My kids go to Haileybury so I've been monitoring the King brothers pretty closely. IF we had the chance to take Max King, I would not hesitate - as someone already mentioned, the King brothers are very athletic for such tall boys and are excellent marks - a few preseasons in the gym to put some meat on them bones and they will be unstoppable. I do like the idea that if one of them gets snapped up by an interstate team, there's always the chance we could try and get him to the club if his brother is already with us.

After the Paddy saga, I'd be the first to say NO NO NO tall forwards with the top pick but there are no parallels here between Paddy and either of the King boys - different beasts.

Most of the key position players taken in first round of the draft have been very underwhelming over the last 20 years.

For every Riewoldt and Buddy there are about 10 Mitch thorp or Lucas cooks.

Exactly. Talls aren't our most pressing need and recent history tells us they are a massive risk in the draft regardless of how well they perform at junior level. We need elite mids and Smith is as close to a sure thing you can get. He has a complete game and looks a certainty to be a high performing 200 game player.

You don't see many athletic mids with good skills who win a load of contested footy failing to make it

In desperate need of a mid so I hope it isn't King but our staff "should" know a bit about him he's rehab with us. I.e. s he lazy, driven, professional etc. Problem is by the time he is ready to train properly it will be draft time so no inside knowledge on his performance

the 3 real choices are Walsh, Rankine and Smith.

Walsh is a long shot in that Carlton would take need to take Lukosius and GC take King Twins which I can't see happening.
Rankine is my choice as he is fast pace and has a real x factor about him which we need. In a vanilla team we need someone who will try things differently and impact the score board. I hope he isn't over looked due to his size. Just like most teams did with Jack Higgins
Smith is a hard working mid who has clawed his way into the top 10., Great work ethic and from all accounts goes in hard to get the ball and has some pace but plays off the half back line. We already have enough players that do that so I prefer Rankine

We've got McCartin, Bruce, Membrey & Battle. So unless we're unloading 2 of them, why on earth would we take King?

Why have 4 s*** players when you can replace him with one good one. That's if he is good otherwise we'll have 5 s*** players. Out of those 4, Membrey and Battle appear the best, Bruce is Ok when he is injury free and McCartin is a bust.
