Nothing to do with Billy, this thread was about Hickey apparently dominating NicNat!!!!!

I just keep looking at the best players and can only wonder how unlucky Hickey was, cause I carnt seem to find he's name anywhere in the best players!!!!!

Case in point:

BEST
West Coast: Kennedy, Sheed, Gaff, Hurn, Naitanui, McGovern
St Kilda: Membrey, Sinclair, Steven, Ross, Weller, Clark

Also media votes for NicNat!!!!!

'Cause StoneCold Said So'!!!!!

We will be great again once Billy is back playing!!!!!

Won the clearances by 7 and centrebounce clearances by 5 against the best tap ruckman in the comp and ladder leaders on their home turf. I think that equates to a more than adequate performance from Hickey! :)

Who got the most clearances and the most contested possessions for the game for both sides?

Hickey was up against some serious talent last night. He more than held his own throughout the game.

I’m a former ruckman, which means my opinion is sacrosanct.

I can’t.

My giant ruckman muscles won’t allow it because I have so many muscles. I have the best muscles.

They are tremendous.

But don’t worry, I am going to make ruckman great again.

I think I would have been at Nick Nats level except for the fact I was a s*** ruckman Image

I don’t profess to have the insight of an AFL ruckman. I got to a certain level and that’s it. Still have a dent in my skull to prove it.

I will agree with ape man. Hickey was up against a very good ruck combination and did his job. Didnt kick goals and was generally average around the ground but never let them dominate him. He is better than Longer but would not make it into to many other teams as a first ruck.

Huge difference when the clearances go to our favour. Many of the bounces weren't that good and I reckon Natanui didn't get near some of these. Once good reason for keeping the bounce. Seriously still need work on around the ground clearances.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

The only negative was that Hickey had 6 free kicks paid against him - and Nic Nat was the beneficiary of this , got some cheap free kicks/"umpire" possessions added to his stat sheet. Hickey, on the other hand, earned every one of his possessions - they weren't gifted.

Nicnat was a "non-entity" in the area I've always considered him (and all other ruckman, actually) to be overrated in - and that's his hitouts - they were neither here nor there (in fact they were all over the shop). If you watch the game closely (as I do) you'll see some of his hitouts were to the clear advantage of our midfielders - and to the "disadavantage" of his team.
He can "win" as many of his magnificent hitouts as he likes - we won the clearances by 7, and that's as decisive as it gets (it doesn't get any better than that)!
The proof is in the pudding/clearances, as they say.

We just need a ruckman who competes well in the ruck (they don't need to win the hitout count) and then does well around the ground. Hickey does that.
He's definitely our best option - but, nowhere near as good as Grundy, of course (who averages 23 possessions around the ground - he's like an extra midfielder).

That female maggot couldn't bounce the ball even if her life depended on it. Didn't bother recalling it for a second bounce either. Not much point I suppose. 2nd wouldn't have been any better. Some things are just beyond the fairer sex.

I once purchased a washer & dryer combo from Jeff Sarau at the Good Guys making my ruck bonafide top class, so yes I am qualified to join the BFUSA & Stonecold ruck pissing contest and comment on Hickledik V Nic Nat

Whilst I prefer Hickledik to Longer, I agree with Stonefish that he is the least physical ruckman in the comp.
In the first half i actually thought Hickey was playing on Marshall they were at so many contests together.

Hickey had a superior second half but there were times in the first 1/4 he looked totally intimidated at the centre bounce facing Nic.

Hickey is 27 so i doubt there is little upside, but until Marshall develops or Longer learns some footy skills he's the best we have.

I still believe Longer would fit well at GWS were he could play a crash and bash role and be effective with their classy midfield.

So then Joffa, in your humble rucking opinion, is the thread headline correct then?????

Especially given I still cannot find Hickledik's name in the best players, still?????

PS. I hope you got a good few years out of the Combo!!!!! ;)

I once bought a pair of binoculars
(why is it "a pair" when it's made in one piece and you can't just buy one side at a time?)
from a Saints player,
so I am qualified to say that I cannot "see" why NicNat got any votes,
in fact I used the binoculars at the game.

Have you even watched footy in the last 8 years? 2nd bounce? Really? A recalled bounce is actually thrown-up ... and has been since 2009.

Cool story anyway bro.
