Maverick Weller

Post: # 1733914Post Con Gorozidis »

Seriously how does this bloke get a game? I want a genuine answer.

He is 26 years old. By some miracle he has played 115 AFL games. He huffs. He puffs. The marketing team love him.
But seriously?

The dubious excuses about an ankle came out last season.
Then we heard he was 'trim and fit' during the off-season.

He might look good - but he cant actually play football. He isnt a forward. 55 goals from 115 games proves that. He isnt a midfielder. Average disposals of 15 proves that. He isnt a defender.
What the hell is he?

I know people will say you cant play all kids and get rid of the experienced players all at once. But what that really means is dont get rid of all your GOOD experienced players all at once. If you are experienced but terrible, surely the rule doesnt count?

Clearly needs to go.

I would also get rid of Hickey, Ross and Billings while they have some currency

At least we know Hickey plays in the Ruck.
He might not be any good at it. But we all agree he is a Ruck.

What the hell is Weller?
Genuine question.
It is an actual mystery.

Even the Suns saw this in him all those years ago.

Well I agree with you on this one...

I’ve been trying to figure out the Weller mystery for 2 years.

We’re willing to play him injured
He gets countless chances
Shocking set shot
Doesn’t kick goals, doesn’t tackle

It’s the single biggest thing that makes me question Richo’s judgment.

There’s some weird thing that the coaching team see in Weller that is not reflected in statistics or visible to supporters watching him but Richo is dead cert on it

I always chuckle when we hear that he is 'valued highly internally' and the fans 'dont see what the coaches see' but when those same players finally get de-listed no other club EVER picks them up.

I'm willing to bet $10,000 that no other AFL club would be interested in Weller if he left at years end.

While we're on the topic of Hickey, he's so far had 27 hitouts to Sinclair's 25. Hickey's only had 9 disposals, but Sinclair is only on 12 himself but admittedly he's kicked 3 goals also to Hickey's 1 behind.

Clearances are the really damning stat - in 24 to 32 the Swans way.

So, is that a good or a bad game for Hickey?

Hickey has had the most tackles on the ground and only 1 less disposal that Steven.

Clearly far from the biggest problem we have.

Game was won in the first qtr, the rest is white noise, Tom was nothing short of pathetic when it mattered, always goes ok when the result is beyond doubt!!!!!

Nice try through, do yourself a favour and watch the 1st qtr again!!!!!

Must have been Mav's last game. Sure he kicked a nice goal but it was his only kick to 3/4 time FFS.

If Freezer has a good game tomorrow, he's almost a certainty to play at the Gold Coast next weekend and I will be there cheering him on.

But there will be mo Weller brother reunion I'm afraid.
