Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
As others have said, only for a top 5 pick if we could guarantee to draft a star player. Otherwise I'd prefer to keep him. Hopefully he keeps playing well into his 30s.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
Given that he was raising concerns over the future direction of the club with AR - he was certainly thinking about HIS future rather than just going round again with the same ole same ole at the saints
And given the club hasn't been able to attract a big name fish on-baller you can see his point
So if we don't get Shiel he will be our best and fairest winner once again....
But our best is still short of AA level
I'm open to the idea of a trade.

Depends what you mean by 'first round'.
Pick 5-10. Yep.
13-18. Nope.
11 or 12. Toss a coin. Then say nope.

OK, I've been swayed. Get rid of him!

We need to get Geelong first round pick for Steven and on trade to gws with our first round to get Dylan shiel. He's. A gun and a player we need. Only 25 and Steven is going on 29. No brainer. Great player but won 4 bfs in a crap side. Who's going to take votes from him besides Ross and Steele? I'm a top 4 side, he would just finish in top 10 as there are better players. Maybe he will be a better player in a good side.

What and have people on here next year whinging that we have no one who will take the game on and break lines and that our draft picks in 2018 are pathetic.

Geelong can't trade their first round pick.. they have to use it in the 2019 draft (unless they trade out for another clubs first rounder)Barneysaint wrote: ↑Sun 23 Sep 2018 9:23pm We need to get Geelong first round pick for Steven and on trade to gws with our first round to get Dylan shiel. Shiel breaks lines too. Shiel much better user of the ball and a stronger body.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
How many top eights have we reached with Steven playing? Although he has been one of our best players over recent years, he is not an outright champion and the club wont fall over if he goes elsewhere- one player is not a team and we need to be serious about building a team to contest finals, not just sit in hope that Jack will do a cameo performance and slot a couple of goals to get us over the line in a couple of games.

Well - when you ask how many top eights we've reached with Steven and then say one player is not a team - well, you've made your own question irrelevant. How many might we reach with Steven in the team if he had a couple of sure-fire mates around him?

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
The answer is we will never know, but the fact is we have not reached the eight and it doesn't matter if even our most high profile player goes elsewhere for success, as the TEAM is the thing that wins premierships, not about wringing the last drop of blood out of Steven or until recently Roo and Monty in best St Kilda tradition.

Jack Steven equal 8th in the Brownlow
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
Surely opinions have changed following tonight's Brownlow count?
Jack finished 8th overall with 18 votes.
polling in drawn GWS game, a losing side to Richmond, a best on against Melbourne, a loss to GWS and norf.
I cannot see how we improve by trading him out. If we get a younger A grader by trading him out in they will cop the tag and the cycle continues.
Don't forget he has been high top 10 in player ratings as recently as last year. find a way to attract an A grader without offloading steven and I think you would find him hit another gear again.
With Hannebery likely to come to saints I would be looking to offload an inside mid (Sadly a once much-loved player in Dunstan might have to be shopped around) to secure a second rounder for Hanners.
Steven is very much a required player.

Congratulations Jack on a great season in such a difficult year.
Hopefully a better year in 2019 for the team and maybe a long overdue All Australian selection

Not leaving and doesn't want to leave. Period.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
No f****** way.Barneysaint wrote: ↑Sun 23 Sep 2018 10:33am There's been much conjecture about Geelong interested in Steven. I would definitely be interested in trading Steven if we receive their first round draft pick. Why? He's 28 going on 29. Could also put us in the frame to land Dylan Shiel by giving gws our first 2 round draft picks which means we get Hannerbury and Shiel. We get second round draft pick for Hickey to WCE which we on trade to Sydney for Hannerbury and don't need to give up a future second round draft pick. Our midfield would be a lot stronger with hannerbury, shiel, Ross, steel and Gresh running through.
I think our team would like this assuming we have a full list to choose from.
Savage Logan Roberton
Webster Carlisle Clarke
Billings Hannerbury Steel
Gresham Marshall Battle
Mccartin Membury Lonie if not traded
Followers: Pierce, Shiel, Ross
Interchange: Long, Coffield, Acres, McKenzie
Emergencies: Longer, White, Geary, Patton
On the fringe, Dunstan if not traded, Newans, Armitage, Phillips, and Rice.
Need to keep playing the kids like him and Coffield. Give McCartin 2 more years to prove himself. We need a goal sneak in Lonie.
Coaches: Ratten as coach with with Lade, Playfair and Harvey if we can lure him back.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
It's like Roo all over again....we could have had Pies over a barrell for their first round pick and trade but hung on to waste Roos last 5 years or so under tweedle dumb....and NO HE DIDN'T PASS ON HIS KNOWLEDGE AND RAISE UP A SINGLE CENTRE HALF FORWARD OR FORWARD TO TAKE HIS PLACE.
He led, he was a brilliant gut runner, a champion, a God damn leader of men, but we wanted his last years so we could say he finished a Saint, I'm soooooo f@cking proud, we really gained soooo much, we really looked after him for all he did for us.
Yes, let's keep Steven's he's well known as s leader and one who guides others *NOT*. Champion? Hell yes! Time to go, only for the teams future, just like Roo was willing to do but we talked him down.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
Remember Steven is in our top 3 paid players.
To go to another club he would need to take a pay cut.
