Really enjoy the way you refuse to be bullied by the Blue Sky Brigade; those who are so scared of your truths that they need to attack you personally, as a juvenile coping strategy.

I am bullish about this year. 13 to 14 wins. A go at the flag in next 3 years. Kids are developing well. 7 stand out. Bottom six as good as I have known it. Richo will be judged based on performance in next 3 years. The past is irrelevant because we have not been good enough.

Careful Shag...this post is far too positive...you'll be accused of struggling with reality and being a club suckhole. Better to be a miserable sod who thinks the coach is useless...the playing list is hopeless...the administration lacks vision.Shaggy wrote:I am bullish about this year. 13 to 14 wins. For what it's worth...and at the risk of being subject to the same ridicule...I agree with you. I think the list runs deeper than at anytime I have known...not sure about our topend talent...but I am bullish about the season. This is my first year back in Melbourne since the 70s...so I plan on going to every game and enjoying the ride...good, bad or indifferent.

So true. Its doom and gloom central in this joint sometimes. You would have more fun in a graveyard on most days to be honest. A few uninspiring sad sacks post here that have a gripe with just about everything to do with St kilda. Sad people. I feel sorry for them a bit and find it NQR.
But anyway, I reckon the Saints will have a decent year and slip into the 8.

Re: Sack the Coach
Trivia question:
How many coaches in AFL/VFL history have survived coaching their first 100 games without making a final?
Can anybody think of one?
I thought of KB but he only coached 88 games.
Peter Knights managed one finals appearance.

Sack every coach. Sack'em retrospectively if you have to. Aint nuthin like a sackin!
Why do we even need the same coach every week, anyhow?

Between 1970 and 2000 the Cats had 9 coaches. A coach every three years.
Then ... Eventually....Three flags in quick succession.
Only two coaches in the last 18 years.

Re: Sack the Coach
The answers here are coming.
I mean if we have an average year in 2018 and really, have we seen anything to say otherwise, how can we keep giving up more and more years to what could just be another dead horse.
Rebuild upon rebuild upon rebuild.

Re: Sack the Coach
But do people really expect us to play finals this year with the current list?
There are at least 8 better lists playing this year, probably 12.
You can see why we were trying to throw the kitchen sink at a few stars last year, because the pressure is mounting on that 2020 vision and richo.

While I'm not completely sold on richo, I wouldn't be hinging his job on a finals appearance this year, I just hope we don't play middling top-ups all year at the expense of getting much needed experience into promising youth.

Re: Sack the Coach
Well it's top four or bust this year. flag or bust next year.
But happy to forgive them if they can bag a flag by 2030.
"The Saints unveiled their "strategic framework" for 2014-2018 to the club's members and key stakeholders at their season launch on Thursday night.
The vision is to ensure the club is "admired as a competition leader in recruiting, player development and coaching" by 2018.
The plan is to deliver Grand Final success before 2020 – which will be the Saints' second flag after their sole 1966 triumph – and ensure the club is in the top four by 2018."

And the ppl that run the club, that make the decisions... I don’t reckon they expect us to make the finals this year.
Richo’s reign: rebuild, rebuild, Steady improvement... steady improvement... old guard begin to retire, Richo is re-signed for 2 more years, Riewoldt (the best of us) and Monty retire.
No doubt finals is the goal but from a club perspective I don’t think it’s the be all and end all this season.

so he's in the top ten worst performing coaches to make 100 games?
if he lasts two more seasons he becomes second on the list.
