I can’t believe this guy never got dropped... his effort this year (as vice captain *cringe*) was insipid.

He showed so much potential but he was easily the most disappointing this year.. he’s more the cream it appears so maybe we can get a 3rd rounder for him..

Newnes playing every game despite his horrid form represents everything that was wrong with our season.

It also showed everything that richo was banging on about 'selection integrity ' and 'strong at the contest' was rubbish.

And it flowed from there...

Yep feel sorry for the blokes busting their arses off in the VFL and not getting a real go Freeman Clark and co while this useless selfish spud is getting a game no wonder the team doesn't develop if that's the standard you need to keep your spot shocking coaching something has to give

Why?

He averaged 65 in Supercoach which is dreadful for a midfielder. 85 would be a pass mark.

Yeah I've been really harsh on him this year and he deserved every bit of it.

Kicked a few more goals this year, playing a more attacking role.

In spite of this it was probably his worst year since joining the club. Deserved to be dropped on several occasions. Appears out the door between the ears.

Gifted games. Plain and simply gifted games on reputation and being coaches fkn pet. Four tackles in a month of football? For a high half fwd/wingman? Give me a f****** break.

Trade bait plain and simple. Trade to get whatever in the door.

30th of August. Repeat the above.
31st of August. Who's next?

Newnes is the onfield version of Richo. we're stuck with him regardless of form or ability.

Dumbass footballer....someone must have told him once he is a long kick....because
everytime he gets it....especially when he was at half-back he would just kick
the hide off the TW

The very reason he was tried in the forward 50 this year as he butchers
the ball like few others which we don't need from our half back line.
He also has the creativeness of a house brick !!

I preferred Richo's mentality from 2016. he said regardless of age if you're good enough you'll play. It's really frustrating he's moved away from that model and just plays favourites with the rest of the committee.

Get rid of him for a 3rd rounder who is willing to put in.. Phillips, Paton can play his role.. Rankine or Smith can too

Comparison Player 1 vs Player 2

Games 22 - 22
Ave Kicks 10 - 8
Ave HBs 6 - 11
Ave Disp 16 - 19
Ave Marks 5 - 2
Ave Tkls 2 - 3
Goals 18 - 13
Bhnds 17 - 6
Rating 66.3 - 66.4

Player 1 is Jack Newnes. The other is the All Australian forward pocket.

Not sure if that says more about Jack, or the AA selectors?

Where are you looking at for the AA forward pocket?

The selected forward pockets are Breust - 53 goals & Gunston - 48 goals

Newnes has 50 career goals from 135 games.

Apologies, he's on the bench. Shane Edwards.

Or we can take the less vicious and more philosophical approach ....

1. Newnes played forward and still avergaged a respectable 16 possessions and almost a goal a game.
2. He sacrificed his usual half back flank to allow McKenzie and Webster to settle in there (he was never going to replace Webster, anyway).
3. Weller wasn't exactly setting the world on fire on the half forward flank - so Newnes was more or less his direct replacement - as a like-for like. Richo had to try something new - we
weren't kicking many goals due to our many injuries in the forward line.

Verdict ...
Bold move forward - and not a complete failure.

Edwards is on the bench therefore in the team and a good comparison of stats beno . I think Edwards might have him on assists, make of that what you may. A better comparison would have been with Gresham who kicked 35 goals. I am a bit perplexed about that decision as well by the AA selectors.

I reckon consistency is a big factor in AA selections as well. Too many Saint players went missing in too many games this season, and none really had solid consistent seasons, and that's one of the reasons we didn't do so well.

Let's be honest, the All Australian selection process is a joke, why would you pick a side with a second ruckmen on the bench and a small forward that doesn't kick goals?

Surprised they didn't sneak Cyril and the bont into the side.
