Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
Yes, give him a one year deal plus a further option of another 1 subject to performance.
Lay the ground rules down of what we want and expect.
To pass up on this in our current state would be just absolute lunacy.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Absolutely.
One year, second based on performance.
Absolutely.
Without a doubt in my mind I would be making it a priority to get him onboard.

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
It would be a new role for him and I think if he came with a different attitude there would be less fingerpointing and less angst between him and his team mates. At Essendon they were in the hunt for finals so he was brutal and it was all about winningrodgerfox wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 1:47pms*** man, I wish someone on our team would do some serious finger pointing out on the ground for once!IluvHarvey wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 1:26pm No thanks.
He is done!
And his finger pointing is worse than ever.
Not as a player at least.
Most of our guys desperately need it.
His goal should not be to make finals ( although that would be nice ) but rather to educate and provide instruction and provide a legacy for his beloved Saints who he played for in Grand Finals
Provided that he passes a thorough medical ( remeber the bone bruising injury recently ) I reckon we offer him a contract

McVeigh would be good for us.stonecold wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 1:59pmBJ is one of the most selfish people I have ever met, if he had leadership of any sort, Essendon would keep him!!!!!
To put him in the same bracket as Hodge is a massive insult to Hodge!!!!!
St.Kilda don't need Goddard, would prefer McVeigh!!!!!
Don't be so desperate people!!!!!
Pass on BJ.

To say that he has no leadership skills when he was the captain of the most successful club in the AFL is a bit of a stretch.
Are we a becoming a destination club for Sydney Swans players?

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
Emotional reasoning for sure (Rooney-Everton) , but emotional reasoning is important for passion etc., - that’s my rationalization lol, even so, I heard Carey say he is a sweeper at best nowadays. Would he be more value than Armitage or Gilbo -and are they even considered for 2019- and would he bust his gut at Sandy?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
Everyone, including the boot studder has identified the void in on field leadership since retirements last year. Everyone has identified skill level, particularly goal kicking, as a problem. He brings both these in spades. Will easily be best 22 and will enhance the development of the kids ( development being another point of pain). Has a good footy brain and could transition into coaching thre following year.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 2:20pm Please no. He isn't that good anymore hence bombers saying goodbye. Yes we are bereft of onfield leadership.
But don't bring back BJ.
People forget we didn't trade him out like Dal or Big Boy.
He walked out on us in search of personal glory.
Not welcome.

Agree. 34 in May next year. Looks done. Rice, White - play them rather than going back to a one year option at best.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 2:20pm Please no. Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
To use a well worn phrase, "he lost the playing group", well that is my guess at what happened at the Bombers.
Could he be destabilising to the current group. There is one thing for certain, there were no question marks over Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis when they were recruited for leadership roles.

Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
At the time St Kilda was trying to escape salary cap issues. We received pick 12 in compensation which in turn we used for Tom Lee. It was seen at the time as a win for St Kilda.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 2:34pm Yes we are bereft of onfield leadership.

There were also a few senior players who had an issue with our coach at the time.
You can read Nick Riewoldts autobiography to find out how close he was to leaving us at the exact same time.

Mmnn..how would he work with Jake Carlisle, say? Make Jake a better player or cause friction? (Not that the world revolves around Jake)

I reckon Riewoldt and Montagna would be furious with the club if we went down this path considering both wanted to play on and honestly I wouldn’t blame them.st.byron wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 2:36pmAgree. 34 in May next year. Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
I really don't think McVeigh will even throw his hand up as an option...hard to be an onfield leader when you're never fit enough to play. I'm buying the Swans line that he'll retire end of season, as he himself has claimed.
In comparison, BJ...did he miss a game this year? Not real thrilled with his emotional style, but he certainly holds those around him accountable (but possibly not himself?)...he can do the finger pointing for Geary, who just seems to shrug his shoulders or look around disgusted when his team mates leave 100m of space for opposition forwards to lead into.
IMO, in addition to stars Hurley and Hooker, Essendon's young back line is far more experienced and organised than ours (and features 2 recent top 10 draft picks), Goddard is likely surplus to requirement. Who have we got in comparison other than Robbo? Rice? Good. Savage? Bad. White? Who knows.

First I've heard about it too...Roo looked like he couldn't wait to get off the ground towards the end of last year, both he and Monty with media careers ahead of them.CURLY wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 2:56pmDid they though? Re: BJ Goddard not offered new contract by injectors
Possibly still has much to learn about leadership. Has designs on coaching so probably best suited to go to a club with a strong culture especially one that can develop leadership. Our club is not that atm.
If he was bought to the club for his leadership qualities then he might not earn respect if the players don't respect him in that regard. Could destsbilise.

It’s hard to see a downside given he comes so cheap.
GIve him a one year deal, try to keep him on as some type of skills coach. The guy can certainly kick.

The script for his movie will have to be re written.
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Insulting to Joey if not Roo.
The Dons don't get rid of good players.
The prick deserted us when we really needed him and went chasing premierships.
Shame, didn't pan out to well for him. So suck s*** BJ.
