Re: New List Manager
Well it’s an interesting choice, hope he can do a good job.
For what it’s worth, Dodoro over at Essendon never played AFL level footy, so it’s certainly not a prereq of the job.

How long before this poor b#gger begins to get blamed for everything bar the cat next door having kittens? The usual suspects will be drooling at the mouth in anticipation.

Re: New List Manager
Never heard of him.
He’s played senior footy for the Crows according to the article.
It’s a bit of a punt because he has been outside the AFL system for a while, which is concerning. It means we are unable to attract talent within the AFL system.
He comes from the FIRE sector and Macquarie Bank none the less, so he must be really switched on and a good get.
Organisational structure is a bit confusing. I assume Libba reports to him.
This smells of cronyism.
I don’t like this one bit.

Re: New List Manager
As a Norwood supporter in the SANFL I can tell you this is a quality appointment. Fantastic club man who knows footy inside out.
Hope he embraces the Saints like his original club.

Re: New List Manager
Thats a really big appointment for someone with no experience in the list management department of an AFL club. Jamie Cox Mk2?
Must be a smart guy and hope for the best
Would have preferred someone with more experience in the area.

Good appointment by Lethers.
I faintly remember this bloke playing for the Crows. He apparently knows his s***.

Re: New List Manager
Sounds like a good appointment to me. He's both a senior manager for a bank and has a good background in footy.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Agree, Gallagher name at Norwood carries a lot of weight for 3 generations. Hopefully a great appointment.Saintlester wrote: ↑Wed 01 Aug 2018 8:46pm As a Norwood supporter in the SANFL I can tell you this is a quality appointment. Fantastic club man who knows footy inside out.

Re: New List Manager
Ok. Let me the one that is underwhelmed.
Looks good in terms of managing contracts, and yes leveraging commercial deals may assist in landing or retaining very good players etc.....but I see bugga all in his background to suggest that our ability to identify better players will be in any way enhanced. Having kicked a footy himself in the past means squat all in terms of ability to identify talent. Sure has done enough to be better than you or me. But will he make us better than the best are in recruiting, because that he is competing with rather than us numpties.
Furthemore while that article is brief it kind of infers that they are happy with our current recruiting team. And I am 100% not!
Looks like Saintslotto will remain the status quo come draft time.
PS: Analytics can be good, but having been around the block a few times myself I can assure you that good analytics does not really assist the poor decision maker. It just justifies why that they thought they made the right decision.

Re: New List Manager
He doesn’t need to do much right for him to
Look good.
Maybe he can help negotiate lower interest rates on our current debt (I know that’s not his job but helps the club overall)

Re: New List Manager
Interest rates hmmm. Yeah why not!?
plus he could help with some data and research from Macquarie so Saints staff can trade the bank bill swap rates, bonds, the aussie dollar versus USD and a few inside tips on mergers and acquisitions

Re: New List Manager
Says to me we will be using analytics more and more in recruiting .
Analytics have a place however the thing they fail to do is measure the intangibles - desire/mongrel/ x factor/
All the things we seem to lack at various times

Re: New List Manager
Firstly, Lethlean surely won't stay in his current role for much longer will he? COO of the AFL to footy manager at a small club is a huge fall from grace.vacuous space wrote: ↑Wed 01 Aug 2018 10:46pm So Lethlean found a Mini-Me to sit between Lethlean and Liberatore in the organisational structure.
But secondly, the List Manager isn't the Head of Recruiting. The two roles are, and as far as I'm aware always have been separate. And the Head of Recruiting always reports in to the List Manager. So nothing new there is there?
The intriguing part, is why 'list management' rather than recruiting was targeted as the problem?
We haven't lost any players, and don't have salary cap issues?
Maybe the age demographic of the List that I've been crapping on about for a while has been identified as the problem?

Re: New List Manager
Maybe a struggling, 30 year old in Nathan brown being able to 'trigger' his own extension is viewed as a massive list management blunder.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Wed 01 Aug 2018 11:31pmFirstly, Lethlean surely won't stay in his current role for much longer will he? Re: New List Manager
At any rate, why build in a trigger clause for someone like that? Surely we would be better off to re-contract him on our terms, not through legal obligation.
