Not sure what Rice did wrong?

I thought he was progressing nicely and works really hard.
In a season when we can't make finals except under the Kosifantutti scenario we should be getting as many games as possible into Rice.

Perhaps Richo thinks Rice is under-cooked, or a bit puffy?

Some one at Moorabbin doesn't like him.
+1 It doesn't make any sense at all.

The coach likes the boy who is 'strong in the contest' whatever the f*** that means. Can you be strong while you're stumbling over and not getting anywhere near your opponent? Can you be strong in the contest and continue all game to be no-where near the pill?

I mean unless you start being a tagger like Ryan Crowley or Stevie Baker and you can totally nullify your opponent then how the hell can Billy justify getting selected when his opponents continually smashes him?

It's not what you know or how well you play. It's more a case of our stubborn coach selecting the guy he wants no matter what

Once again totally baffled by our selectors.

How can they possibly justify selecting Longer again after the respective games of Longer and Hickey last week??

It's like their blinked view when they kept selecting Lonie so many times after his numerous failures.

Yet others like Rice and White get dropped after showing reasonable form.

Weller and Newnes have shown many lapses in form but never get dropped.

Kinda explains why we've been in 16th spot most of the first half of the year and why we'll probably finish no higher than 14th. That's after Richo's 5th year. He recruited Nathan Brown in 2016 because he thought he'd be handy in finals ....bwahahahahahahahah

Paddy versus Watts
The match up of the century.
Two No 1 draft picks playing against each other
Port brought in Watts to see who is the worst No1 pick of this century.
You could have to waited until Western Bulldogs played GWS as well, but Patton out with an ACL!
Good call. I guess the Dogs got a premiership out of Boyds 4 good games of his career.....so the timing was amazing.
Bit of a lesson here in taking talls that early....Reiwoldt looks like the exception.

Well, no excuses this week. He's gone with the tried and tested - Gilbert, Webster and Wright, adding to old reliables Geary, Armo, Stuv and Seb Ross. No second ruckman due to the weather forecast, and Mav has kept his spot due to being 'strong', I assume. I thought we might see Logan playing against his side, happy with that.
If we win, or go close as we did last year then we'll all be singing his praises. But there can't be any excuses on Saturday afternoon for being a 'developing side' if our younger players are dropped, stuck at the Zebs, or injured. No, that is an experienced battle hardened side that has been picked and I fully expect us to go out and win or come close.
I now believe that I will never see Freezer play a senior game, and we will never again see Goddard in the red, white and black. I am disappointed White or Marshall didn't get an opportunity this week to be honest; I think the brains trust are worried about us getting a real momentum-sapping buzzkill of a hiding and they're playing it safe, which is fair enough, so long as the team selected have at least some chance of winning.
But I think we need to give him and the selectors the benefit of the doubt and get behind and 100% support the team selected - after all, they will be representing us tomorrow.

It’s a shame because I reckon he looks good but even if he played this week he wouldn’t be a world beater...

He’s the type of player that you would have hoped got 25 games under his belt over three seasons and hoped he jumped forward as he got bigger and fitter

I’m not so bothered about the Longer selection as it’s worth seeing what he can do and he deserves a reasonable run at it...

But didn’t we hear these arguments already with Andrew McQualter and Robert Eddy

2010... it’s not about possessions or direct impact but following the structure, chasing, guarding, pressuring that brings your other team mates into play...

Then when we weren’t winning, these became less than desirable qualities

Surprised by the Wright selection, I reckon he’s had more than enough chances.
I would’ve preferred to see Coffield, Phillips, Rice or Freeman getting more game time.

As for Longer and Weller I reckon once the club works out how to deal with the obvious leather allergy these two STRONG players have, then they’ll be right up there with the very best in the comp.

If there’s one indicator that really suggests something is NQR with Richo it’s the continued perseverance with Mav Weller... the guy quite literally doesn’t and hasn’t produced good football for 2 years and seems completely beyond reproach.

At least with Longer I can understand the rationale in given him an extended go

That’ll be 3 on the trot heading into the blues match

Damn straight. I mean - knowing that I rightly received a warning for accusing Richo and his Match Committee or being on meth - I would be mentioning that again.

But I still can’t work out how - in what’s turned out very early to be a development season - we see fit to give games to complete proven no-hopers (ie Lonie; Wright) and players who’ll not be there when we’re good again (Gilbert) yet leave Coffield and White (a-fu€king-gain!!!!) whilst simultaneously dropping Rice (who I haven’t seen do much wrong in his recent run.

You’d think the talented youngsters would get much better much more quickly playing at the level surrounded by better players.

Call me crazy ....
5 weeks ago everybody said that there was no hope for Dmac but he has re-ignited his career in the last few weeks, surely Wright deserves the same chance, whats the worst that can happen? he fails he gets delisted, Rice will obviously be there for the long term so will White, and Coffield
You make some really good points but, I just don’t see the point in NOT getting games into our better young players right now. It’s the perfect opportunity to accelerate development and I think we’re squandering it on some proven spuds.

I guess we are in denial that the season is over for us and playing our best team as opposed to a developing team.

Gilbo being picked makes sense in that he can play multiple role i.e. back and ruck and we will need some experience up back. Webster straight in of course but Wright was a bit of surprise but he has been playing well in the VFL and lays a lot of tackles up forward and impacts the score board. This should be the last chance for him now but it was either him or Lonie so it could be worse. Logan against he's old team also makes sense as he will be used to Adelaide oval and how they play. Joyce keeps his spot more out of necessity to have another tall back incase Gilbo/Logan get injured

Goddard and Freezer are not playing that well in VFL. They are not bad but they are not setting the place alight either. Most likely they will play round 22-23 once the season is gone.

your shrill voice interrupted the bliss of my basket weaving class so back to reality

Yep Im with you - no excuses for our on ballers this week P Ryder has not set the world alight this year and been well down on his usual form
But on AR's long game plan subject - lets play Longer the rest of the year & pump up his value
then shop him to GWS or Geelong (???) and get a first rounder for him

AR has zero desire to get any games into a Marshall and has stamped the papers of Pierce, so trading Longer seems the most logical path

I don’t think Rice did anything wrong and it’s just team balance.
You can’t have three small defenders together and with Webster coming back they couldn’t keep Geary and Rice there.
