The Untouchables
Lot's of talk about our stocks being sought by other clubs and about who we are willing to trade off along with picks.
Who are the players we will simply not consider in a trade?
How valuable are our picks and should we retain them ? considering we are in the throws of a massive rebuild.
Who and what is "untouchable"?

Re: The Untouchables
Players like dusty, Degoey et al are untouchable. Can play multiple roles, electric on the burst good size and play above their height and kick goals including clutch goals
We got any of them?

Re: The Untouchables
The problem with answering this question is that if I give my honest answer other posters will crack the s***s and call me a troll. Lets put it this way, I don't agree with the strategy of our new List Manager. I have nothing against Hanners but I would not have recruited him. My approach would be to cash in 2 of our best players for top 10 picks. One of them this year and the other one next year. My reasoning is that by the time St Kilda will be a genuine chance of a flag these 2 players will be over 30. Cash them in now and when we challenge in 4 years we will have 2 young guns with 50+ games under their belts. The new List Manager's approach is to make St Kilda better next year whereas my approach would be to make St Kilda awesome by 2022 to give us the best chance of winning a flag.

Re: The Untouchables
good point..but we do have some young players that appear to have positive and a pleasing future.
Webster, Gresh, McKenzie , membrey and a bit older Jake & J. Steven... I reckon these guys are untouchable for a starters. Ben Long has the makings of a ripper so I'd keep him too.
The players you mentioned we could have if we had decent selectors... but thats another story...for now who do we keep.

No we don't to state the obvious but we have money to spend & we can buy some & hopefully recruit some that will become one.We have an opportunity to get some real talent into our club we just have to be smart on how we go about it.IMOThe Fireman wrote: ↑Sat 22 Sep 2018 9:05pmgood point..but we do have some young players that appear to have positive and a pleasing future.

west coast says you can have gaff, he wants to head home, but it'll cost you steven.
mcgovern will come as well, he'll cost you carlisle. kennedy is the knives, but we want membrey.

Re: The Untouchables
A plan needs to be implemented, encompassing a myriad of factors inclusive of age, games played, where we are now, where we want to be in two seasons with an eye to where we expect to be in five years inclusive of our brand and game style which is the rock & the hard place as currently we don't have one. So looking at that two to five year period, inclusive of this one, we will have at least three top five draft picks, possibly a priority in that time.
Whilst Hannerbury appears a done deal, I do not believe we should trade out a round one draft pick in these next three drafts, identify and target two or three free agents.
Build from the following (my untouchables):
Carlisle
Roberton
Webster
Coffield
McKenzie
White
Clavarino
Austin
Steven
Steele
Billings
Acres
Clark
Paton
Langlands
Membrey
Battle
Long
Bruce
Pierce
Marshall
From that list with 3 x FA's added plus 3 x round one picks, plus 3 x round two picks plus surprises from other rounds, plus Hannebury and whoever else we trade for if not picks...our list takes shape identifying weaknesses and holes to achieve our style and game plan.
Without that plan or style identified we won't go anywhere. With the apparent uncertainty over our coach this makes the exercise, in the absence of a crystal ball, very difficult. Good luck to our management & recruiters.

No one is untouchable for the right price.
Yes we all hope that they are one club players but i would just be happy winning a premiership with 22 rejects from other clubs.

There is not a single one at St Kilda.
I would potentially trade any single one of them.

Re: The Untouchables
Whats the problem? By your reckoning if a deal could be done to trade jack Steven and a pick for B.Grundy then you would'nt do it. What about a deal trading Seb Ross for Dangerfield or Gaff or what about Gresham for McGovern. Last time I looked saints had no player in the 42 man AA squad and cant recall any being in any of the top ten awards and probably wont have a top ten in the Brownlow either. There is your answer right there. Silly club loyalty gets you now where. The idea is to improve the list, quickly and significantly.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sun 23 Sep 2018 11:29amYou need to find another club to follow. Concur but the risk is you lose ALL leadership and that’s why Hanners makes some sense....ListManager wrote: ↑Sat 22 Sep 2018 8:58pm The problem with answering this question is that if I give my honest answer other posters will crack the s***s and call me a troll. I’d trade out our older guns now who have currency and stockpile elite kids with picks this year and next

Re: The Untouchables
As long as Hanners does not cost us more than pick 30 then that's fine. If we end up giving Sydney pick 3 for him then this club is stuffed. Even if we got pick 10 back it would still be a disaster IMHO.Teflon wrote: ↑Sun 23 Sep 2018 12:08pmConcur but the risk is you lose ALL leadership and that’s why Hanners makes some sense....ListManager wrote: ↑Sat 22 Sep 2018 8:58pm The problem with answering this question is that if I give my honest answer other posters will crack the s***s and call me a troll. Re: The Untouchables
No one. I love Gresham but if GWS offered us Kelly for him I'd be packing Jade's bags for him. I think Clark will be a gun but if Gawn has a falling out with Melbourne and wants to come to us and Clark is the price then Hunter will be on his way. Don't want us to trade Billings but if Carlton offer us pick one then Jack is a Blue.
Club legends become untouchable. We could never trade Harvs or Roo because that would tear the fabric of the club apart and disillusion thousands of supporters. Right now we just have a few good players and a handful of players with potential.

Not sure who would take Weller, Armitage , Dunstan etc. They are near done and dusted at a team that finished bottom 4. Geelong might want Longer and Newnes would get a game at some of the lower clubs...and thats it.

Weller and Armo would be welcome with open arms at the Southport Sharks looking for a B2B flag in 2019.

Re: The Untouchables
Simply no. Jack Steven is not elite but an A grader as he doesn't fulfil your points of reference, ie the play above his height part and clutch goals is debateable too.
On your specifications alone I reckon Membrey and Gresham are very close. Although the clutch goal thing is debateable.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Yes there are some funny people at West Coast. Replace older players from their side for potential younger guns that fit their age profile. Whoopy we gain some leadership at expense of quality that will cost us in 4 years time.desertsaint wrote: ↑Sat 22 Sep 2018 10:55pm west coast says you can have gaff, he wants to head home, but it'll cost you steven.
