We really should pound Carlton.
Even with the team we had today.
They were horrendous. They are Tanking for sure.
Saying that Acres and Hickey should return. IMO.
Would love to debut the Freezer.
Weller and Wright just look out of there depth often.
I want to smash the blues.

Yeah... would love it if they played Freezer. Carlton are VFL standard at the moment anyway... time to give him a taste of it.

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
It will come down to Richo and his selectors, if he puts the same blokes out there next week we’ll win by 20pts if we’re lucky.
Bring in Hickey, Carlisle, Acres, Freeman and Coffield and we’ll pump them by 10 goals plus.

One would have to imagine that the time is right for Freezer...
If not now after a decent sustained patch at Sandy and a soft target in Carlton... then when?

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
At this stage, I’m not fussed about the result.
I want to see positive selection first. This week was a pretty negative one. I think it was based on stopping Port Adelaide rather than beating them.
Pick a team that could win the game.
I’d be happy with that.

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
If we can not beat Carlton....well, it's likely we won't.
When we should win easy we seem to fail, we should have smashed the Suns with so many of their starters out instead we scrape by, Demons, I actually won 113.60 betting Saints win by 5 or less. They'd ( Demoms) been sliding and we can sometimes ring their bell.
Thinking about this I was wondering if theres anyone else we might scalp due to having some voodoo power over them at times... maybe Tigers? We have done them unexpectedly.
Be nice to get just 1 game where we play an opponent who is at the top of their game and on that given day the Saints go marching in .....

If our Coach continues to select his favourites then Kruezer will cruise the ground and kill us
I would not be putting a win against Carlton in the bag
We are just selecting too many ordinary players - and they keep being selected

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
Don’t know about that. I think he’s picking players he thinks will win us games. He rates Armitage, Gilbert and Geary - experience over youth. And he’s opted for Longer over Hickey but that’s a recent development. Neither have been great and both have significant deficiencies in their games.To the top wrote: ↑Sat 07 Jul 2018 11:27pm If our Coach continues to select his favourites then Kruezer will cruise the ground and kill us

He does pick some ordinary players but that’s because our list is ordinary and we have a number of our best players out injured. Can’t blame the coach for that.

I'm not so shure...
While I hope we flog them don't be surprised if they turn up for this match after all the media has savaged them... If they are tanking they can still afford to knock us off and stay on the bottom.
I'd like to see us go with youth and a bit more daring. AR may play it safe .. after all his job may be on the line if they flog us!!!

Teams usually respond to a week of merciless criticism.
Doesn't hurt that the Saints are eminently beatable.
Wouldn't be surprised if we manage to lose it.

Lets not get rash.
Another win to each of Brisbane and Gold Coast and we could finish runners up.
Number 2 pick isn't that bad.

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
If we beat Carlton it would be a sign that we are improving/we're on the right track/we have great culture....what a load of bs
The Melbourne win was good. If we'd beaten Port or if we win against a team in the top 8, now that would be a good sign
Pounding or even getting over the line against Carlton...pffft....I know what Teflon will be thinking

Someone better bring a box of tissues in case if it all becomes too much for Murphy again.
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
Carlton's top few experienced players and talented young kids are much better than ours, but we have more competent footsoldiers than them. Their top tier of Cripps, Kruezer, Murphy, Simpson and Curnow x2 is far stronger than ours but they sure do have a lot of incompetent players as well. If we replace ours (especially Wright, Longer, Joyce) with the likes of Hickey, Carlisle and Acres then we're a chance. We've got to play 3 talls forward as well - I would bring Goddard in for McCartin and have him play a similar role; just mark it or bring it to ground and potentially switch with Carlisle
Out: McCartin (inj), Longer, Wright, Joyce, Newnes, Gilbert
In: Marshall, Hickey, Goddard, Carlisle, Acres, Freeman
B: Webster, Austin, Geary
HB: Savage, Carlisle, McKenzie
C: Sinclair, Armitage, Ross
HF: Weller, Marshall, Billings
F: Gresham, Goddard, Membrey
Foll: Hickey, Steven, Steele
Int: Acres, Clark, Dunstan, Freeman

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
Agree mad saint guy. As devil's advocate: things Carlton will have in its favour:
- Saints had a v. tough physical game against Port and will be sore;
- side is injury ravaged and unsettled;
- Carlton and esp. Bolton will be desperate, he knows this is probably his last chance to keep his job;
- what mad saint guy said, noting we do not seem to have the nous not to kick to where other teams stars are;
- the selection riddle: on 360 AR said better players and improvement will come from the existing list but they (unidentified) won't get games in order to preserve selection integrity; they need to meet some unstated VFL performance level. Think about the loop holes in that logic: players that have proven not to be at the required standard but are in the AFL team keep getting picked by default, Lonie can be chosen over a Freeman or a Phillips or a White or a Marshall or a Coffield, what if there is a hidden diamond that the coaches can't see for looking...Perhaps AR is going the route of, yes we need change but not yet.
- we have a poor record on Fridays - as well as weekends in general
- we don't seem to cope with favouritism on the rare occasion that occurs.
We should win easily, and I will be gutted if we lose, but not overly surprised. Nearly desensitised.

Tanking?
Do you think the players aren't trying? Or the club is holding them back through game day moves and selection?

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
The brown baggers are copping a pounding in the press.
Just as likely to come out and pound us. We have very little tall talent left on the field.
No Roberton, Carlisle, Brown, Bruce, McCartin or Battle .
Their forwards and ruck will have a field day.
Hope to gawd, I'm wrong .

Re: We really should pound Carlton.
I am not confident of a win let alone killing Carlton. They will give us everything they have this week which isn't a lot, sure, but then again we don't have a lot either. We all saw the game on Saturday and we were repugnant. When Armo is the best player on the ground by a fair bit then we have real issues.
For Carlton the Curnow brothers can play as can Kruezer and Cripps. Zac Fisher and Sam Petrevski-Seto are similar to Hunter and Coffield. I.e. filled with promise and talent and can have an impact on their day. If they drop Casbault and play Harry McKay then they will lift. Plus they can win and still stay at the bottom so they will leave nothing on the table on Friday night and we have a 6 day turnaround from interstate.
To be honest I think it will be close and come down to a kick or two.
