Exactly. A very crap thread. Seb Ross v Clint Jones...seriously.

All players are up and down each year. Even the elite, Dusty not so good this year, same with Bont, plenty of others from A graders to GOP are down a bit. Seb is OK, still well up in the B & F. Hopefully he will pick up again next year, along with a few others.
Weller, not so sure, think he reached his ceiling a couple of years ago.

Jones is a different player, different era, a class below Seb. Made the most of his ability though.

You're wrong mate. Apparantly all the guru's on here say its Richo's fault for Seb Ross not having as a good a year as last year. Forget Ross even admits its his fault his form has dipped this year.

Still averaging 28 touches a game this year. Good year still by Seb. 2nd in total disposals (only 3 behind J. Steven).

Seb will be top 5 in B and F.

Now, if he can learn to kick....

Must be one of those many players who get big stat numbers, but have little influence on the outcome. Disappointed with his year

Good points.

Being the best in the league and elite at nullyfying the very best elite midfielders in the leaugue, ranks slightly better imho, than just winning the B&F in an average to mediocre side...wouldn't you think? If Sebby strings together another 3-4 years like 2017 than he would rank higher, but this year he has not been anywhere near as good as last year.

The fact that Clint could also focus and slot through regular goals from set shots also highlights his mental toughness.

Too many softie mellenials and generation Y'ers have had it easy all their lives and don't know what real hardship and stress is. Once they're under pressure they tend to fold. Never had a decent spray from Richo or our other coaches ( or there's just not enough of it directed at the players and they can't or don't want to handle 360 feedback - as per Rooy's comments about the Saints players earlier this year).

I heard an interview on TripleM Melbourne with Sam Mitchell this afternoon and he told Bill Brownless and James Brayshaw that Clarko would regularly unleash on his senior players and he targeted Sam a fair bit. Sam reckons that he would usually lift when he copped it and it was a tactic that Clarko used especially to lift his leadership group, including Hodge and Lewis...

Sam was mainly being interviwed to promote his new book 'Relentless'. They brushed over the fact that he's leaving West Coast and just briefly touched on a few other things. Billy mumbled something strange which was kind of cryptic and Billy's way of probably putting out there something he knows which he probably can't reveal too much about...something of interest to us Saints supporters that's for sure (.ie. he just said these words seperately as the interview was winding up and didn't elaborate or explain what he meant by blurting out each word ). The two words were "Richo" and "St. Kilda". Given his links to Paddy maybe there's something in it

It's the curse of our leadership group! It's a poisened chalice at the moment! Everyone in it has either gone backwards or stagnated!

The Problem with Ross this year is not getting the ball, it is how he uses it. Has been an absolute butcher.

But he does go at 74% disposal efficiency which is quite good. Do we just notice his errors more because we look for them and expect it or because he gets the ball so much? Probably a bit of both, but he does need to improve his kicking around the ground. No doubt about that.

% disposal efficiency must be one of the most meaningless stats going around. Next you will be quoting it to support Geary being a good user of the ball....

I expect a player on the run, in the clear, to be able to hit up targets (and by that I mean to kick it to their team mates advantage) and neither can.

Stats are stats. Unless you watch and replay every single posession, they are what they are. They don't lie in some regards.

Geary and Ross do use the ball well at times, but of course they butcher it too at times. At least they get the bloody thing.

Clint Jones had a higher overall rating than Lance Franklin on AFL Live 2011

And also featured on the cover.

Shiitts me to tears when I see 2 or 3 switches in play and teams press up against us, then we are forced deep in our defensive zone. No wonder Ross gets it a lot. We haven't done anything with it and in some cases we've gone backwards.

Teams create zone defences and block most entries into the forward line by tagging or running with some of our better field kickers...you gettin' the picture

Plus, they also mainly get it in the backline and opposition teams allow it to happen. As long as the opposition defend the corridor and set up zones to prevent an easy entry i50 they are happy for guys like Geary and Seb Ross to get the footy in the backline. So many short kicks in the backline are pointless stats and create opportunities for opposition teams to push up and create more pressure on our defenders. Wish they'd clear the footy quicker and back in a player to contest one on one against an opponent. Hopefully you kick it slightly to your team mates advantage and hopefully it doesn't go out of bounds

Have you every wondered why every time we play Geary as the loose man and he racks up a lot of disposals, that the opposition coach does not make any moves against it?

No. It wouldn't matter who it was and most coaches don't care about a loose man. Plus how many times has he played as the loose man this year? Minutes and which games please?

Jones had one solid year as a tagger, which was 2009. After that, he lost his mojo and was frequently beaten.

Jones was a sheep dog but bloody fit and ran and hustled all day which Lyon loved.

I have a lot of time for Seb. Off his tucker this year and seems a bit mentally down/flat.

Put him in the right environment and he will flourish.

Seb definitely more talented.

I think he can be a gun but has gone backwards in the last 12 months.

Would you take pick 8 for Ross if the Bombers offered it?
In a heartbeat, I'd take that.

OF course he would. Our bottom 6 players in both those years were our Achilles' heal.

Seb is definitely not a bottom sixer,

not so sure about that 'bottom 6' - more a bottom 3. Our weakness was Ray, McQualter, and Clarke (got destroyed by Rooke in that final quarter).
This was our 2009 GF lineup. For mine I'd have Seb over any of them in that team, but not in place of Jones.

Seb averages 29 per game - Clint was a tagger and never got near that.
Silly Comparison,

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.
