Re: Jimmy Webster
Barracking for one of the worst clubs in professional sport i visit here for enlightenment from knowledgeable posters, unfortunately, all i get in reality is crap like what has been posted in this thread, fair dinkum, most of the people here don't have a farkin clue, no wonder clubs instruct their players not to read this shite.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Jimmy Webster
Webster a plodder?
When the Ball hits the deck below his knees he is very good has some zip, courageous and very agile.
There was a time he was turning it over and losing his feet but this year he has been very good. Savage has no more upside, White can’t get any momentum in his career, Rice has just started so has a long way to go, Roberton has heart issues so fingers crossed he gets back to 2017 form, Coffield is just a pup but looks like we have a player but none of them are ahead of Webster this year. In 2/3 years it’s anyones guess I don’t have a crystal ball.

Re: Jimmy Webster
He is a plodder but has a lot of people fooled how good he is.
He can kick the ball well, but generally doesn't.
He is courageous I will give him that.
He gets beaten a lot in one on ones.
Also isn't that quick or a great decision maker.
But otherwise he is elite!!!

disagree... does well in one on ones (do you have stats showing he does not?)jaxons wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 1:24pm He is a plodder but has a lot of people fooled how good he is.

And agree his kicking in previous years has been poor, even though it looks good...
but this year he has improved a lot and actually hits targets..
Has a good balance between defense and attack, the right balance for a modern player
Easily in our best 10 and should remain a fixture in the team as it improves, and as sub standard players are discarded

He's at nearly 80% disposal efficiency. His kicking this year has been the best in any year.

Re: Jimmy Webster
Agree with Jaxon
The fact that so many have the opinion of Webster that they do is the reason they follow a bottom side.
Jaxon's CV of Webster reflects the shortcomings that have been in evidence since he debuted and he has not improved.
Defenders just can not lose their feet in a contest.
And in terms of rebound, compare Webster with Gram.
There is no comparison.
Apart from Carlisle our defense is a major problem area and given we have the numbers we have on our List described as "defensive flankers" plus Austin and Goddard it is time to look at 2019.
Not only is the structure of our side pathetic but our "tail" of half a dozen or more players who are gifted games by the current Football Department are the reasons we sit where we sit on the Ladder.

You need to read the fine print on what constitutes an Effective Disposal though.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 1:45pm He's at nearly 80% disposal efficiency. His kicking this year has been the best in any year.
It's a very misleading stat.

Re: Jimmy Webster
You forgot his major weaknesses - he is hopelessly one sided, is one paced and doesn't have a baulk. This means that a good player can corral him, and force him onto to his non preferred which ends in a dribble, turnover or free. Like most Saints players of the last decade, he can't take a contested mark. Over that period, Sam Fisher, and now Jake Carlisle, are the only two with that skill. A premiership team needs three.jaxons wrote: ↑Sat 07 Jul 2018 9:06pm Not sure what the fuss is about this bloke.
One of the most average players I have ever seen at the Saints.
Falls over at the wrong time always, and also turns it over often.
Everyone has fallen in love with him.
We have so many half back flankers who will be better than him.
McKenzie, Coffield, White, Rice, Savage, Newnes, Roberton.
Webster, just a plodder for mine.
Jimmy is a good "down the line" kick but not pinpoint. He does have a bit of depth in his kicking which can catch defenders who play in front a bit unawares. But it's not consistent enough. I don't think he's much worse than the rest on your list, but it's a bit soon to make a call on Nick Coffield. He can kick both sides - something the rest can't.

Just to put some perspective on that %DE stat...parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 1:45pm He's at nearly 80% disposal efficiency. His kicking this year has been the best in any year.
In R2 against North, in what was quite possibly the most repugnant spectacle of Aussie Rules footy ever displayed - we went at 75% Disposal Efficiency. Apparently.
That is higher than what the number 1 team in the entire comp in this stat goes at!
It's Avery flawed stat that one.

There hasn't been much fuss at all about him. Not sure sure what you're on about here. I agree, he's an average footballer, but he's also an average footballer who has put in a lot of hard yards. He's a tireless defender, similar to Sam Gilbert, in that respect. With him being up among our best players this year, it is only testament to how badly we have performed as a team in 2018. This should speak more about our better skilled players, e.g. Billings, whom have simply not done enough!!

Re: Jimmy Webster
Who are you Jaxons? Seriously what a load of crap.
No I don't think he's Elite either and is probably at his peak now, but he's still a very good player. Very good kick, rarely gets beaten and takes loads of intercept marks for a smaller player. He was a bit down yesterday after coming back from an injury.
McKenzie has shown some improvment, but he really can't kick. I like Rice and White, but they're not as good as Webster. No where near it. Hopefully they have more improvement in them as they're still young.

I thought it would be well established by now that he was in fact the club janitor at Seaford. That's not to put it down. Sure, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it!

Re: Jimmy Webster
Jaxons clearly hasnt been watching JW this season.
He's not only beaten his opponents he's been our best defender.
He's strong overhead and fearless in the contest.
hang on what am I doing - arguing with an idiot.....

Strong overhead hey....how many contested marks do you think he has taken this year?
I know the answer!
Isn't it amazing how when people disagree with your opinion they have to get personal.
Would respect you more if you disagreed with some good reasoning rather than insulting personally.

Re: Jimmy Webster
Jimmy W is close to our best player along with Carlisle and J. Steven. Period.
I don't even know why we are talking about him to be honest. Plus he is better than any other small defender on our list. Period.
More importantly. Who are we targeting or getting this off season Mr Jaxons? You always know something.

Re: Jimmy Webster
He actually has good disposal efficiency (a very real stat by the way) and rebounds better than anyone on our list. This guy might win the B and F and he's getting harsh treatment from some. I don't get it. What else can he do? The guy is nearly A grade.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 4:06pmJust to put some perspective on that %DE stat...parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 1:45pm He's at nearly 80% disposal efficiency. His courage and toughness is A-Grade - but he's C+ at best as an all round player IMO.
