The Iraqi War had a famous Iraqi general, Chemical Ali was his nickname.
He famously stood in front of a TV camera saying Iraq would repel the US invasion, it's all sweet,
while in the background, Baghdad Airport was being over-run by a massive group of US soldiers
and the Iraqi soldiers were laying down their guns and giving up.
Chemical Ali.

Re: Lethlean admits St Kilda’s expectations “have to be” realigned
Lol definitely some chemical Ali in that Lethlean read
The longer this goes the more to me it becomes about a Board scrambling to cover its ass for extending a senior coach when they didn’t have the evidence to support that extension and it’s gone pear shaped now - they just can’t sack him because that decision has them wedded to him. So what do you do? Put it ALL at the feet of 30-50 game players.....really?
Sure, some of them ain’t delivering but good clubs ask why - they work out what. Billings needs to become elite.....not hide behind bad decisions with younger players as scape goats
And how the ferk does Armo etc escape scrutiny??
This review, early days, looks internally staged to appease the masses.....again, listen to your supporters u fools

A history lesson and and a chemical ali reference as an analogy for the saints season is truly stupendous.

Oh don't worry, I've re-aligned my expectations alright...problem is, I didn't have any at the start of this season!

Re: Lethlean admits St Kilda’s expectations “have to be” realigned
IMO the difficulty administrations face, especially with clubs like ours is the need to get the balance right between marketing, which involves raising expectations, and the reality of what can be delivered. Speaking personally I thought our chances of making the 8 this year were a 50/50 chance and in the back of my mind I felt that if it turned out we were going to miss then I'd preferr we spend the year wisely with regards to development and dare I say it, pick up a high DP on the way through. This type of thinking is underpinned by the belief that we've still got a core of players with potential, albeit still in need of development, and the coach is still the best option to provide them development.
The worst option for our club right now is to revert to type and eat our own and demand mass sackings and throw the baby out with the bath water. Ironically mass sackings would set us back 10 years IMO. If there is one thing we can learn from Richmond and it is how they are also known for eating thier own yet they resisted reverting to type in 2016 and the outcome is now history.
Who knows, this year could be a significant contribution to a flag, moreso than had we just made the 8 and go out in W1, which was more than likely the reality of how far we could have gone this year. In hindsight makimg the 8 this year would have meant we exceeded expectations.

My expectation of the club is that they stop talking s*it by resorting to corporate jargon. The future starts now, and those who have spent at least 5 years getting the club to the hopeless state it is in right now, need their careers realigned out the door.

Can we please all refrain from comparing our situation to Richmond’s in 2016.
In case no one is aware, they made the finals the 3 previous years to 2016.
It gives me the shytes the amount of times this comes up.
Richo has delivered us NO FINALS.

Come on Simon, is this best you can do?
50 – 100 game players not stepping up ….. really!
Give me a freakin spell.
Now I may not be some AFL exec getting paid the big bucks, but I aint no schmuck you have taken out for dinner.
There are few things I take exception too with your dribble.
The first thing is; it is definitely not the players fault.
My understanding, and it is a damn good one if I don’t say so myself, is that role of the coach, is well ….. um ….. to actually coach.
To teach, inspire, direct and motivate.
I don’t see to much of that happening at the moment. How on earth can a group go backwards so quickly. Obviously there is problem there. Obviously that particular department are not doing their job. A good old saying is that a tradesman doesn’t blame their tools. Have heard of that on have you Simon?
What about admin, where is the accountability, where is the connection. What the hell are they doing Simon …. Handing out participation medals to make the players feel better about themselves ….. put a request into the AFL asking that the scores no longer be displayed on the screens because it is not about the result, its just about taking part?
What are doing about engaging the members again, how about that huh ….. or would you rather play a theme match proclaiming land rights for gay whales who may or may not be a whale but could be a dolphin.
This club is becoming a joke …. You can spruik all the shite you want.
I for one aint copping it.

They also had an amazing run without injuries and they had stability in admin and the coaching department. We've got stability in admin although there has probably been a bit of distraction with the move back to Mooraabin, and we've had stability in the coaching departnent. They also had stability in the playing group with the core of thier list having developed together over many seasons.degruch wrote: ↑Wed 23 May 2018 11:15amSo...they finished a couple spots above us and won just as many finals?saintspremiers wrote: ↑Wed 23 May 2018 11:12am Can we please all refrain from comparing our situation to Richmond’s in 2016.

We've been significantly impacted by injuries, especially this year, and to key structural players and IMO I think our players haven't got the maturity yet to overcome such adversity, the group probably still havent adjusted to Roo and Joey being there in such times.
So I can see what Lethlean means when he says our 50-100 game players haven't stepped up. They haven't lost the talent they had this time last year when we beat GWS and made Richmond look VFL standard. They are still on a learning curve IMO and holding your nerve could be the key.

Hey Einstein they actually finished 5th one of those years with a 15-7 H&A record. Their issue was mental softness when playing finals.degruch wrote: ↑Wed 23 May 2018 11:15amSo...they finished a couple spots above us and won just as many finals?saintspremiers wrote: ↑Wed 23 May 2018 11:12am Can we please all refrain from comparing our situation to Richmond’s in 2016.

Re: Lethlean admits St Kilda’s expectations “have to be” realigned
Dunno - Im not seeing it just yet. Not sure about laying the blame at the feet of the playing group.
Ok so some players haven't stepped up to fill the gap left by Roo and Monty. Shouldn't we have leadership development programs in place to ensure that there is always a next generation of leaders coming through ?.
We got told that Richo was a great development coach - yet if anything this list has gone backwards. I think Membery is the perfect case study - he was one of the best kicks for goal weve have had in nearly 20 years - now a blubbering mess. Its all mental - confidence, mental noise, belief - all things that a good coach helps manage. It reminds me of Tim Watson to be honest - players have no confidence in any of the systems in place.
If there is not major change at the end of the year , I fear the damage will be irreversible.

Clearly the CE) and President have a differing view to Lethlean, this garbage from Finnis today.
https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-20 ... d22c89d329
Bottom line is Summers, Finnis and Richo all need to be moved on immediately, who can pull this off?
New President and 3 new board members need to come on, not a board spill.
Lethlean to be appointed CEO immediately.
Kingsley to take over coaching and audition in the job for the remainder of the season.

if someone at the club finds out,
you'll end up like that lady in Mexico who used a pseudonym
and published locations of drug deals- so Joe Public could avoid said locations
in case any bang bang happened.
Sadly, one or more of the cartels
murdered the poor lady, and left a large note on her,
quoting her nic, showing they had tracked her down,
and warned others not to mess with them.

Re: Lethlean admits St Kilda’s expectations “have to be” realigned
One thing I agree with Finnis on is that we don't need a complete rebuild of the List and quite frankly we're in a world of sh*t if I'm wrong about that. Some major tinkering with the List and reviewing of recruitment priorities is definitely in order.jaxons wrote: ↑Wed 23 May 2018 4:56pm Clearly the CE) and President have a differing view to Lethlean, this garbage from Finnis today.

All this use of the term Top 4 team in 2018, 2020 or whenever is pointless. The burning question is, do we have the nucleus of a List that can challenge for a Premiership at some stage?
Kingsley has been there longer than Richo, how do we know he isn't the problem or part of it? I am also concerned that the Club will take the easy & cheap option and appoint Kingsley if he has moderate success in his short tenure and not seriously consider other options. If the Club decide to move Richo on, then all the Coaches need to go, unless it is found that Richo just ignores them and doesn't work with them. If that were the case, then it should have been dealt with a long time ago. I'd prefer any caretaker not to be in line for the full time job.
How would there be changes to the Board? I assume that member(s) would call for an Extraordinary General Meeting? Am I right on that?
