Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
There's been much conjecture about Geelong interested in Steven. I would definitely be interested in trading Steven if we receive their first round draft pick. Why? He's 28 going on 29. Could also put us in the frame to land Dylan Shiel by giving gws our first 2 round draft picks which means we get Hannerbury and Shiel. We get second round draft pick for Hickey to WCE which we on trade to Sydney for Hannerbury and don't need to give up a future second round draft pick. Our midfield would be a lot stronger with hannerbury, shiel, Ross, steel and Gresh running through.
I think our team would like this assuming we have a full list to choose from.
Savage Logan Roberton
Webster Carlisle Clarke
Billings Hannerbury Steel
Gresham Marshall Battle
Mccartin Membury Lonie if not traded
Followers: Pierce, Shiel, Ross
Interchange: Long, Coffield, Acres, McKenzie
Emergencies: Longer, White, Geary, Patton
On the fringe, Dunstan if not traded, Newans, Armitage, Phillips, and Rice.
Need to keep playing the kids like him and Coffield. Give McCartin 2 more years to prove himself. We need a goal sneak in Lonie.
Coaches: Ratten as coach with with Lade, Playfair and Harvey if we can lure him back.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
Understand but not many players play well. I would have Shiel for Steven in a heart beat. Steven going on 29. Shiel is 25.it like Steven is taking votes from many people. We have no superstars. Let's see how he goes in a top 4 side. Wouldn't make top 3 good player but he is a good player in a shite side. We are useless with the players he gets votes against. We are a bottom 4 side. Don't need to be a star player to win it 4 times in our crap list. In all due respect to Steven, we are a bottom club. Good player but not in the calibre of any top 20 mid fielders in the league. Not even close.
You would have Selwood, dangerfield, Mitchell, Kennedy, shiel, pendelbury, ziebel, Kelly, Cogniglio, Beams, merrett, shoey, gaff, cotchin, Martin, Cripps, O'Mera, Viney, Brayshaw, Oliver.

I do find it staggering that he can win 4 B&F but is still yet to make an AA final 22.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
I remember when we were allegedly offered a first rounder for Armo, which was passed up and then he was cooked two seasons later.
At Jack’s age, if we could still get a first rounder, I’d say it should be entertained. Knowing us though, it would turn into another Hugh Goddard.

Anybody leaning towards a positive response to the question posed needs to rid themselves of all pretense of claiming to be a StKilda supporter and ban themselves from posting on this site.
Then go sit among your fellow Filth supporters to watch the big telly at Melbourne Park (or wherever) next Saturday. You need to be with your own on the big day.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
Yep high first pick and get it done
Imagine bringing in a Shiel PLUS a Walsh/Rankine type for the loss of Steven ?? 29, disposal not going to get any better - been great servant but not L Hayes/R Harvey elite so trade up is ok for mine
This is a smart Sydney move but we do t do those

And then enter the lottery that you might get a Jack Watts or a Petracca who have not lived up to the hype.
I would rather show some loyalty and keep our champions.

Gotta be in it to win it .
Standing still not taking any risk gets u where we are now..trying to turn early picks into later to get 2 for 1 bargains with an empty elite cupboard ...
We are 5 years away I’d be bold now

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
Yeah I see your point. But unlikely he’ll be part of any flag push. Would be willing to do it for a top five pick. Then, as Teflon suggested, trade it on for Shiel and still have a pick four in the draft. All hypothetical though....looks like he’s staying.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Sun 23 Sep 2018 11:58amAnd then enter the lottery that you might get a Jack Watts or a Petracca who have not lived up to the hype.

Yeah high first rounder. Say 3-6. Yep.

No. Not leaving anyway. Club won't let him go and is required more than ever.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
I would do it. This is the sort of smart move that Hawthorn and Sydney would do. Jack Steven has been a wonderful player for us but unfortunately for him was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was too young to play in 09 and 10 and will be too old to play in our next Grannies. If Geelong want him then we want their first pick which will be around pick 12 plus upgrade our next pick which is in the 50's I believe. So if we go pick 12 and our next pick was upgraded from pick 55ish to pick 45ish that would be a huge win for us. Provided we don't burn pick 12 like we did for the pick we got for Stanley.Barneysaint wrote: ↑Sun 23 Sep 2018 10:33am There's been much conjecture about Geelong interested in Steven. If the pick is top 8 then probably worth it. Anything less and no way.

Only for a top four pick in this draft. We need three more Jack Sevens, not one less. However I would trade him for Walsh, Smith or Rankine.

Re: Would you trade Steven for a first round draft pick?
Problem is is you trade Steven why would Shiel want to come. Obviously money is a consideration but wanting to be successful will be important and trading away B&F winner wont help that. Geelong need to be careful as if they trade away first rounder and dont get one back they cant trade forward picks for 3 years i believe.

We are into idolising our stars and squeezing every last ounce of their marketing appeal (seeing's though onfield performances won't be helping sell sponsorship, memberships and merchandise).
Steven will be played until he is 33 and we'll be 'asking' him where he wants to play in his final year and making sure there is a spot for him on gameday even if he's hobbling on one leg
