Re: Scrimshaw
We should be targeting exactly these types.. 20 to 21 years olds with upsides.. Like we did so successfully with Jack Steele.Thesaint127 wrote: ↑Sun 02 Sep 2018 3:26am Read we are front runners to sign him from go as he wants more opportunities
Thoughts???
So I hope this report is correct, (got a link to it?)
And it would give us another jack!
Re: Scrimshaw
Very talented player. On talent he would rate highly.
Worry. Didn’t really fire up at The Gold Coast It could be argued GC’s poor culture and development.
Maybe? Or he may lack a real hard competitive edge. Similar maybe to Jack Watts.
Has great talent but doesn’t produce it on a regular basis.
Proceed with caution would be my thoughts.

Re: Scrimshaw
Possibly.
As stated super talented but competitiveness is my concern.
History has lead me to believe if they aren’t super competitive they never reach their potential.
Remember Cale Morton, Chris Yarren,Beau Dowler etc.

We were looking at him months ago. One to watch.

Played in the same team as Josh Battle at Haileybury so they know each other very well. He was very highly rated at the school, and the one most likely to make it; super talented player but had tickets on himself - hopefully he's a bit more grounded now

Top 10 pick along with Will Brodie. Both Vic boys. Very good footballers. Should try get them both.

Why would we want a bloke who can’t get a game at the Suns?

Re: Scrimshaw
A change of environment can do wonders and he grew up locally which helps. Also a former top ten pick that is still a kid still. Plenty of improvement left in him. He can bloody play and has a killer left foot.
Swap Mav Weller and a 3rd or 4th rounder for him.

Being a former Top 10 Pick means nothing. He may be worth getting, but not for this reason.
If it did we should jump om Toumpas a former 4th pick

Any kid from interstate would struggle at the GCS. The joint is a dump. Of course we won't just grab him because he was a top ten pick. In a new environment he could flourish. Happens with alot of ex Vic kids as history shows. He is just about to turn 20.

Re: Scrimshaw
What you are stating there is irrelevant to your reasoning that we should take him because he was a pick 10. Where he was taken is now meaningless.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 02 Sep 2018 10:08pmToumpas has been around for years and is no good.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 02 Sep 2018 9:51pm Being a former Top 10 Pick means nothing. It is however relevant to looking at him. As I stated I have nothing against looking at him. But to say we should take him because he was a pick 10 is not an argument at all.
Our recruiters need to assess whether he can be good enough, and not look at where he was once taken. This applies equally to Toumpas and Scrimshaw.

He is relatively new to AFL and a very highly rated junior that went top 10 which shows his ability and potential long term capability. Its just one of many reasons why we would want to nab him.
That aside, Scrimmers has massive potential to become a very good footballer. Much like Jack Steele.

Same as if the Saints try and trade Paddy that any interested club is not going to place any weight at all on us having taking him at pick 1.

Re: Scrimshaw
I think you are confusing Scrimshaw with Will Brodie who has the uncle at Carlton.

Re: Scrimshaw
Spot on Hayes66, anyone who wants to recruit Scrimshaw hasn’t seen him play in the NEAFL or against men.
He’s tall, skilled and nice left foot but competitiveness and attack on the contest makes Rhys Stanley look like Carl Ditterich and Jack Watts look like Shane Mumford.
Avoid unless the price is next to nothing.
People just getting caught up in him being a top ten pick.
Might as well bring Luke Molan out of retirement.

If you want to invest in a under developed talent target Will Setterfield at GWS.
Will be a star of the competition, think Patrick Cripps.

Re: Scrimshaw
Setterfield and Cerra would be my top interstate targets
Shiel would be great but just can’t see him coming to the saints
If we were to land setterfield, Cerra and scrimshaw this off-season that would be amazing! Won’t happen but they are the age bracket we should be targeting
Add in hanners and say Menzel for virtually nothing and we are back on track with a solid combo of youth and leaders
On top of that draft strongly with pick 3/4 and we’re on
Clearly I’m smoking the good stuff but it’s ok to dream is it not?!?!
