Do We Coax Back Grant Thomas?

Post: # 1735089Post Sainternist »

I, for one, would love to see GT back at the club. As crazy as it sounds, I wouldn't even poo-poo the idea of him coaching again. But to be realistic, it would never happen. On the other hand, I think he would be a tremendous asset to have back at the club in virtually any other capacity. How would he go in recruiting, developing players, mentoring or list management? I honestly he believe he always bent over backwards and bled for our club and at any cost. Whether or not he'd want to come back to work with the club is another question.

Thoughts?

Would you give Ross a call too. Imagine how good it would be to have GT and Ross back working at the club, as a team.

GT could be in charge of game day strategy and Ross could be in charge of list management. Hang on...have I got that around the wrong way.

on twitter, Thommo said he would never coach again.

He also said that if the AFL changed club atructures
to have an EPL (English soccer) style of manager.
not coach, he would be happy to be manager.
But he says that wouldn't happen.

GT in a Neil Balme role with Mitchell or Caracella as coach might work.

Both Mitchell and Caracella sound like promising potential replacements for Richo. If Banger applied, I wouldn't be dismissive to the idea of him coaching either.

GT would be great for St Kilda in a Neil Balme role, but I reckon the AFL would not allow Thomas to have a permit to be involved in any capacity.

Geezz, I hate the AFL...........

Should try to lure him back but not in a coaching role. IMHO.

Banger will never be a head coach!
Lenny may be though!

I'd go for Lenny, with Banger and Dal assistant coaches.

Plus i'd keep Sammy.

Anyone not a saints person can f*** off afaic.

And who wants to continue to see Banger in the midst of filth.

All those guys have passion and love the club.

Couldn't do any worse than the current mob.

I understand a couple of attempts by Banger in the past to come back to the club have been rebuffed. Outrageous.

What sort of competition is it if the league decides things like this?

I like the idea. Its innovative. Split the coaching role with a senior mentor, leadership, personal development component then a pure footy component. WOuld need to be able to work closely though

i asked him again on Twitter, he replied quickly that the EPL style is so radical, it'll never be brought in (the 'manager')
Then reminded of some innovations of St KFC (under him) like o/s training camps, etc.
Remember Sth Africa -Soweto? now a lot of clubs go o/s in preseason

I’ve worked out a plan!

Get GT as prez.

AFL will crack the shytes and invoke a Dimwit rule
from 2006 that states: “If GT ever has an official capacity at the Saints, they will be forced to play ALL regular season games in the twilight zone on Sunday!”

GT, being the innovator, will cop it on the chin and contact the makers of Twilight Zone who will commission a series to be shown every Sunday night following the footy on Foxtel.

We will become the Twilight Saints in the biggest sponsorship deal in AFL history, clearing our debt in one season.

Because he will call out the AFL and keep them honest. Just like Akermanis. The AFL hate people making them accountable

I think people yearn for a time when we had hope and direction and someone who would speak for the club.

On the back of this season there is a good chance that next year we will be playing every game on Sunday at 4pm anyway.
