Ben "Dover" Dixon
This guy has only got into their heads with his goal kicking methods and psyched them out. They all have the yips when taking shots for goal now.
Perhaps the club needs to get a hypnotherapist for the players, because Dick-son has screwed us good and spooked the horse. Can only hope the former Hawthorn hack gets his marching orders soon.

Re: Ben "Dover" Dixon
So the goal kicking solution was right under our noses and yet we didn’t have brains to think left field - again.
Tim Membrey was arguably one of the deadliest goal kickers in the league in previous years. Why not get him to coach the boys on goal kicking ?
Now they have completely f*cked Membrey up to make matters worse.
They are all too tight too tense . Seriously, give the boys a night off this week and let them just do kick to kick and shots at goal. Get some fun back, because the season is shot , and we don’t want our good players looking for the exit at year end.

Let him work with the guys who cant kick , not those who could. What has he done to Membrey?

Re: Ben "Dover" Dixon
Good point. Tim just went back to his routine and the results were there for all to see. Speaking of brains...When you have a dozen coaches in your footy department, surely there's someone in that group that can also assist players with set shot goals.
What a waste of time it was to hire Ben Dixon and what a waste of money from the club and footy department!!!! Another botched decision with poor results. The players would have been better off allocating that time to relaxation or recovery.
I saw enough in the first 10 rounds to conclude that Ben's methods were not working for the majority of our players. Get rid of him

Did he go back to his routine did he? Didn't notice that. The poor goal kicking couldn't just continue - had to turn around at some point. Did the Perth ground/atmosphere/more open type of play have something to do with it? Do we really know it is all Dixon's fault? We may well kick quite a few points next week with Sydney's congestion.

Never changed he's routine, was just having trouble with he's ball drop and therefore confidence, Dicko helped him work through it, like every good coach does!!!!!takeaway wrote: ↑Mon 04 Jun 2018 12:42pm Did he go back to his routine did he? Re: Ben "Dover" Dixon
These things take time and I think the results will be there to see down the track, even with apparently hopeless cases such as Billings.
It took me a year and a half to shake the putting yips. I still have my moments.
Talking golf here, but I expect the same principles apply. Good fundamentals and technique. Everything you can control before you pull the trigger. Good routine.
Focus on the target. Focus on the process rather than the outcome.
Key thing to remember is that it’s not a perfect science. Expect misses, expect mistakes.
Don’t beat yourself up when you miss. See misses as an opportunity to learn.

Re: Ben "Dover" Dixon
He didn't need to work with Dixon. His work with Dixon was the problem. In previous weeks when he was missing sitters, he was focussing on the footy and spending far too long looking at the ball and 'how' he was holding it, rather than focussing on a target.
On the weekend the time spent focussing on a target was far greater and therefore he hit his targets. That's exactly what he was doing last year and in 2016. I watched it and there was a significant change in where he looked and how much time he spent looking at the target. He intentionally went back to his old routine and whether Dixon assisted in this or not, is incidental. Anyone could have helped him rediscover his routine of where to look and time spent looking at target
The real test will be when or if Dixon can fix Billings and McCartin with their set shots. All this other horseshit about Dixon helping Membrey is rubbish

Spending far too long looking at the footy, as you put it, usually is because of focusing on the ball drop!!!!!

Some of us assess and watch with our own eyes rather than waiting for a coach or media person to tell us how to think
Whether Dixon helped him this time around or not, I firmly believe Membrey needed to do what he'd been doing before Dixon arrived.
As I said, when or IF he can fix Billings and McCartin with their set shots will be the real test

I never wait for media, do listen to coaches ( that's why they are there after all), each to there own, everyone has their place, even the Cowboys on here, I suppose!!!!!

Aren't the Saints 25.9 or something like that the past 2 weeks?
Something has gone right and hopefully the wheel has turned for the goal kicking issues. Fingers crossed Saints fans!!

Above the shoulders has been the go since, oh, maybe the caveman days, eh?
If Gronk the Neanderthal had a sharp stick, his only weapon against a large wild animal,
he needed to be brave and courageous so his aim was true.
I think Pies players and supporters can relate to Gronk, just quietly

Re: Ben "Dover" Dixon
Incorrect, Dixon does mentor Membrey.
But not sure if Dixon has changed any part of Tim's approach.

He called SEN and told them that he hadn't worked with Membrey because he was already a good kick when he arrived.

Re: Ben "Dover" Dixon
Looks like Dixon’s work is beginning to pay off. It was always going to take time.
He needs to put some more time into Paddy. A key forward’s worth is measured by his ability to convert IMO and this is holding him back.
It’s probably just a confidence issue, I think, as technically he has a good action. A nice bag of four or five could be the breakthrough he needs.

Re: Ben "Dover" Dixon
Ben Dixon (Oct 8, 2017):
Dixon said players would be made accountable to specific success rates at training to help deal with the mental pressures of goal kicking in game.
Dixon said he was confident the program would deliver results in 2018.
“Definitely we will see some improvement,” Dixon said. “I have got no doubt about that."
afl.com (today):
"The Saints set shot scoring accuracy of 53 per cent is the lowest of any side in the AFL and seven per cent below the league average."
This has been one of the major disappointments of the season for me and I hope Dixon is paid according to results.
