Good friday loss derailed the saints both on and off the field
Well, according to Richo it did.
https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/ ... de7e945659
"Richardson revealed how the Round 2 loss to North Melbourne derailed St Kilda’s season.
St Kilda entered the highly-anticipated Good Friday clash as firm favourite but was torched by a seven-goals-to-none final term by the Kangaroos and humbled by 52 points.
Richardson has another two years on his contract. Picture: AAP
The defeat triggered an 11-match sequence without a win, a stretch that sunk any finals ambitions and poured heat on players and those in charge at the club.
“The Kangaroos game, in hindsight it probably wasn’t a disastrous performance, the margin in the end was really poor, that really dented our belief,” Richardson said.
“And that took a while to recover, to be able to get the guys back playing really bold, aggressive footy.
“The first thing to go was our offence. We became a really conservative, boring footy team. We couldn’t kick a score.
“Then as our form started to come back it coincided with injuries, now I don’t want to make excuses, that’s just reality.
“The positive in that is we’ve been able to expose a lot of young players to senior footy.”
The Saints have introduced four debutants this season — Hunter Clark, Nick Coffield, Ed Phillips and Bailey Rice — while other youngsters in Josh Battle, Ben Long, Rowan Marshall, and Logan Austin have also been thrust into senior action.
St Kilda has used 36 players, equal with Essendon, Geelong and the Western Bulldogs. Only Gold Coast (38) has used more."
And Lethlean is quoted in the article as saying
"“I see a playing list and a coaching staff that needs more support, more insights and a few more smart, hardworking people in our football program to actually give the tools … that can help our players and coaches be better."
There is also a fair bit about improving the list.
Worth a read actually.

Even then we only got over the line in that last quarter through sheer weight of forward entries rather than precision football.

How ridiculous
Season derailed Rd 2
That only happens when you are seriously overrating a list in a delusional manner - how the ferk could you do that???? Blind Freddy knew we didn’t have the elite talent needed to seriously challenge
Doesn’t anyone else find that odd?
This is just garbage ass covering
We are stuck for 2 years that’s what they can’t say

We were derailed in Round One 1897 when Collingwood more than doubled our score at Victoria Park.

You hear some weird things in football but that comment from Richo is just very odd (I am assuming he was quoted correctly). Why would a team give up a season on the back of one poor quarter in the second game?
That one line says more about the leadership and coaching than anything else.

If Richo did not think that the Kangaroos game was not disastrous then this club is in for a world of pain ......saynta wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jun 2018 6:27pm Well, according to Richo it did.

It was, categorically the worst performance I have seen by a St Kilda team.

Yep - that was after the players had to go to the complete fu(ktard coaches mid-game the week before against Geelong and ask for another number ahead of the ball so they had something to kick to. They basically played the GWS game the way they played last year - pressure on the man; pressure on the ball carrier. None of this fu(king guarding grass bullsh!t they've tried this year.Devilhead wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jun 2018 7:18pmGWS draw I assumedesertsaint wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jun 2018 6:52pm “And that took a while to recover, to be able to get the guys back playing really bold, aggressive footy.

Re: Good friday loss derailed the saints both on and off the field
I think there's a massive element of "we knew we had that sh!tful performance in us as we've got skill deficiencies all over the park but we were hoping like hell it wouldn't actually appear - let alone on a standalone TV game". And when it did happen - they had zero idea how to go about dealing with it.CarlD wrote: ↑Fri 29 Jun 2018 10:04am You hear some weird things in football but that comment from Richo is just very odd (I am assuming he was quoted correctly). Yep....denial denial. This interview with Richardson, Summers’ email message......the same tone. Trying to look accountable, “but we are not really the problem”.......”it’ll get better we promise”.......”we have a great opportunity to improve in the remaining games”.........and seriously, Armo and Geary are essential pieces in our recovery...oh dear.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Fri 29 Jun 2018 10:26amI think there's a massive element of "we knew we had that sh!tful performance in us as we've got skill deficiencies all over the park but we were hoping like hell it wouldn't actually appear - let alone on a standalone TV game". It was a shocking performance against North Melbourne especially as most of us would have a predicted a win against the lowly roos....I think that game showed where we were really at....and after game 2...

Re: Good friday loss derailed the saints both on and off the field
Probably among the worst games that i have seen by the saints.
I was down the coast on the easter break but decided to drive back to town to watch the game with the kids. It was a terrible game of football, not st.kildas fault as nth were just as terrible but we missed an embarrassing amount of goals from right in front and were 2.10 each at 1/2 time, i think we kicked 1.9 in the 2nd quarter.
acres kicked an amazing late goal in the 3rd from around 50 metres out (brilliant goal) and were i think 1 goal down
i felt we were still in the game 1/2 way in the last quarter (what 20 odd points down or something), membrey and mccartin missed from right in front and then nth kicked a bunch of junk time goals to bring the margin out to 50 odd points.
we just gave up, it was appalling. north players knew it and were rubbing it in.
to make matters worse i forgot the easter eggs for the easter egg hunt at home on the drive back up the coast.
bah. crap long weekend.

Agree with the sentiment shared here
Of course the result was disasterous! How could it not be if he is linking it to the downfall of the season. Equally, as most have said, if one loss equates to the ending of a season then that is a severe failing in leadership and a significant overrating of capability.
Finally, he is delusional if he thinks we are playing good hard, attacking, positive football (however he describes it) I reckon across the 11 losses we’ve probably shown about 2-3 quarters worth in total that would fit this description
What a tard...yet according to the club he isn’t the problem

That loss, or norths win more specifically, showed what a club with grit, determination, belief and strong leadership can do.
As much as it pains me to say it Scott is having his best season ever based on the list at his disposal and the players are most definitely ‘playing’ for him and for each other

Re: Good friday loss derailed the saints both on and off the field
exactly gusto......that sums it up. North were lowly last year and we were coming off 11 wins. This should not have been the defining game for the saints but Richardson let it be and did not arrest the slide. The players dropped off or were they even on song 2018 ? Whatever it was , it has cost the club dearly and if they dont make some MAJOR changes end of year then the club will notice a 30% decrease in members and attendance and that wont be nice and it wont be pretty.
