I reckon we need to stop getting our hopes up that some free agent with loads of potential is going to choose us. We are merely a bargaining tool in their ability to jack up their price for their real destination or their current club. Without sounding too depressing what are we offering? Seriously.

We are an underperforming club, whose history of developing players is poor. Our facilities are only moderate when compared to the big interstate clubs and big Melbourne Clubs. We have a low supporter base so players know they won't be playing in front of big crowds.

Basically we have money to throw at players (which we don't want players who only want to come to our club for money) Apart from that we have precious little else. We need to be able to show these free agents that we are a club worth coming to. Coaching is a huge issue for many young players. And facilities. And excitement factor re crowds, promotion opportunities etc.

I’d bet we haven’t even spoken to Hannerberry or his manager but now we are a chance because of an article in the HS yesterday suggested we should target him.

The Dees are pretty confident they are getting Gaff. If you were him, and you had the choice between us and Melbourne on similar deals, it would be a no-brainer after this season.
