Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
What picks have eagles got to swap, get a 2nd or early 3rd would take it,same with Longer, back in Marshall and Pierce. If we lose both Hickey and Longer would definately look at Pruess from Roos

Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
If we went into next season with Pruess, Pierce and Marshall and managed to get 2nd-3rd round picks for Hickey and Longer, I would be very happy with that outcomemad saint guy wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 3:00pm HIckey is easily the best ruckman on our list and we should both have another ruck in our sights (preferably Pruess or Darcy) if we are going to trade him, and we need to get something valuable in return. I'd much rather offload Longer for pick 35 than Hickey for pick 30

I thought he was okay, keep for another season, depending on who we get!!!!!Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 4:59pmWhat did you make of Lewis' games Stonecold? I reckon the kid should be a keeper.

Hickledik is our best 200+cm midfielder, not our best ruck, as he is not a Ruckman!!!!!Barneysaint wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 4:00pm Best ruckman we got. Richo didnt give him a go. 2016 he was in my opinion All Australian at one point. Go injured and was never given a fair go.

Would prefer we offload Longer but I'm pretty sure no clubs would be interested.

Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
Worried about this - Hickey goes there and really kicks on - just like Cripps and Hutchings. Or McEvoy at the Hawks.
After all the years and development we have put in to Hickey he goes to Eagles and becomes a very handy player. No thanks.
The problem is coaching, not Hickey, and not Longer either. I'm worried if Geelong get knocked out Friday night they'll take Billy and watch him kick on then. Keep both of them.
Don't want Lycett. No point.

Could be right there. Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
I have Hickey contracted for 2019 but Longer out of contract.
Did some give Longer a contract extension.

So Dragit, does your post also read...
I'm not personally pumped about trading out our absolutely abysmal ruck trade manoeuvres?
I accept and acknowledge our trading and drafting has been far from good and agree with most when they say coaching and development has been very poor.
I will not subscribe to the theory of holding on to players in the blind hope they might become the next Gawn, Martin, Fyfe, Yeo, Greene or Lloyd.
Nor will I lose too much sleep in the fear that they become Cripps, Hutchings and McEvoy at other clubs. I fear that is all they'll be if they stay under this current regime's development.

Not quite sure when Hickey was in All Australian form, maybe in the u/16's but never at AFL level.Barneysaint wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 4:00pm Best ruckman we got. Richo didnt give him a go. 2016 he was in my opinion All Australian at one point. Go injured and was never given a fair go.

Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
His 2016 season was very good. Averaged 13 disposals, 3 marks, 3.6 clearances and 28 hitouts per game. Not AA level, but clearly better than your standard starting ruckman. A quiet few weeks to end the season brought his averages down as well. Not to mention that he beat Max Gawn twice that yearchico2001 wrote: ↑Thu 06 Sep 2018 12:20amNot quite sure when Hickey was in All Australian form, maybe in the u/16's but never at AFL level.Barneysaint wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 4:00pm Best ruckman we got. Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
Hickey had his best year in the lead up to contract negotiation ..... his best year contributed to paying him overs!!! Needs some tough love and must harden up. Tipping this will happen if he leaves St.Kilda and gets some decent coaching

Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
I'm not a huge fan of ruckmen in general and believe that there are only a handful of genuine gun ones that regularly alter the course of games.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 10:20pmSo Dragit, does your post also read...

But I think Hickey gets an unfair wrap on here, like Lonie… once people decide they're s***, they can't see any of the good stuff they bring.
He's obviously not a pure hitout beast, but IMO Hickey is comfortably our best ruckmen and easily better than Lycett who people were frothing about.
From all AFL rucks Hickey is
# 2 contested possessions
# 3 clearances
# 4 centre clearance
# 5 stoppage clearance
Has over 8 hitouts to advantage per match - 1 less than witts, mcevoy, naitanui
Clearly Richo doesn't like Tom and he has subsequently stuffed his development, but I wouldn't be moving him on unless we get a really decent pick and/or we get a better ruckmen in.
Nankervis is proving that you don't need a 50 hitout/PM ruckmen to win flags… I'd sooner a 15 disposal 25 hitout ruckmen than 2 disposal 35 hitout player any day.

Re: Eagles interested in Hickey
Well put Dragit, good stats. Nankervis is a good example. Geelong is also a good example of a team with A grade mids who either suffer or have to work both ways (of which some don't) because of a ruck deficiency.
As well as injuries, GWS have felt the pinch without Mummy.
The Eagles have covered the loss, to a degree, of Natanui more so because they had a recent season to get used to it.
If the ruckman is not a star, he certainly needs to be honest, combative and work to his limitations under instruction from a coach and a very good midfield.
