If this chase by West Coast is true, did it come about before or after the 4 game 27 year old Abbott knocked them back?

Which numbers are they? Source?Liam_G wrote: ↑Tue 18 Sep 2018 11:41am Hickey is highly rated across all clubs. The numbers clubs have access too to indicate a Top-10 ruckman in the comp. It's the extra-curricular activities that have hampered his progress to elite. Don't be surprised if others show interest as well, but we'd be nuts to let him go.

Re: West Coast Chasing Hickey
At the start of the year I asked Gawny who he'd prefer to play against (Hickey or Longer) and his response was 'Pierce'. Gawn said that both of them have given him grief in the past and with both ruckman carrying injuries into and throughout the year (they were both cooked in the end) then I would be of the mind that they are both one good pre-season away from getting closer to their potential. I'd take the feedback from the best ruckman in the comp far more readily than that from those who clearly have little idea. If we were to let either go then I'd want something decent in return.

Re: West Coast Chasing Hickey
nope.... I cannot see pick 20 for Hickey, pick 35 seems more likely
35 to Sydney for Hannebury?

Re: West Coast Chasing Hickey
It really all depends on what they are offering in return.
We got good draft picks in return from McEvoy and Stanley. A Stanley type pick in the very low 20's gets it done for me.
Dont see the need to trade him for a pick 30 something which we will then waste on a player who will be making up the numbers at Sandy.

Re: West Coast Chasing Hickey
The saints are the premier ruck nursery, we use early draft picks, develop them for 5 years, then trade them out for half the value we paid.
Stanley was the only guy we got a good return out of... only the guy we took with the pick is now de-listed and Stanley has played 100+ AFL games.

Re: West Coast Chasing Hickey
You know what would be ironic, is if we end up getting the compo pick that WCE get for losing Lycett... eagles end up with a better ruckmen for half the salary and we wind up with no ruck... but get a banged up 28 YO, terrible kicking, chronically injured mid instead.

Re: West Coast Chasing Hickey
Tom was a really good player 2 years ago a was a big part of our short term success ,but he has gone backwards faster than Malcom Turnbull .Why the 3rd man up rule ,the game plan ,injury ,he can't run out of site on a foggy night( but nor can most ruck men) ,his work rate has really dropped off, his marking around the ground has been non existent & he was handy when resting up forward he could take a few grabs & kick a few goals but that has all stopped as well. I would like to keep him unless we can get some thing we can't refuse but I doubt it. IMO hopefully get him fully fit get a decent coach with a decent game plan & things may turn around.

Jebus.
Hickey's best is pretty good. Thing is, there is zero consistency in performance and he has been travelling as a middling, average footballer.
Yes, he could get games at other clubs.
Yes, he could potentially play at a much higher level.
Will he ever do it with us?

Hmmm interesting.... he struggles with consistency playing out of Melbourne. I wonder how he’ll go with a 5 hour plane trip each way every second week thrown in on top.bigred wrote: ↑Wed 19 Sep 2018 10:22am Jebus.
