Why bother with recruiting staff then?Devilhead wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 9:27pmHow many times do supporters have to be told that nearly all clubs had Paddy at either 1 or 2 in that draftYorkeys wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 9:05pm Just use our draft picks wisely. In McGovern's draft we took Tom Curren and Warrick Andreoli before J. McGovern was taken. Lethlean is so right to have tapped Elshaugh. Look at the opportunity cost just in that episode and the use of Pick 1 on Paddy. Makes me weep - the shocking incompetence.
And for what it is worth 17 other clubs bypassed McGovern 6 or 7 times EACH
Save the money and just copy the consensus by using online phantom drafts.
How many times do people need to be told that our recruiters need to do BETTER than just copying phantom drafts and the consensus views.
Otherwise why bother paying recruiters at all?

Well literally it refers to the coach driver on a horse drawn carriage, but in parkeysainter terms what does box seat mean?
When it comes to McGovern he had no interest in coming to the saints, never visited our facility or met with our coach, but we were in the box seat
Sloan, we are certainties to get him because he barracked for the saints as a kid. Oh wait, he's not coming either.
Come on and parkey what is your latest whisper?
According to their supporters, over recent years North Melbourne have been in the box seat to snare every player available, yet have got none. All makes for interesting discussion, and you never know, we may get an A grader one year.
Keep them coming Parkey.
There a bevy of posters on here that just nitpick other posters (plus twist their words or put words in their mouth) and what they post and/or pick the s*** of anything and everything that is St Kilda on a daily and weekly basis. They never offer anything original or worth reading on here for the forum. They're pretty much just "losers" at the end of the day. Its actually very sad there are people out there like that. Of course, a stupid pic or gif will accompany their post usually which is the stuff of school children.

Except I am right.
If you have a fund manager who can't perform better than the index but still charges you fees.
Why pay the fees?
You get same returns from an index fund without the fees.
Same goes for recruiters.
If they can't beat the publicly available index.
Why pay them?

It's barely achieved 1 and most definitely not 2.
Until the AFL somehow re-jigs FA to ensure there's restrictions on who can move where (i.e. a FA agent can't move to a team that's finished higher than 5th in the previous season etc) - then the successful clubs will likely stay that way and the rest won't rise any time soon.
Free agency fine, but you can not move up the ladder, you can only go to a club lower down the ladder.
Ball and Lyon fell out. He became the scapegoat in Lyon's unabated desire to add outside speed to our squad (Lovett anyone?). For the record - it went like this. Ball was to be squeezed out of the midfield as he could no longer spread hard. Ball rightly wanted to play so, had to look elsewhere. Collingwood already owned pick 30 but offered pick 25 (which they were trying to get from North) and 62. Lyon (alone) vetoed this deal. Then the deal was revised to a straight pick 30 for Ball. Again - Lyon vetoed this. At the last minute - we also asked for Tyson Goldsack + pick 30. The Pies knocked that back and instead used their pick 30 to draft Ball.
So - in the end - Ball walked to Collingwood for free when it should have been done for pick 30 to us. Not a great pick but at least it wouldn't have meant losing a former captain for free to the filth. 12 months later Goldsack and Ball are Premiership teammates against us. Absolute farce and just another notch in Lyon's disastrous ego-fueled list management/non-development shambles he left us with.
The only thing that could possibly be considered 'wrong' in Ball's actions was to refuse to speak with any other club than Collingwood.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: Saints in box seat for McGovern
Where is the evidence for: "Ball was to be squeezed out of the midfield as he could no longer spread hard."? Yes, he had ongoing OP issues that the club had supported him through over a number of seasons, but he played 18 games in 2009 only missing rounds 16, 17 and 18. Riewoldt indicated in his book that he believes that Ball leaving and taking his knowledge of our game plan to Collingwood contributed to our defeat in 2010.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 3:22pmAce - I generally like reading your posts but this one is way off.ace wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 8:22pm(3) by the players association so that Luke Ball was able to pretend to a victim instead of a rat.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Mon 23 Jul 2018 5:18pm As an editorial aside - FA is a complete and utter crock. The only thing that could possibly be considered 'wrong' in Ball's actions was to refuse to speak with any other club than Collingwood.
Wikipedia says this:
Ross Lyon described the departure of Ball in early 2010:
"Look, Luke Ball in simple terms is this: Luke had a rich history with St Kilda, but the AFL is a professional sport and expectations are often set and not met by club or player. Clearly, along the line, there has been some expectations not met on both sides of the fence. Luke is a Collingwood player now and that's his future and it's not for me to talk about our expectations. During the year he got dropped, then he matched our expectations (and returned) and then obviously there was some expectations from Luke that we weren't meeting and he moved on. That's where that sits. That (the failed trade to Collingwood) was the decision we made at the time and we stand by that. Did we want nothing for him? No. Let's be clear on this, Luke wasn't traded or delisted. Luke walked out on St Kilda, of which he had a million dollar-plus contract on the table.[8] "
Of the departure, Ball stated that "I guess Collingwood's list and the fact they have been right up there for three or four years is attractive, plus a good blend of youth and experience. I have moved on from St Kilda with no bitterness or resentment. I had eight great years with the club. But after eight years I felt like I needed a fresh start and fresh opportunity. That's a pretty simple way to put it and maybe when the dust settles I'll be able to explain it a bit better.[9] "
Has Ball attempted to explain it since then?
I think many of us at the time felt that it was necessary to stand up to Collingwood's aggressive trading approach.

Plus its great having the moral high ground. It usually means you're a good person and not a negative sack like some people on here.

I start plenty of new threads which generate lots of posts and discussion amongst people here. Look through the forum. At least I do that instead of just nitpicking and trying to plaster someone on here that tries to start a thread or has an idea or a rumour.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 8:36pmWhen have you ever offered anything original?parkeysainter wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 2:21pm

Your quote above proves that Lyon was a genius not to trade Ball for a crap pick and instead do all he could to force him elsewhere than a direct competitor. He sweated all the way to pick 30, in the end he got through.
Short sighted and foolish is this post.

West Coast ended up with Kennedy as a result.
Collingwood had pick 14 but they used it to get Jolly.
They knew Connors could get Ball to come them and only them for next to nothing.
I have more respect for Judd than I will ever have for Ball.
