At one point the score was 44-1, the Bombers were leading the possession count 150-95 and were also leading the tackle count (amazing given the possession difference) and yet the Eagles had more frees. How is that possible. They didn't have the ball and weren't tackling as often. How can you get more frees?

Because they don't pay holding the ball, or improper disposal of the ball frees to interstate sides over there. The number of times I saw Eagles players tackled in their forward line and drop the ball red hot and were not penalised was just ridiculous. No sound from the crowd, no free kick, simples. Play on, nothing to see here Steve.

Good observation. And there you have the “noise of affirmation” in a nutshell.

Maybe the umpires should wear ear plugs and only pay the free kicks that they actually see?
There appears to be too much empirical data that there is an 'issue' for it to be 'waved off' as merely 'biased supporter complaints'.

My brother has said for years they should use deaf umpires. Crowd noise wouldn't be an issue.

Well, the AFL is an equal opportunities employer, and have plenty on their books who lack sense...they seem to have chose the wrong one though, as most umpires appear to be blind instead of deaf.

:D

33 frees to weagles, only 17 to Dons according to AFL records.

Roo got accused of umpire bashing when he was betting on the eagles winning the free kick count by 5.

I'm not sure how that's possible. The Bombers won the disposal count 392-319, the Eagles had 4 more tackles. How can it be so one sided?
And it happens every week over there. At least we're not the only ones being ripped off.

Happens to everyone who plays WCE in Perth. Been going on for more than a decade and the AFL does snafu about it.

So has SHocking concluded his in depth investigation into our complaint yet?

No.

It’s an AFL issue now and we just will get whitewashed out of it.

Finally GT’s issue from over a decade ago has some legs.

Much better than snakey Dimwit and his “let’s fien the coach” mentality.

The WCE free kick differential is disgraceful and should be a priority for the AFL to address. Even experienced umpires are intimidated by the crowd and give so many crowd frees it borders on complete incompetence.

Although not a huge differential in the Port v Melbourne game there were numerous calls the Port players got away with simply because of the crowd factor. One that was very noticeable was the Port players tackling the opposition before they were near or received the ball. SOS scragging has moved from defence to general play.

That was our GWS game all over...must have happened to our players a dozen times.
