Re: Do we Do Goey?????
I would be amazed if the Pies let go of this youngster.
Cannot see it happening, unless they have no room in the cap
and can't afford what the market might be asking.
But listen, we would be #18 on his manager's shopping list.
Stone motherless last, I'd say.
Hawks, Swans, up the top of his list, maybe even Melb would be high up there.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
I think the idea of De Goey and other players, being "offered" to a club like ours,
appears to be similar to a scenario where a gorgeous lady at a party is being ignored
by her fella,
so she goes off and talks to all the "Big Bang Theory" nerdy types, trying to
make boyfriend jealous.
The nerds are way below her batting average, she is just using them as leverage.
Stop dreaming about impossibilities.

No doubt Boyd has been a flop but with his performance in that 2016 GF they could justify his expense on that game alone

6 million for a player that has delivered a few decent games and doesn't look like delivering anymore than a 400k player anytime soon would be causing significant concern for the Doggies and I wonder if the admin at the Dogs can leverage off thier silverware when trying to negotiate prime time game slots and trying to attract sponsorships and other revenue streams while possibly being a bottom 4 side.Devilhead wrote: ↑Wed 27 Jun 2018 8:09pm2016 Premiership ....... anyone?Cairnsman wrote: ↑Wed 27 Jun 2018 7:57pm Recruit two players for 500k and maximise your value for money and keep team harmony and avoid resentment of the messiah from a young and developing list. I'm arguing better value and a chance at sustained succsess with 2 players at say the $500-$700k than $1-1.4m player.

Great intent from the club. Whether we get something or nothing, the club just has to have a serious crack at it this year. No more Mr Nice Guy anymore Saints please.

Do Goey is not worth a million bucks a year. Nowhere near that amount. Happy that Norths offer puts an additional strain on the Woods salary cap.

If he wants to come we should do whatever it takes to get him. Give up our first pick, pay him big dollars. Personally though I can't see him leaving the Pies. They can't be that unhappy with him if they keep picking him every week. And if he wasn't happy I doubt he'd be playing as well as he is.
His manager will follow the Fyfe/Martin/Kelly example and shop him him around so that he can get as much money out of Collingwood as he can.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
I honestly do see your point re paying $1m to anyone but those 3 you mention are now worth $1.2-$1.5m with the increased salary cap in the open market. Gaff will get $750k from West Coast. To move he will demand more. And with competition for his services even more.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jun 2018 8:49pm$1m a season gets you Buddy, Martin or Danger. He is an All-Australian, A B&F winner at WCE. Score an average 108 fantasy points - not that this means much but is known for his skillful delivery as a link player. He is 26 this year and would have 5 seasons left in him. He is a restricted free agent so will not cost us any draft picks or player swaps. he literally goes to the highest bidder. And remember we have more than $2 million in our cap.
His Profile reads:
The running-machine continued his outstanding form of previous seasons in 2017, leading the Eagles for total disposals for a third-straight year, averaging 29.7 a game. Was ultra-consistent, gathering 30-plus possessions in 13 games, including a career-high 42 touches against the Western Bulldogs in round 15. Finished sixth in the John Worsfold Medal and was awarded life membership after notching up his 150th game for the club in round 19 against Brisbane.

Restricted free agent doesn't mean that he won't ask the club bidding for his service to do the right thing by the Eagles

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
I got told on here a few weeks ago that our club would never use terms like “we need top end talent”
Check below from Richo......
“If he is a good player, then we will look at him - it's as simple as that really. We are looking to support our list. We think that what we have done in terms of going to draft and bringing in young talent that we think potentially can be great players, we think we have done a pretty good job in that space but we need to support that with some experience, some top end talent," he said.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
If $2 million is accurate then I think 2 or 3 players in the $600k to $700k range is a better fit for our club and where the list development is at. It will be better for depth, versatility and team harmony and culture.
Would you also recruit these types in the hope that one or two of them improves into a 1$ million dollar player or even helps players already on the list to step up a bracket?
Do poor clubs like ours have to invest in low to meduim risk portfolios with longer term ROI? I don't think we can afford the risk of selling the farm for one marquee player that might not be the answer to sustained success as your goal.

No way I want to swap Pick 3 for DeGoey, and then pay him 1M a year.....just way over.
Keep pick 3 throw the money at a FA or 2.
We cannot seem to attract elite talent....we have to draft it, end of!

Jordan De Goey knocks back $1 million offers, tells Collingwood he’s staying
EXCLUSIVE: JORDAN De Goey has told Collingwood he will stay at the club.
The hard-nut midfielder is expected to sign a two-year extension, turning down huge million dollar offers from St Kilda and North Melbourne.
His manager Ben Niall will now thrash out the final terms as the Pies attempt to bridge the gap between those offers and what they can afford.
Niall told the Herald Sun that there was still a gap, adamant there is no deal in place but working in good faith to broker a deal.
Importantly, De Goey has made the big call to remain at the club despite leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars per year on the table.
The Herald Sun understands his salary could be around $700,000 a year, but not the $1 million a year he could get over five seasons at North Melbourne.
It is a major coup for the Pies, who have this week lost Adam Treloar but are expected to inject De Goey into the midfield.
They are finally pushing strongly for finals and seem to have an established core of young stars.
Niall made clear no official agreement had been brokered.
“We haven’t done a deal yet. Jordy would like to do a deal, but there is a gap.
“We are being transparent with Collingwood and he is keen to stay.”
Collingwood chiefs are extremely confident they will lock him away until 2020, having recently re-signed Jaidyn Stephenson and Matthew Scharenberg.
The club has put enormous work into his personal development after a drink-drive charge and his deception over breaking his hand in a pub fight."
Thank god for that.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
err...what else did you expect. Why do delusional idiots keep persisting in posting that a top player will come to St Kilda at the end of this year or possibly even next year.....Ask yourself this question...Player A is with a top club on good money with a chance of playing finals this year and possibly the next 2-3 years should I go to St Kilda?
whats the answer you flogs? NO....read my lips.
No wonder the club is F**c*ed. Even the d**ckhead coach thinks that a top player will come to St Kilda for big money..pfft
