Re: Lonie.
Have a few position wise like Lonie, if he goes well today against the Roos that would be a good finish to the year and possibly get a 1 year contract, if not trade him for someone else.

Re: Lonie.
We have a few options in his position yes, but why not trade them and keep the guy who has finally got confidence, playing well and kicking goals.

Re: Lonie.
They are long, Gresham, Billings,Coffield/Clark maybe Acres, Weller/Armitage who are both at the end and may be delisted so you have to work out who to trade out of first 6 and keep Lonie

Re: Lonie.
So Lonie is competing for a spot with Acres, Coffield, Clark & Billings? Why not throw in Paddy, Bruce, Marshall & Membrey.
It looks like all we draft are half backs and small forwards.
Small forwards are Gresham(expect more midfield time), Long & Lonie and all three are in best 22 at the moment.
Weller delist or trade, Armo retire (by club), Acres tall mid, Coffield & Clark half back/ mid,

Have to say... I really like the kid.
He is hard at it and chases like nobody’s business. Tries to make things happen too.
I would keep him

Back to his old self today. Does chase but can't stick a tackle to save himself. Jury still out.

Re: Lonie.
Was good again tonight even after being clocked into next week by Daw.
What has impressed me in the last few weeks is his improved defensive pressure (he was always manic, but used to regularly get flung off during a tackle), and the fact he’s actually slotting set shots.
I’d keep him. He loves the club, and I think he will continue to improve and be more reliable. But if he’s trade bait he’s worth more than I thought 6 months ago.

No he is not competing for a spot with the talls not sure why you put them in the post, I gave a list of players he is competing with for a spot, so which one are you going to trade out if keeping Lonie. We already know that Armo and weller may be finished? Acres has not been playing midfield, Billings has been drifting forward and the 2 young recruits wont get a midfield role just yet, they have only played a few games so they will be bought onwards in their development by playing small forwards which is a bit easier. They are not going to take Geary and Websters spots in the backline either. Not convinced about Long if he is playing forward he does need to hit the scoreboard.

Re: Lonie.
Could be right there, I thought he might be ok but certainly not showing it on the field. Only played 13 games so he needs another year at least

Re: Lonie.
Id take Long over Lonie. Lonie has had more years with us than Long so you would expect him to be better, a lot better and he isn't. He played ok in the last few games but not for most of the season before that. If we trade him or de-list him it will give a really good indication of what the rest of comp think of him and I doubt it will be much. In saying that he is not alone in players that I think should go but we can't cull them all as we wouldn't have a full team. For this reason he may get a one year extension and that should be it

Re: Lonie.
I don’t know that this needs to be a Lonie vs Long thing
You’ve got Lonie, Long and Gresh currently competing for a FP role...
Surely you’d be tempted to play one of them up the ground for patches of time.
We keep talking about our poor ability moving the ball out of the backline... wasn’t Long a HBF for a period of time? Seems like he could be a fit there for patches of time...
Goodness knows we haven’t had a good quarterback since Goddard left or perhaps even Aussie Jones who was more damaging but not as good a defender

Re: Lonie.
Posters have been screaming out that we have enough half backs....not sure why that is. Most clubs spring their attack from the half back line. Just cant see Long doing that though and those positions are filled at this stage anyway. Cant see him in the midfield either at this stage. He has to force his way into a FP role
