We may have no choice but to keep him. We have already lost/cut 7

More likely we'll have no choice when he wants to leave, he won't stay for a one year deal… we are just being dicks. Just sign him up FFS.

Why? The guy is a sub standard small forward who has played half a dozen alright games out of 50. If clubs are really into him wait and see what is on offer. If no one is interested then a 1 year contract at absolute best.

• He's actually close to if not the most in-form small forward in the comp.

• He just turned 22 and clicked over 50 games.

• We have at least 8 spots free on the main list and one decent pick (Freeman, Gilbert, Goddard, Minchington, Stevens, Wright, Weller, Longer)

• He wouldn't cost much in salary space.

• He loves the club and gives a s***.

• We don't have many small forwards on the list.

• Is ahead of Long right now, comfortably in our best 22.

I’m sorry but playing a few good games when your career is on the line is not enough. He was putrid both last year and the first 3/4 of this year.

2017 / 2018 - 23 games

14 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 marks, 46 shots on goal.

Not bad if consider that putrid, granted these numbers are no-where near his last month which has been elite.

Trade him or cut him, I’m not fussed either way.

Or maybe the penny dropped and he's showing us the possibility of the player he'll become. Some players take time to show what they have got, thats why I believe not giving Freeman another year was a mistake. Folks on here are crying out for our players to develop, one starts showing signs of doing just that, and suddenly they want him out the door. Fickle bunch.

Yes, we're having a decent clean out...must be planning another influx of spuds during the offseason!

If we lose Lonie we're suddenly looking a bit bare on the small forward front.

I'm hearing that the story of 3 year offers to Lonie are bulls***.

I think the Club is right in only offering him 1 year.

Think it’s bs too.

I would definitely retain him for 12 months. It’s a risk though because if his form line continues into 2019, the offers WILL start to come in and the club might be caught out.

This! I just cannot believe that the kid hasn't been signed up. 2-3 yrs, absolute no brainer - we have so many spots on our list it's not funny!

He's worth at least $20 per game.

Freeman - 2 games this year
Wright - 2 games this year
Goddard - 1 game this year
Connellan - no games
Minchington - no games
Stevens - 2 games - retired
Gilbert - regular

Only 1 regular player so far. That would mean that our overall team would look the same next year if no more are cut from the list. Not likely - we haven't even done 1 trade yet.

I see St Kilda doing a minimum of 3 trades at least, with the Cats looking at Billy, the Eagles at Hick, and the Blues at Jack Lonie. Others on here have also mentioned some of our highly regarded talent requesting a possible trade, such as Acres requesting a trade back to WA, and maybe Jack Billings to the Bombers (although that rumour does the rounds at the end of every season.)

With the team we currently have, since and including the 2014 season, we have had three seasons which have yielded 6 wins or less. Big issues with the development of the players, massive issues.

JACK Lonie is being courted by as many as four clubs as St Kilda ponders a contract for the small forward.
Foxfooty.com.au can reveal Carlton and Collingwood have met with the left-footer in recent times, while one other Melbourne-based team and a non-Victorian club have also inquired about his availability.

Lonie is said to be content at the Saints but is keen for a multi-year deal and is prepared to move if an offer of that length is forthcoming elsewhere.

Would take a Rnd 2 pick!!!!!
Doubtful if you would get a round 2 pick, but trades are weird nowadays.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

Me too. Many are not as willing as Lonie in this team.

Really? I think they thought offerring Mitch Brown a year later was their idea of handbacks. That didn't happen.

I’ve long been a hater

In fact I’ve almost found him my most frustrating saint of the current gen

That said he as earned a contract in my opinion

Very valuable player over the last 6 or so rounds and with the right structures could be a valuable 2 goal plus small fwd

I hope we keep Lonie, because we've put a lot of time into him. He's played a lot of games now and is due for a breakout season. Agree he's ahead of Long, but Long has the X-Factor we so desperately need at the club now. I'd like to see both of them in the starting 22 round 1 next season. Remember Lonie's brother played at Collingwood I think, so they may gazump us.

According to Stoney Billy Longer is being looked at by the Cats, and after Friday night I reckon he's spot on. He would get the full time 1st ruck possie there, which he probably deserved with us really.
Mav Weller would be exactly what the Suns need, and he could join up with his brother there.
I wouldn't be surprised to see both of those guys leave us for greener pastures.

He deserves to be retained but he will never be a Toby Greene and still might not cut it for September action

Agree with Lonie getting another 12 months but Longer our 1st ruck....that is a joke surely....he cant even get a decent possession around the ground, actually he cant even pick the ball up when it is on the ground and lacks basic skills, cant even handball with any efficiency. Get rid of him now before the pussycats change their mind. Cats are good at picking up C grade ruckmen..ROFL
