Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
We all knew this was coming.
So why didn't they declare the North game as his farewell game?
Give him a banner. a lap on honour, chaired off the ground, interview = Respect
Instead he gets dumped via press release 10 days later = NO RESPECT
Another piss-poor decision by our club.

Thanks Sam! Had some great games over his career. Helped turn the second half of the drawn grand Final the Saints way.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
Good. Sam's been a fine servant and clearly a cracker of a bloke to have around our club. Sincerely - thank you for your service.
However - Sam's also been the bellwether of our list for 10 years.
Basically - we've all known that he's a running and tackling machine ... and very good at that. However - the football part of the skill set (i.e. kicking and handballing) has rarely been a strength ... in fact, his kicking is rarely above atrocious So - in all his time on our list ... we've not been able to draft, develop or recruit a better version of Sam. That says everything about our disgraceful talent identification/recruiting and list management.
With a bit of like Brandon White will now get some consistent game time.

Agree, is he the last one of the grand final players? Terribly handled.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 11:03am We all knew this was coming.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
I'd say Gilbo was probably given the choice to go out on his own terms, but he isn't retiring.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 11:03am We all knew this was coming.

That said, it's a shame he didn't get a proper send off, he's been a wonderful servant to our club.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
He didn't retire, he has not been offered another contract. Maybe he didn't want to have attention drawn to the fact of him getting the boot. Always has struck me as a bit of an introvert too.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 11:03am We all knew this was coming.

Every time that AFL Alert goes off on my iPhone, I think Richo has got the arse.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
Sound career.
As mentioned above, was critical in turning a Grand Final.
Could break lines and do some very good things.
Thank you Sam.

Haaa - Ditto with me.
Between our two phones, iPad and tablet we get a chorus of sirens echoing around the house.
Then I yell at Mrs Enrico - RICHO's GONE!!!
But alas no.
We live in hope!

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
Totally agree. The lack of respect shown to a guy that gave his all for the club is disappointing. Sure Gilbo had his faults, but he deserved to go out with a bit more respect than what's been shown today.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Wed 05 Sep 2018 11:03am We all knew this was coming.

Love Sammy. Always have. Sure he had a few bad games, but they were far, far fewer than his good ones.
Will miss him. Good luck for the future Sammy.

Good luck Sam.
Will never forget when you turned us around in the 3rd quarter against the pies in 2010, screwed up their match ups, scored a critical goal.
Thanks for everything

Thanks Gilbo
Really enjoyed watching you play during the 'glory days' of the late 2000s

Well done Gilbo great career.
No bring on 3 or 4 more delistings and the Savage off season cull (minus Richo sadly) will be complete

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
That’s a shame.
He’s been a terrific versatile player for us and I had him in our best as recently as Round 23.
Others will disagree, but I always rated him very highly.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
Sammy, you've been a ripper. No one ever doubted your effort or your pressure. When that beautiful left foot connected with the middle of the ball, it was a sight to behold.
Thank you for wearing the guernsey with such pride over so many years. You will be missed as a true Sainter and real clubman.
If this is the end, all the best for whatever you do next.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
Was a genuinely great player in our GF years. Then the Kim Duthie scandal ruined him mentally and years of injuries physically limited him. 2017 was his first decent year since 2011 but this year he was well and truly cooked.
Thanks for the effort, Gilbo - that's one thing you could never question about him. I really did think we should have traded him after the scandal though while his value was still very high but the relationship with his teammates damaged. Probably could have got a pick in the early teens for him after the 2011 season.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
Send off game would have been good.
He could have ran through the banner with Kimmy.
Thanks, Gilbo.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
Last of the GF 2009 - 2010 teams.
Always liked Gilbert. Attack on the ball and willingness to play anywhere on the field (is there a position he has not played?).
Would think that his body is just about cooked. He has been in and out of the team this year so couldnt think that another team would list him.
Disapointed that he didnt get fairwell game. Definately deserved it. Again the management of Stkilda has a lot to be desired.

Re: Sam Gilbert Gone
The players’ response to his goal against North was a fair indication that this was his last game.
Good career at St Kilda after coming from a rugby league background
One of our better players in his final game, which is a real worry
Thanks for all your efforts, Sam
