbane don't need any more concessions. They're on their way back up, plus they were already helped in to four grand finals and three premierships fifteen years ago. That's enough.

Our problem is developing the talent we already have, and recruiting to fill positions we require. I mean how many ruckmen and half forwards does one club need?

It was suggested on SEN today that Carlton will ask Adelaide if there's a player in the SANFL that Adelaide want and they'll package their second round pick with that SANFL player and do the trade for Mitch McGovern

A 'state league' is VFL, SANFL and WAFL.
The 2018 GC and Carlton concessions are for first access to players in these state league competitions.
So Saad, Lee, Milera etc

Yep, no worries. I guess what I meant was that our recruiting was better in the 2000s - not perfect but a lot better.
