Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
For me I feel he would better off going somewhere like the Swans where he can develop his forceful finger pointing and angry look as a trainee coach.
I get the feeling he would be so different to the rest of the team that it would undermine our development

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
Love the romance of it - I'd have him on the list, even if he doesn't play too often, as a transition into a coaching role. Would be great to have one of the 09-10 fellas in as an assistant.
BUT - he probably wouldn't handle not playing every week very well!

I chuckled
I was dead against it a couple of months ago, but now I can see the benefits.

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
Exactly, my point. Any interview would be asking, “How are you with playing at Sandy most weeks?”
I think if St Kilda had a distinct reserves team, then the development role might suit, but having said that, I can’t lremember many players that were really doing that. Was there a Stevens for us in the 1980s? Mick Dwyer in the early 90s?
Shame Wakelin was excellent for Collingwood as a backup backman who would play week after week for Williamstown and always be ready, so that when they lost Clements and Presti, they could call him up and he’d perform well. Russell Morris, on the other hand, the moment he was up to knowing reserves football was upon him, was out the door! Thank you very much!Goddard?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

He should be the no 1 priority to bring back as a playing back man as an on field coach for that rabble of a leadership group.

As long as Richo has ZERO input in any player decisions given he is an interim coach - either to be sacked this year or next.

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
Not sure that's right stinger. Pelchen wanted to re-balance the list. We could've paid Goddard the money he was after but the decision was made to get rid of him and take the compo pick. Pelchen then turned the compo into Tom Lee and Nathan Wright (or Spencer White - it barely matters).saynta wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 3:26pmNot worth the risk.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 3:16pm Possibly still has much to learn about leadership. If he was bought to the club for his leadership qualities then he might not earn respect if the players don't respect him in that regard. Could destsbilise.
Insulting to Joey if not Roo.
The Dons don't get rid of good players.
The prick deserted us when we really needed him and went chasing premierships.
Shame, didn't pan out to well for him. So suck s*** BJ.
Remember BJ's reaction after his first game against us (after Fisher didn't shake his hand)? That wasn't the reaction of a mercenary.

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
I think the Saints should get Monica Lewinsky to interview past Sainter Clinton (Jones);
ask him for his memories of the "old" BJ, and whether the new BJ would be hard to swallow,
or leave a bad taste in the mouth
(the Millenials won't understand this )

A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
No thanks! This whole romance of reuniting with an old is something we can't afford to get sucked into. The fact is this is merely a band aid solution. He'll be 34 years old next year and his body will struggle. Also, we don't need traffic cops, we need real leaders.

When the message came through this morning - i just knew there would be a thread wanting him back
NO
oh dear (insert deity here) NO
If the club brings in BJGFIGJAM list clogger - we have lost the plot
If he wants to play next year - give him a granny flat out the back of RL's place and let the Freo salary cap take the hit

How do you develop young guns though, without good senior players around them? The Fireman wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 5:36pm the injectors don't want him then why should we take him.

What a rubbish post... Look at what he's done for Essendon since he's been there - he was their captain for a year and has been more of a leader than Watson ever was! He was immense as a Sainter and I reckon the majority of people would disagree with you that he lacked leadership when he played with us.

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
they have the opportunity to step up and become leaders themselves...don't need or want discards..we need to build from the bottom up.we are rock bottom ..get rid of the rubbish, get some decent coaches, selectors and people that are able to improve the stocks we have rather than have them go backwards. Concentrate on that more than worry about bringing has beens into the team. Maybe kicking coach? that would be it.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 5:44pmHow do you develop young guns though, without good senior players around them? The Fireman wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 5:36pm the injectors don't want him then why should we take him.

He is done!
And his finger pointing is worse than ever.
Not as a player at least.
He needs to realise that it's over, the gravy train is picking up new passengers.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Towards the end of his time with us Goddard was not playing anywhere near his best especially in his last season.skeptic wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 4:40pmFar too much common sense in this post for my liking...suss wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 4:24pmNot sure that's right stinger. Rice and Austin don’t need leaders/ on-field defensive generals - from what I saw against the Hawks, they have self-belief and are made of the right stuff. More power to them.

It would be great for merchandise if he retires on 333, was always a favourite of mine but I think his time is up.
Maybe bring him in as an assistant, he’d certainly add the passion that we’ve been lacking
