This Admin, Management and Coach are Destroying St.Kilda F.C.

Post: # 1746607Post kaos theory »

We have had terrible coaches and administration in the past, BUT in old days we came from a low base: Clubs were not run like a professional organisation in general, and we were one of the worst at it.

We gradually got better at it. We still had issues, but from the late 80s we gradually built a better culture. We had our most successful 20year period between 1990 and 2010 - a number of final series, and 3 gfs.

So by the time this admin and current coach took control, there was a foundation, a culture of hard work, and a drive to succeed and get that elusive 2nd flag.

In the last 5 yrs, all that good foundation and hard work has been eroded away by a pack on incompetent imbeciles!

Guided by a pathetic coach, players are now comfortable with average effort and not working hard. You only have to read the comments by Rooey about the frustrations he had and what he sees now.

Guided by idiot coach and similarly incompetent support coaches, the players are regressing in ability. Most of the players on our list showed great potential at times, but the idiots at our club made sure that inherent talent was eradicated!

The Admin and Management has focused on producing the soy-decafe latte saints. They seem proud of it! We have no hardness and killer instinct, we make sure we recruit 'nice' players, by ensuring we run them through a bogus psychology test before we pick them. Hence, we pass on Petraca! We also wouldn't pick Dustin Martin or even Plugger Lockett if we were starting now!

Off field, our management spends its time organising gender neutral toilets, because gender fluidity is an important topic and needs our focus!!

And to show everything is going great, we extend the coach for another 2 years!!

Next year we will have 30k members if lucky, and decline into oblivion.

The 80s were a bad period, but we had no help, no equalisation and no effective draft system, and even though there was little talent, the players we had played hard.

But in today's world, even with all the advantages, and handed a great foundation from the players of the 2000s era, somehow this admin, management and coach are managing to destroy st.kilda FC.

They all need to go, as soon as the Home & Away games are over!

Agreed!

You are only 3/4 right as you need to add the majority of playing list as well

In a close competition, a team only needs to be 1%-2% off its best and it could find itself at or near the bottom of the ladder.
We’ve had a lot of disruptions with injuries this year, and again during the game this week.
We also haven’t recruited what we need - we have too many inside midfielders - the Bulldogs killed us with outside run.

It doesn’t matter who is administering and coaching us ...where we’re at is a result of injuries - which can’t be helped - and bad recruiting, where our recruiters stuffed up.

You my friend have no idea.

If you think a club can be successful with a bad admin and coaches you are more deluded than an ice Addict.

Did we have a bad administration and bad coach last year?
Anyway ...someone needs to be kicked up the pants for poor recruiting decisions.

We were mediocre lat year - as our recruiters have given us a mediocre side that’s top heavy with average inside midfielders.

Added to our mediocrity, we also had a lot of injuries this year.

Bruce, Long, McCartin, Roberton, Webster at various stages, Carlisle at various stages - and now Savage, etc..

Those directing this club have made a meal of it. There should be a challenge at the top- I am looking at the club I have have followed for decades, go down the gurgler over the last 5 years.

We need to start nailing our recruiting - recruit according to our team’s needs and to a plan - with team balance and skill in mind.
If your team needs outside midfielders - and is screaming out for them, you don’t recruit dour inside midfielders instead.

If we recruit right, everything else will fall into place - as long as our bad run with injuries stops.

Our worst recruit was Richo. The 4 sacked assistants including Trout follow very close behind.

I met Gilbee once - very unimpressive - glad he got eh arse.

Oh sorry, did you mean the players???!!

This is delusional nonsense.

We have recruited players that showed a lot of promise. But they have stagnated because we now have a poor development culture, poor coach and terrible management and administration.

Recuiting is important, but its just the first step. Most of the work comes when the player gets to the club and how the player is developed, the culture, the club standards and the coaching and game style that enable the players to grow and excel.

I can't see how any player could thrive with current coaching philosophy and game plan.

Put it this way ....

Is there a game plan that prevents a team from having a bad run with injuries and ensures balanced and smart recruiting?

We’ve probably done as well as could be reasonably expected - in terms of W/L - under the circumstances?

Yes, any great recruiting will be all for naught if the coaching, gameplan and structures are not up to snuff.

All clubs have injuries.
If you look at the AFL injury lists and the games missed through injury ladder - we are middling.
There are teams worse off than us. Collingwood and the Dogs for example.

Our last two Presidents have been nice. Wasteaway and now "Winter is Coming" Summers. As they say, nice guys finish last.

Can we go back to someone who is focused on success, rather than worrying about if someone has had an extra glass of red.

This is utter garbage , takes absolutely no account of dismal development over past 5 years and still does nothing to address the pathetic structure and ball movement into forward 50
The fact you point to a decent performance last year only weakens your whole “it’s all bad recruitment” theory
Let’s stop making excuses - there are multiple things wrong with our club right , we’ve sacked head of recruitment it’s time coaches follow suit plus administrators we are in free fall.

injuries to blame? we could use that if we saw a downturn in performance that coincided with our injuries. but we stunk from preseason. if anything our injuries have been a blessing, allowing more players a game that they otherwise wouldn't have been given from our conservative coach. the only downside is that they've been thrown into a badly coached team with very low moral. monkey see, monkey do.

Have to agree with Teflon. Samoht, I appreciate your posts, but Teflon is right. The wheels fell off after the Richmond game last year. We played great footy then....the same group we have now. So they are very capable. It’s the coaching and leadership that is missing.... They’re playing like a bunch of men who are leaderless. Scapegoating a few mid level assistants will solve nothing when the body is rotting from the apex of the triangle.

You missed the point, Teflon.
This year, we’ve also had a lot of injuries - including to players who are important to our structure.
We are logically not going to finish as high as we did last year?
...Did we have a much better coach last year?

It means you’re not taking into account our injuries - this is the critical factor, obviously - and the reason we’ve slumped from a mediocre/ average team to a bottom of the rung team.

We can’t expect things to stay the same, or improve, given our injuries. That would be illogical.
It’s not only the injuries, it’s the disruption to our team - when you don’t have a settled lineup.

No point missed - we were pantsed by a depleted Bulldogs last night badly !
We are kidding ourselves blaming injuries
Many said we had a soft draw last year - I think we are now seeing that plus we are bereft of leadership
When game in balance last night a “developed” Bontempelli stood up......Jack Billings couldn’t nurse a simple shot from 30 through.... we are a mess
Where actually at the ground last night??!!
I was, the movement of the ball into fwd 50 was nothing short of disgraceful
