Interestingly, at the end of 2014 we were back slapping each other down at Moorabbin for our awesome list management.

Finnis was all over Bains and Elshaugh.

In 2015, Bains promoted Trout from recruiter to list manager.

2 years later, our list management is to blame for our suckiness.

Given we recruited Coffield, Clark, Long and Battle since then - we have to assume the bad list management Lethlean has identified happened when Bains was list manager?


It's a massive whack to Bains, who rode his glowing reputation into a top role at the Dogs, but it's also a massive whack to Finnis and his judgement really.

Firstly, Lethlean surely won't stay in his current role for much longer will he? COO of the AFL to footy manager at a small club is a huge fall from grace.

But secondly, the List Manager isn't the Head of Recruiting. The two roles are, and as far as I'm aware always have been separate. And the Head of Recruiting always reports in to the List Manager. So nothing new there is there?


The intriguing part, is why 'list management' rather than recruiting was targeted as the problem?

We haven't lost any players, and don't have salary cap issues?

Maybe the age demographic of the List that I've been crapping on about for a while has been identified as the problem?

Well we were left with a huge leadership vacuum upon the retirements of Riewoldt, Montagna & Dempster. That's down to List management.

They are currently sacking coaches...at least 2. So it will be interesting to see how they move players on then because they are responsible. Who is accountable for the current state of the list then?

Lets give Gallagher a chance. He has played bucketloads of high level footy at both Norwood and Adelaide. He obviously has alot of high level business sense too. Combine the two and its the perfect background for a list manager. Lethlean has made a good decision here.
