Just as likely to come out and pound us. We have very little tall talent left on the field.
No Roberton, Carlisle, Brown, Bruce, McCartin or Battle .
Their forwards and ruck will have a field day.
Hope to gawd, I'm wrong .
We really should pound Carlton.

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
Absolutely correct. Make no mistake - this week is Carltoon's 2018 GF. If Murphy plays - they will be up for a big one after sledge-gate last year (complete bollocks which Carltoon started yet our virtue-signaling, goodie two-shoes Admin apologised for). Regardless - if Carlisle plays (doubtful based on last night's vision on the news) then he'd want a doona around his ribs to protect what'll no doubt be coming.supersaints wrote: ↑Mon 09 Jul 2018 11:28pm I'm not so shure...
While I hope we flog them don't be surprised if they turn up for this match after all the media has savaged them... If they are tanking they can still afford to knock us off and stay on the bottom.
I'd like to see us go with youth and a bit more daring. AR may play it safe .. after all his job may be on the line if they flog us!!!
Kruezer killed us last year but a little class got us over the line.
Based on our completely unimaginative, non-integrity selection policy - I'm not banking this. Yes - Carltoon are horrid, but we're only marginally better.
Go you red, black & white warriors

I agree with that, I hear Goddard has gone alright at Sandy and we should have a look at him. While you appear to be somewhat in the know SC, it doesn’t mean that the selections made by the club are ‘right’, they are a decision made by the coaching staff for reasons that only they and possibly you know.stonecold wrote: ↑Tue 10 Jul 2018 11:41am

I personally don’t agree with them on Longer.
While I’m not in the inner sanctum I do my best to piece all the media and insider info together to try and understand the decisions made my the club.
From what I understand Longer is largely playing as a ruckman tagger. His main purpose is to nullify the opposition ruckman and impose himsef physically as much as possible, which he does. With barely any offensive contribution.
Long term I can’t see Longer being any better than he is atm, which isn’t very good. He’d be in the bottom 4 of AFL 1st rucks.
With Hickey I see far more up side. He’s shown that he can influence a game both ways. Has one bad game and is dropped. Play well from an outsider pov and doesn’t get a recall despite Longer stinking it up from an outsider pov.
I’d love to know the kpi’s that our selection panel are working off.

I think they are trying, just don't see a lot of confidence in each other. They do lack class no doubt.
I think there coach might be struggling to inspire them.

A few changes for me
Carlisle in For Joyce if fit otherwise Goddard
Hickey over Longer now and forever. Hickey is S#@t but compared to Longer he is gold
Marshall for McCartin because we need a tall
Acres to come in but he could replace so many in the middle. Hunter may be feeling the tired especially after a 6 day turn around but he could just as easily replace Newnes or Dunstan.
That is 4 changes which is usually the max so no room for Freeza to debut.

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
I think Acres for Weller. Blake can kick a goal, and presumably will struggle to play a full game in midfield after his long layoff, even with rotations. So I think he comes in for Weller or Wright. Harsh to drop Wright after one game, so Weller.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Tue 10 Jul 2018 2:28pm A few changes for me

I would love to see Freezer debut, but suspect he may be next cab off the rank. Newnes survives because again we need someone who can kick goals.
The other 3 you nominate I think are spot on. I see that Stonecold has mercifully rested his case re Longer( his email above of earlier today ) so I can nominate my preference for Hickey over Longer without fear of being made to feel like a second class citizen unworthy of the right to have - let alone voice - an opinion !

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
I'm not anti-Hickey, but if he had played against Port, we would have been smashed, 10 goals plus and it would have been over early.
It was a brutal game, finals like pressure and Billy rumbled well enough. If Hickey had played he may very well have been towelled up as he was in the first against Sydney! Ryder is a beast and a bloody skilled beast. Hickey was insipid against Sydney and it takes more than a couple of high possesion games in the VFL to make that up.
Longer will play this week and deserves to.
If he does warrant been dropped in forthcoming weeks, then we need to have a look at Lewis Pierce anyway.

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
Interesting comment made by Richo last night on 360.
Robbo asked it if it was now time to start playing Goddard and some more of the young ones.
Richo said yes, If form warranted their selection but they would only be brought into the team to replace another young player.
Don't think that sounded too promising for guys like Goddard.
His papers might have already been stamped.
If they are, I have a feeling he will go on to be a good player with another side.

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
Of course Longer will play against Carlton - he matched Ryder and managed to stay with Gawn the week before, plus held his own against Witts the week before the bye.
But Marshall will come in for McCartin at FF, and you'd think Hickey will probably have to come in for Gilbo. At least Longer won't have to ruck the entire game without a chop out again. He'll have his hands full with Kreuzer. Hickey is mobile and can take a mark and kick a goal, or drop back in defense if we're under the pump, especially early, plus take some of the boundary ruck contests. I'd rather not see Gresham in the ruck this week thanks.
There should be a lot of changes this week - can't play another small backline - Goddard and White in to cover Brown and Carlisle at FB and CHB. I hope Carlisle comes back this week but his body language showed he is still injured at training, so can't see it.
I don't want to scapegoat players but there are a few players needing a spell in the magoos who could justifiably be dropped in the midfield for Freezer and Acres.
I think you could make an argument for 6 changes this week, even though we competed well against Port.
If past selections are any guide, Lonie might come back in too, at the expense of a mid.
Carlton will be desperate Friday night, they're copping a hammering in the media, and you can bet internally they're copping it too. But that's nothing compared to the sh*tstorm which will hit Moorabbin Friday night if we don't win. You could see the relief on the coaches' dials when Gresham kicked that goal against the Suns, we won't be that lucky again if we let Carlton get 7 goals ahead of us.
