Was this in the media Saintbob?
Was it a quote from an official or media speculation?

I’m ok with this
Get it done
4-5 yrs off we need a war chest of elite talent and Ross/Steven solid A and B+ grade citizens don’t get you there
Could we get Walsh and Rankine?

Lions or Gold Coast?
Lions don’t have 2 first rounders yet, do they?

Yep, Jack will be done before we play finals again or will be done before we threaten top 4.
If there was a first round pick on offer it’s worth consideration. Jack is not quite the player he was 2 years ago and has lifted a very heavy load in his career at saints as has Armo.
Seb is a bit younger, and at his peak now.

Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water.
The list has its problems, sure, but of greater concern to me is the way it is being developed and deployed. Get that right and the results will follow.

Keep Jack at all costs - why do you think he's tagged most weeks.
He's our only ball carrier with pace
Ross is expendable - we have many of his type that very few of their possessions finish with a score

It’s quite sad isn’t it. IMO Armitage should be a 2 time premiership winner with the Saints and Steven should have played in the 2010 flagJoffa Burns wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 11:07amYep, Jack will be done before we play finals again or will be done before we threaten top 4.

I know you had fun getting rid of Gibbs to Adelaide and giving Carlton its worst season since 1901, but we at the saints are too smart for that!

Surprised that Jack Steven's form has not been all that flash at Etihad especially at his home ground. Maybe getting tagged but has to still get his 20 good possessions and a goal. Will get a good idea of that by how he goes against the roos today and their best tagger is out.

Pitty we aren’t dumb like Hawthorn who paid overs for JOM, gave up a first rounder for Tom Mitchell and reluctantly swooped on McEvoy when he was just entering his prime while we traded in Longer.
They were also dumb when the pensioned off 3 club legends to regenerate their list.
How is that working out for them now?
BTW, I get the irony of the Steven/ McEVOY reference, but we need to act as more of the same is getting us nowhere.

Re: The Lions want to talk to the Saints about the availability of .......
If we're going to trade into the draft, it should be into the top twenty. Don't care how good the draft is, anything beyond 20 is always far more speculative.
To do that, we're going to have to give up a good player, no pain no gain.

Tom was an "unders" deal, at the time of the trade. And a real steel now.
Pick 14 and a swap of later picks.
JOM was "overs" due the deal with us to get the pick they needed, and is probably still overs. BUT they got the type of player that they needed.
Where would the Hawks be without these two? Probably not playing finals.
And Big Ben. Still probably a fair deal for both parties. BUT gain the Hawks were happy as they gained what they needed for team balance.
On the Saints side our recruiters are way too obsessed with wanting to "win" trades, look for sliders, want to fill all positions rather than the ones that count most = class in the midfield which is what the Hawks realised and went after.
Big Ben was a good pick up by them as they were in the window. TOM and JOM were key planks to rebuilding.
Lethlean is holding the recruiting reigns now, and history does not seem to be have been taken not of as if you believe the rumours our main two targets at present is a bog average ruckman and a once good, but cooked slow and old mid when we already a bunch of slow mids.
The Saints are not in the window, hell we cannot even see the house yet, and yet supposedly our two main targets smack of top-up thinking!
Smells of panic and wanting to be seen to be doing something.

Re: The Lions want to talk to the Saints about the availability of .......
My concern also. We already excel in the areas of bog average ruckmen and slow, “strong at the contest” mids.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 4:07pm if you believe the rumours our main two targets at present is a bog average ruckman and a once good, but cooked slow and old mid when we already a bunch of slow mids.
That can be fixed, even with the current list.
Marshall, for example, looks an extremely likely ruckman and Pierce, too, and personally I haven’t given up on Hickey.
You want quicker, more creative mids? Gresham? Clark? Acres?
Look the list has its problems, but my much greater concern, as I’ve said elsewhere, is that we get the best out of the talent at our disposal.
I don’t think we do. Hopefully the new coaching blood will force Richo to think a bit differently about problems that have been apparent for years ... that he stlll tackles with the same tired tried and failed methods.
We’d want to start next season off well, I tell you.
