Richo’s 100th game as coach
He coached Port for 1 game included in the figure (I assume a loss).
Dear Lord help us if he coaches 150 for us!

Finnis or Summers said that the guys who are letting the club down, are the ones in the 50-100 games bracket

Err coach is a big part of the problem.
How you could say otherwise beggars belief.

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
It would set us back the 45 minutes it would take him to clear his desk.
- Multiple players are worse players than when they joined the club.
- The game plan changes from month to month from creeping around the boundaries to gunning through the centre. But all plans involve hitting long balls to the top of the square.
- We cannot defend kick-ins after opposition behinds. Despite the fact we kick the most behinds in the league.
- We clear the ball from behinds by kicking long to contests up the line. Either immediately or after one kick to the pocket. Every time.
- Switching the play to the other flank only to find no players on that side of the ground. How often...?
- Players are living their childhood dream, earning huge wages and still look like they don't enjoy their job.
- Selection is a shambles. Armitage is selected injured for 4 weeks we are told. After the last match is specifically praised after the match. 8 possesions, 5 clangers. And is then dropped. And then plays for Sandy and has 40-odd possessions.
So is he injured and being slected or out of form for weeks and being selected? Either answer is disturbing.
- Onfield management is a shambles. Watching Blake Acres ruck the centre bounce in a match where both Hickey and Marshall are selected. Acres in now out being 'managed'.
- Kids have not had games put in to them by a, supposedly, development oriented coach. And the team has barely looked like making finals in five seasons. It looks like he's been protecting his 30ish per cent win ratio...
Go back and watch the Ed Phillips debut video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn1Lnl2eM7w
"Our footy club is 144 years old... we've won one flag...."
How often does this get mentioned? Why does it get mentioned on a players debut? Well done for getting a game at this shite club....
How motivational. No wonder the belief has been drained out of the club.

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
Paddy's concussion issues
Roberton's heart issue
Bruce's back injury
Koby Steven's concussion issues
Acres groin injury
Long's broken foot
Are all of these players health and injury concerns Richo's fault?
There are many more on the injured list but these are big outs and the more important players to our future.
Buckley has had the same problem with injuries over the past few seasons and there were calls for a "circuit breaker", aka sacking last year. Now the Pies are looking like playing finals. That wouldn't have been possible if they sacked Bucks last year. They'd current be trying to reconnect the circuit which usually first involves the marketing department trying to raise expectations and the new coach trying to work out where the coffee machine and toilets are.

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
I assume this is a joke? On what possible basis would it set us back a decade? It wouldn't set us back at all except financially which is the only reason he will stay. The game plan isn't working, fact. Most players are not coming along in their development, fact. Our basic skills are atrocious, fact. These are all the role of the coaching staff.
The sooner he goes the sooner we can turn the ship around. In fact keeping him will set us back years

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
Where were you when we played North Melbourne? We got smashed after an insipid display and North were coming off a loss to the Gold Coast, so their confidence was down where as we were coming off a win. The win propelled their season forward and we are still playing as badly as we did in that game.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Tue 29 May 2018 12:22pm Paddy's concussion issues

All these players were fit and this was a showcase game for the St Kilda football club. The buck stops with the head coach.
As far as your example of Collingwood is concerned...seriously!??!! Are you comparing Ross, Steven, Armo, Dunstan and Steele with their mids? Bucks inherited a relatively young GF team and took them to the bottom part of the ladder. He's extremely lucky to still be there

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
I am not sure why people keep saying that we need to keep Richo because of the money it would cost us?
Surely we are losing 100-200K PLUS EVERY SINGLE WEEK we only get 17,000 instead of 35,000 because we are playing like CRAP!
It would not take many weeks to recoup the amount of the payout with some reasonable crowds drawn in by the curiosity to see the new game plan, etc.
I see ZERO benefit in keeping Richo - it is painful to watch and we seem to have little to no motivation to change anything. No wonder people aren't turning up.

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
So we are that good of a team and we are advanced enough in our development that we can afford to lose as many key players as we have and for it to not be the reason to cause any instability. Absolutely we should still be expected to be travelling well and pushing for finals. What was I thinking.

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
Tell us what you expected with the Good Friday match against North? This was the game that we were expected to showcase where we'd come in Richo's time. We didn't have the injuries you speak of for this Round 2 match.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Tue 29 May 2018 1:59pm So we are that good of a team and we are advanced enough in our development that we can afford to lose as many key players as we have and for it to not be the reason to cause any instability. Were you expecting a win like most Saints fans were? Most opposition fans, most of the betting agencies and most experts had us as clear favourites.
Just like I don't want a coach who rewards poor performance in a player, I also don't want a club rewarding a coach who has performed poorly. Richo chose to keep Dunstan out of the team when he may have perhaps been the difference in some of our early matches. Richo had his pet Billings in the team for 3 weeks in a row following poor performances

Re: Richo’s 100th game as coach
I expected a win against North based on preseason expectations of both clubs.
North has had a good run since, we haven't, significant injuries and health issues to key players hasn't helped.
You take out the same amount of key players out of North since that game and does North have the same good run? Highly doubtful.
In actual fact you take out a key back, a key forward and a key mid out of thier side and they are probably only one win in front of us.

ed philips 'probably our most in form player'? - surely he would deserved a shot in a losing team crippled by injuries before becoming our most in form?
every time i see richo speak publicly i wonder whether his slow drawl reflects a slow mind. you'd hope he balances that by thinking well before he speaks.
