Glad we’re contesting this. Even if we get it reduced to one week. It shows that we are sick of being reamed by the AFL.

Key sticking point for me is they are prepared to accept Fyfe, Buddy etc can have accidents, but Carlisle ... nah, not him. He’s a dog, plus he plays for a club we don’t respect.

I'm glad they are contesting it. Backing our player.

But the AFL being the grubs that they are, and the Saints not being feared or respected, I fear that the two weeks will stand and the club will do it's 10 grand cold.

Then I would suggest the Court of Arbitration as a next step - and see if they don't uphold Precedent - seeing that our whole legal system is built upon it.

This has to be a line in the sand moment!!!!!

Ridiculous.
FFS
Twaddle.

Hardly even made contact.

Have a look at the replay. Probably knocked himself out on landing.

Just watched a reply of the incident.

It is abundantly clear that Riewoldt was concussed when his head hit his own knee. There is no way he was injured by Carlisle's sloppy spoiling attampt. Michael Christian (and Steven Hocking) you are turnips!

We need to bring in an expert witness (a doctor) to say that the most plausible explanation for Riewoldt's concussion was his own knee to his head.

Any fair hearing has to throw out the original decision by the MRP. 1 week, bulls***, he should be playing next week.

What's the chance our management has picked up on the knee knock?

Either way if they are thinking of using the Caddy (medium impact) hit as the precedent then they are using the wrong one if they want a reduced penalty - They need to use the Rance hit (low impact) as a precedent - go all the way not half way - push the boundaries and fight fire with fire

He 100% does not hit his own knee, not even close.

Making up crap to try get your guy off is no better than what you’re accusing the AFL of doing.

1 week sounds about right, I’m sure that’s what it will end up being.

So the 2 weeks is upheld and it's basically Saints getting shafted while Buddy Franklin, Fyfe, Mason Cox and other teams get away with no penalty. Let's make noise whenever we see other teams and other players infringe and we think those players are guilty. What is the point of not saying anything, if other clubs are not assisting us and if we are going to cop it then let's call those incidents for what they are.

The way we fight back is to speak out and embarrass the AFL everytime they make a wrong decision that favours players like Fyfe and Budddy Franklin when they have clearly done the wrong thing and they get off. Be annoying until we are treated equally. The CEO and the board needed to mention the Cox incident and the Fyfe knee and Buddy getting away with an incident that is an illegal head high hit that knocked out a player. Why don't they get on the offensive before they turn up? Why not be the antagonist and highlight the inconsistencies of the kangaroo court that is the AFL tribunal and MRP?

Agree, this narrative that he knocked himself on his knee makes us supporters seem delusional. He was knocked silly when Jake hit him, then was made worse how he landed. No malice in the play, just unlucky. Doesn’t mean that 2 weeks may be a bit too harsh for an accident.

Just ……..
No seriously just ……..

What the right royal f@rk!!!

I have held my tongue - but seriously!

Richo condemned Carlisle to his two weeks when he said that he was expecting a week - therefore the tribunal hears 'My man done f***ed up' and from there you cannot deny the high/high result.

THE ONLY DEFENCE WE HAD WAS 'NOTHING TO SEE HERE - MOVE ALONG'

We must appeal this - or stop looking for Free Agents, because who would want to come to a club where you can be knocked out one week, and then two weeks later go for a legitimate spoil which does not connect with the ball, but rather with a players head and get 2 weeks for it!

Remember that Paddy was knocked out by a hit to the face, which he did not even get a free for.
Remember Jake got a free paid against him for holding the ball while he was knocked out.
Remember Burton knocked Higgins into next week and we were told that the action was within the bounds of the game therefore it was okay
Remember Cox chose to bump to the head region and could have damaged the neck - but this action is Okay

If what Jake did was against the laws of the game then I look forward to every spoil next week being pinged for incorrectly playing our 'great' game

But we will just shut up and take it!

Free Jake!!

The AFL runs itself a bit like the Queensland justice system..

Put an indigenous kid and a public schoolboy before the courts and guess which one gets gaol time while the other one gets a slap on the wrist.

Now guess which one Carlisle gets treated like.

I think I've found the problem with the coaching staff - they are legally blind. It also seems to afflict a number of posters here.

The club argued that the strike should be downgraded from high to medium impact. Given that he was knocked out, I guess his head would need to have been severed for high impact.

Arguing that, in the past, our players have suffered similar blows without the culprit being suspended for two weeks is a rationalisation. Rightly or wrongly, the system is that the outcome of the contact determines punishment - not the act. So, the same reckless act which misses the head or contacts the body will get no punishment, but hit the head and knock someone out and you'll get two weeks. Intent is another step up.

Stevie Wonder can see his head didn’t touch his knee. If you’re trying to think of ways to get him off at least have them based in reality.

Believe it or not, you can support St Kilda and be objective at the same time. Some around here think these things are mutually exclusive

What is mm hat?

Is it hippie jargon or subliminal advertising?

A code name for the latest designer drug or a cheap ugly truckers hat?

Agree on the premise of appeal, but the reality is that jake himself was knocked out and missed a while second game from an act that was completely avoidable...

At least this instance was a mid air collision, where the merits of a "reasonable attempt to spoil" could be argued within the context of the play.

The problem with punishinment based on injury outcome is that it doesn't really discourage players from doing so again when 80% of the time the recipient isn't knocked out.

The inconsistencies and character favouritism in our game are an embarrassment... imagine trying to educate soneone new to the game and trying to explain the difference between rances hit on Breust vs what Carlisle did. They are virtually identical, only one of the recipients has a slightly harder/thicker skull...

The look away spoil = a dead set giveaway and reckless, no....stupid!
High contact = got him in the head but only cause he couldnt get to the ball in time
High impact = couldn't return to field, he probably could have but you know OHS and all.
2 weeks.

The game is officially f***ed. I almost hate watching modern football. Might go to the local footy this weekend just for a taste of reality.

I would have spent half my career suspended under these rules.
