I agree, the top 6 or so in the draft are apparently likely guns, so we should get one of them. We need a bit more senior player input but not for our first pick. Next years second or other options that may arise.

Re: Our 1st round pick! For Hannebery ?
The Swines are kidding themselves if they think Hannebery is worth a 1st round pick, 2nd round at best.
They’ve got him on ridiculous coin and can’t afford to pay it, so we’ll need to hold firm if we really want him and they’ll have to fold.
Personally I’m not keen, especially when other clubs are trying to lure Dylan Shiel.

"The recruitment of Hannebery, who turns 28 before next season, faces possible resistance from the St Kilda’s leadership group, led by captain Jarryn Geary.
It is understood they want to talk about the influence Hannebery — or any other prospective target — might have on St Kilda’s list."
What were others reactions to reading this?
I couldn't quite believe it and if it is true, the leadership group should sack themselves. They can't even perform on the park atm what gives them the right to think they can dictate recruitment as well?
Hannebery, despite what he might seem - is a phenomenal trainer and he performances are nearly unparalleled. Quickest swan to 200 games? Not by accident.
He'd take a first rounders plus change. Hopefully next years though. BUT I really think we need to pay (via picks) to trade someone in to get the ball rolling... yes it is a hit then there are FAs out there but clearly NONE want to come yet. Unfortunately we might have to take a hit to start attracting them in for free!

Of course if we hadn't traded away our 2018 second round draft pick last year the deal would be much simpler.

Hannebery comes with a broken body and (from what I've heard) a coke habit. If we give up our first round pick for him, I'll be contemplating taking a hiatus from Saints Footy. I'm just worried it will take too much of a toll on my health.

Of course that’s the issue but unless he’s sitting on 2 strikes then back your club, systems and leadership to deal with matters. I just don’t want them to offer 5 years - match the remaining contract length and up the money to get it done. (front end it if you want - we can’t be paying too many at present)
Of that’s right ... St K & leadership.

Sydney is more important to the sustainability and growth of the AFL revenue stream than St Kilda.
Lethlean worked at the AFL and took a fall, but he still has serious ambitions.
Cui bono.
Ok, it’s all circumstancial evidence but there is motive, means and opportunity. Every where you look there are conflicts of interest in this corrupt little cottage industry.
Connect the dots folks. This is a racket and our club is being used like a shell company for the benefit of much bigger fish. St Kilda are expendable.

Would be a better use of pick No 4 or 5 than using pick No1 on Paddy McCartin.

Re: Our 1st round pick! For Hannebery ?
Positive change needs to start from somewhere. Fans can be skeptical which is fair enough as we are built of different fibre, but there is no need to just blatantly be negative and rubbish any move the club makes to try get better. That happens all too often in this den of negativity.SydneySainter wrote: ↑Tue 14 Aug 2018 3:49pmYeah, because the rose-tinted glasses brigade has more than had their optimism vindicated this year...parkeysainter wrote: ↑Tue 14 Aug 2018 2:45pm God some people on here are just balls of enthusiasm and positivity all year around. Yes, people are jumping at shadows, but the club is also in a desperate position, so I wouldn’t put it past them to pay overs for Hanners and Menzel, just to sell some hope, prove their being aggressive and keep their jobs by playing finals next year.
To say the club is poorly run is an understatement and I think people’s skepticism is perfectly warranted.

He was a party boy with Buddy F apparantly, but that has stopped. If his body is broken, then why he did 26 touches in his first game back after so many out? Jimmy, my barber, ( Just cuts for Men, in Oakleigh Central - CA-CHING! ) said to me today: “Dave, are youse all mad down there? this guy’s a party boy”
THAT just about does it for me! Come to think of it..... maybe Jimmy my barber ( Just Cuts For Men, Oakleigh Central) should join the recruitment team?

Recruiting "Hanners" is like a credit bust out.
Bust-out fraud, also known as sleeper fraud, is primarily a first-party fraud scheme. It occurs when a consumer applies for and uses credit under his or her own name to make transactions.

Re: Our 1st round pick! For Hannebery ?
Next year's first rounder could be anything from pick 1 to pick 10. No way in hell should we be trading that for Hannebery. I would prefer to trade a bunch of our GOPs for second/third/fourth rounders and package them up to a team needing points for academy selections for a higher pick and use that pick rather than blowing our chance at getting one of the best few kids in the country.Spinner wrote: ↑Tue 14 Aug 2018 8:31pm He'd take a first rounders plus change. Imagine if we traded our first round pick next year for Hannebery and he plays 10 injury affected games as a 28 year old.
Dunstan, Newnes, Weller and Longer could fetch us a few picks in the top 40 and if we package those picks up along with salary cap relief they could land us one decent player in return. I would much prefer taking that method than getting another B grader with pick 12 rather than getting a superstar with a top 4 pick

That's fine but end of the day all those picks for those GOPs need to happen and then all those picks together need to somehow land a top decent pick... it's much more an unlikely scenario than discussion trading what you actually have right now.
I could come up with another 100 scenarios similar to yours that are more attractive but like yours very unlikely to all eventuate. It's hard enough to get one player traded let alone 4 you've mentioned and then not be left with 4 s*** picks cos no other club wants to give up something decent for them...

It should be some legitimate sources to write online stating that a player has a coke habit. Even still it's poor form.

"Widely discussed"? - well that certainly nails your point. As Spinner states, poor form to raise those issues without legitimate sources. I prefer to concentrate on the things we know, his age, the fact he has had some injuries lately, his experience, etc. Based on that I think he is well worth looking at, but not for first round draft pick.
