Tom Lynch fallout
The obvious has been reported in that should Richmond land Lynch on some decent coin, there will be some decent players that would need to be let go to accommodate him. Is there any serious players that we could pinch?
I like Brandon Ellis but we've got enough half-backs. Outside of that I'm not too familiar with Richmond's list to know who'd suit us that would be gettable.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
I have no doubt that if you put a lot of those tigers players from last nights team straight into our team and richos "structure" they would look like absolute spuds.
Being a borderline best 22 premiership player doesn't necessarily make you a gun player yourself, we've learnt this from TDL and now Savage.
Higgins is a gun, but not going anywhere obviously… Rioli?
Can't see any decent players leaving the #1 side unless they get absurd offers.
We should be focusing on their player development, skills and fitness programs.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
Their VFL team has been good, Anyone 20/21 who cant quite crack a senior game but is improving... target them... Someone mentioned Menadue... I dont know enough about him but that is the type of guy we should be targeting... Not only from Tigers but all clubs with cap issues... go for their OOC young players and pay them double what they are getting and dangle game time... they are often frustrated at playing in the reserves..outside66 wrote: ↑Fri 07 Sep 2018 12:54pm The obvious has been reported in that should Richmond land Lynch on some decent coin, there will be some decent players that would need to be let go to accommodate him. If they are not playing each week, then you dont have to pay a first rounder for them yet if you pick the right one they can be guns in 2 years,,, see Steele
That is how to build in the current climate.
Forget Menzel/Hannabery types

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
I think you may be dreaming.
Riewoldt has already said that he and other senior players will be taking home less from next season. The obvious reason was to fit Lynch in.
Tigers likely to win their second flag and playing group will be hungry for more.
I doubt that any of their decent players will be going anywhere. Only real chance will be players who do not see themselves as Best 22.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
There may be 1 or 2. Miles was looking for a new club last year and most probably this year. Prestia I was told is on S750k a year, so some of those players wont back off their contracts when they dont have too. Most of their spare players are smaller fast types that fit the Richmond game plan but not St Kildas method unless Ratten brings major change.
By the way where are all these halfbacks we have? Are we talking Geary, Mckenzie, White et al. Give me a break....bloddy hell!!!!!

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
Can someone explain how the reigning Premier can outbid all other clubs for Lynch and still be under the salary cap?

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
1/ Lynch will be on good money but could have gained more elsewhere. I doubt the Tigers outbid anyone with $$$. $$$$ alone would not have been the only reason for him to have chosen the Tigers.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Mon 10 Sep 2018 12:00am Can someone explain how the reigning Premier can outbid all other clubs for Lynch
2/ What they were dangling was:
- A club that players want to be at now
- A club that has the greatest chance to win a flag over the next couple of years
- A club that will benefit greatly from having a key forward like him (Riewoldt will be an exeeelent foil and contrast to Lynch
- He gets to now play every second game at the home of football in front of huge crowds.
The Pies could offer most of that, but not all of it, but probably offered more $$$ too.
3/ What really roots FA is the club that gains the player pays nothing for him. ALL clubs have to chip in with a pick downgrade to pay the compo. FA was meant to help equalisation, whereas it is a doorway for good clubs to improve and/or tread water.
Riewoldt was interviewed not long ago about his new contract where he has signed on for LESS money. He said it was all about ensuring TEAM success and that he was sure that the other senior (ie expensive) players were doing the same. ie They were taking a hair cut to fit in Lynch.
PS: If I was Lynch I would have chosen the Tigers too.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
Richmond have a handful of stars, a whole lot of role players and a game plan that suits the list. They might lose some fringe players but I don't think there's going to be any particularly high quality players squeezed out.
I see their list like this:
Elite
Martin
Rance
Riewoldt
Cotchin
Very good
Prestia
Rioli
Caddy
Above average
Edwards
Nankervis
The rest are GOPs in an excellent system.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
I thought about putting Houli in that category but I think he's past his prime and slowing down significantly. Certainly a few years ago he was bordering on elite

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
Never seen Houli as elite- a foot soldier who is well drilled, like 75% of the Richmond list. Saints will have to move quick if they are going to grab any of the Tiger players from any fallout as per posted previously by another poster.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
A few years back when he was racking up 24 disposals per game at 80% efficiency I'd say he was definitely very close to if not elite. He's lost a bit of pace now and isn't quite as prolific but still a decent player.

Houli too old.
Dan Butler is a gun.
Connor Menadue would be a decent pickup as would Callum Moore.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
A good footballer but I would hazard a guess and say that he would have no reason for leaving the tigers. He is clearly required there because they dropped a couple to get him back in after injury to play against the hawks last week. Made the AA squad this year and looks like he is on the up.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
My great hope is that GCS put a line in the sand here and match the Richmond offer and make them trade for him. 1. That would mean we get pick 3; not 4 and 2. It would mean that Richmond have to give up some talent/picks (rather than accumulate more) that the rest of the comp effectively has to fund.
This is why FA sucks balls - until AFL tells the Player's Association to f#%k off and that a FA can only go to a club that didn't finish in the top 4 the year prior (or something similar) then we'll keep heading towards an EPL haves/have nots comp.

Re: Tom Lynch fallout
That would be absolutely awesome...but generally, when your co-Captain and possibly best player dumps you, it's a colossal slap in the face. I can't imagine Cochrane wanting him back.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Thu 13 Sep 2018 12:55pm My great hope is that GCS put a line in the sand here and match the Richmond offer and make them trade for him. 1. FWIW, the Tigers have had a dream run with injuries and form since the middle of last year, there's not much to get excited about under their top 25.
