Re: Umpires v Port
I was joking earlier that I think the umpires have a pool on what they can get away with against St Kilda.
It’s a list, and the ump that can tick the most off gets his end of season trip paid for.

Re: Umpires v Port
I only saw about 25% of the game but 2 decisions stood out.
Mark paid to Robbie Gray in the middle of a pack when the man in from clearly had his hands on it and a deliberate out if bounds paid on half forward in the third when the Saints player was clearly trying to kick it to Gresham.
Disgusting

Re: Umpires v Port
They were bad but when we really mounted a challenge they screwed us royally. We caught SPP red hot somehow it was high. Gresh was still in a headlock when the umpire pinned him Gilbert in the square taken from on the deliberate all kept Port going.

Re: Umpires v Port
Did anyone see the one where Port kicked it out on the full but the Saints player was given no space to be able to kick it in?
The Port player was allowed to smother the kick whilst still over the boundary line, and the boundary umpire threw it in.

Re: Umpires v Port
The umpires were very s***. I think it was just before half time when they got those two 'high tackle' frees in a row. It was simply bizarre.
Lucky they didnt get a goal - but it probably cost us one.

Re: Umpires v Port
The AFL is corrupt on this front.
They DO square up the free kick counter when it becones lopsided. I have no doubt about that happening most games. The umps get paid very well. They don't want to lose their gig like anyone else or its off to the AFL gulags.

In our last 6 quartersof footy the free kick count is 22 to the saints 43 to the opposition.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 1:39pm The AFL is corrupt on this front.

Re: Umpires v Port
Geary needs to have a tutorial with Cameron Smith. We are too passive on bad calls. Richo should leap around the technical area as if he were a Columbian at some of the calls. Weller maybe run through the worst decision umpire, HARD - then two birds with one stone (not targeting female umps or Mav's macho-ness, its a saying). As much as Eddie irks me at times he does stick up for his team when he perceives an injustice. We seem too accepting, there must be ways to make the umps respect us more. Marshall's mark against Natanui taken off him and then 50 metres, beyond outrageous and incompetence - and there are plenty of other examples (see above). If you are coming bottomish why not make a fuss and stand up strong when the inevitable cries of whinger come or the old favourite, they are human and make mistakes (often it seems). Call out the incompetence or cheating, whatever. Put the umps under scrutiny. Despite the chestnut about the umps don't cost games they do, and no one can show otherwise unless you can simulate what would have happened if the correct call was made and show exactly the same game score results. And it is a fallacy that there are not plenty to take the places of the current umps if some retire due to hurt feelings, indeed I doubt many umps worry about the players careers.

Re: Umpires v Port
The non free to Gilbert for the front on was disgusting. Especially because just for a few minutes we had momentum at that time.
Pretty sure Membrey got the same non decision in a game a couple of weeks ago
Just for the record I would say that every front on spoil involves a free kick unless there is clear indication of no contact. I would say players go front on almost as a professional/ deliberate free to stop run.

Re: Umpires v Port
My God the umpires rode Collingwood home yesterday. If the shoe was on the other foot the Herald Sun would demand a full blown investigation and Eddie would be crying like a bitch.

Re: Umpires v Port
The AFL make sure Collingwood are looked after and they usually get an armchair ride with the umps.
Look at the “draw” they get every year - they play West Coast and Port at the MCG while Saints have to play over there every year.

Re: Umpires v Port
I’m just watching the replay for the first time and there were two incidents in the first quarter that both should have ended up with a Newnes shot from the goal square.
The first he marked 40m out and Wines who was not in the contest makes no effort to get out of the way and bumps Newnes to ground. Maybe bump is a little strong but he braced himself and made no effort to avoid contact.
The second was the one that Pepper Pig rushed through, this was much more of a throw than what was paid last week against Seb Ross.

"John Worsfold to seek meeting with AFL umpires’ boss Hayden Kennedy over Essendon’s horrid free kick ledger
ESSENDON coach John Worsfold will seek a meeting with umpires’ boss Hayden Kennedy about why the Bombers are on the wrong end of a woeful free-kick ledger.
Over three weeks Essendon has been awarded 45 free kicks and its opposition’s 80.
Worsfold called Kennedy last week after the 11-21 free- kick count against North Melbourne, but will escalate the conversation by meeting Kennedy personally.
Bombers head of football Dan Richardson has also twice spoken to AFL head of football Steve Hocking over free-kick concerns in the past fortnight.
“I’ve had a couple of discussions with ‘Hock’ personally and ‘Woosha’ has had some contact with Hayden as well,’’ Richardson told the Herald Sun.
“There’s a level of concern around and we would like to get to the bottom of it if we can.
“There may well be something wrong with how we’re coaching our players."

Re: Umpires v Port
To me the count isn't the problem, it's interpretation. I could only watch 1/4 and a half because of the umpiring. Time after time we would get pinged for something that PA. got away with. This has been happening now for years and is beyond a joke. To have played, coached and watched football for many years, it baffles me that our club consistently lets them get away with it...are we that insignificant, really?saynta wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 4:36pmIn our last 6 quartersof footy the free kick count is 22 to the saints 43 to the opposition.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jul 2018 1:39pm The AFL is corrupt on this front.
