Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
It's difficult to rate players in different teams and also I think their roles are different. Seb is now seen as one of our best players by opposition teams ( mainly due to his form last year) as opposed to Clint who was seen as purely a bottom 6 player and Clint more often than not used to be a tagger. Seb on the other hand has been tagged throughout the last couple of years. Who would have ever thought of putting a tag on Clint?
Sebby had his best and most consistent year in 2017 in his career and was a worthy winner of the B&F but you have to take into account the context of a team that is struggling to make up the numbers. Seb is a prolific ball winner and so was Clint.
I'm not saying I'd choose Seb over Clint because I think the fact that Seb is seen as one of our best mids is more a result of poor recruiting development and list management at St Kilda rather than seeing Seb is A grade. Clint was an integral part of the Lyon game plan. There were so many A graders and All Australians in the teams that played in the Grand Finals in 09/10 that it was difficult for Clint to standout or get anywhere near a B&F award like Seb, but Jones was a tougher competitor imho. Mentally and physically tougher. I'd back Clint in a contest over Seb and I'd back Clint as the better endurance runner.

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
Clint would have been a gun if he was able to kick the ball on a flat trajectory instead of straight up.
I used to see him at the local shops all the time.
His girlfriend was hot , but clint was probably hotter .

I'll assume the OP is meant to be provocative and not taken seriously.
What I will say though about Seb is you put some more support around him and all of a sudden he doesn't become the oppos main player to work over.
Think of Seb in a top 4 team with a deep midfield and then ask yourself would you want to trade him like some have suggested on this board.

Omg! Put Ross into those 2009/10 era sides and I bet he would thrive! I know it’s been a long hard season but it appears this site has clearly lost the plot!

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
Clint was a very good and smart handballer, and his short kicking quite accurate though awkward looking. Longer kicks problematic.
For a few years he was the best there was in the AFL at his role. And as a tagger he always won a lot of his own ball.
His pace was very handy.

He can play, I've seen him dismantle Danger before.IluvHarvey wrote: ↑Tue 31 Jul 2018 7:31pm Omg! Put Ross into those 2009/10 era sides and I bet he would thrive! I know it’s been a long hard season but it appears this site has clearly lost the plot!
And yet this year, or at least in the last month or so he's just been not good, despite racking up possessions. I can't put my finger on it exactly. He just hasn't played anywhere near last year's B&F standard.
In fact, I would say if he didn't win the B&F last year he would probably be on the trading block for more posters on here.

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
I personally think Seb is being under rated here.
Put him in a better team and he looks much much better. He aint slow either his goal kicking and lack of x factor are the only real things that go against him.

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
Seb Ross is probably worth a decent 2nd round draft pick from Essendon
Clint Jones probably would have attracted a late 5th round draft pick from Freo

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
Seb Ross: AA squad and B and F winner and only 25.
Clint Jones: Mature aged durable tagger with an ordinary left foot.
End of story. Why are we even comparing the two? Seriously...

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
Clint was a vital component of the Lyin Lion era.
For a while there he was the best stopper in the AFL - shut down gun players week after week.
Cint was disciplined, fast, a relentless terrier, and he knew how to handle himself in traffic and with dwarfs.

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
s*** coaching has stymied Seb's development.
I think he can be a gun but has gone backwards in the last 12 months.
Would you take pick 8 for Ross if the Bombers offered it?

Line ball.
Seb has opened his butchers store now that his saviour Roo has left.
Seb needed Roo’s run along the wing to save his arse.

Re: Clint jones vs Seb Ross
The failure of more experienced guys like Ross, Newnes and Weller to take the next step(and in fact go backwards) is one of the reasons we have not done well this season. These are at least three of the players who should be really leading by example but are not.
