Who can we target in trade period to add to our list.
Armed with only 1st round draft pick followed by a 4th rounder how can we rebuild/ add to the list?
Whats our strategy?
loads of cash just no trade currency........
Do we downgrade our first rounder.....
Do we look at clubs with excess midfield players not getting a game
Do we look at untried players with potential?
Do will offer lifelines to all the desisted free agents
Do we give something to get something. Who will be the sacrificial lamb???
Gee its going to be interesting..........

Get rid of Trout.
Leverage Billings, Steven, Ross, Bruce, Hickey, et all to get back into the draft.
At least two second rounders if not three.
Roll the dice again.
They all play seniors next year.....

Re: Who can we target in trade period to add to our list.
free agents, we simply have to make a play for gaff, atley,Dahlhaus, mitch wallis and sloan as fa's. Maybe even menzel and duryea. Not sure how many if any we can get or what the rules are as to the amount of fa's you can trade in.
Have to make a play for de geoy or any gun midfielder who is out of contract but somehow keep our first round pick, no idea how this can be done without clever trading of some sort.

We could do with some of the running type outside players that Essendon seem to possess and they could do with some of our inside mids. On the other hand, maybe we just offer Billings to them for a first round draft pick and see what they say?

Settle for a Kia Stinger .
Goes just as good as most of the above, better than some, for a fraction of the price

Re: Who can we target in trade period to add to our list.
Adrian Dedodo would tell us they'll give us a 3 round pick for Billings, take it or leave it, after posturing for 6 days we'd take it, we are Dedodo's bitch.... again.Scollop wrote:We could do with some of the running type outside players that Essendon seem to possess and they could do with some of our inside mids. The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Who can we target in trade period to add to our list.
Dedoro can get flowered.
There are many other clubs there. If the trade is not worth it, then don't do it...
The last thing we have to do is help out all the other clubs.
Be bold and make something happen. If we don't get our shyte together on field this year, then this rebuild is a 70% bust.
I think we have one untouchable on our list: Jake Carlisle.
We have cooked a #1 draft pick. Done. It is gone for very little return. On top of this, our draft positioning is far from ideal for where we really are. Our strategy or plan has failed. The lack of second round picks this year is not ideal at all.
We have a bunch of half backs that should be worth a second rounder, or perhaps a third and a player. Everything should be examined.
Clubs do not utilise the trading period enough.

Re: Who can we target in trade period to add to our list.
Put the following up for trade and if we get any offers that would improve our draft position (within reason) take it
Newnes
Savage
Webster
Armitage
Longer
Hickey
Dunstan
Weller
McKenzie
Gilbert
We could potentially land a late first rounder for Dunstan (nothing against him, I just think we have too many of his type and Steele will be better)
Gilbert, Armitage, McKenzie types could get us a third rounder back when traded with a fourth rounder
Newnes could get us a late second round pick
Webster mid second round
Weller could get us a somewhat decent pick or upgrade
Hickey or Longer would be worth a late second rounder to a need in need of a ruck
I say we take a brutal approach during trade week offloading players for draft picks and then offer an unreasonable amount of money to any elite free agents (Lynch, Sloane, Gaff, McGovern). No more trading out draft picks for fringe players. Trade out our fringe players for draft picks and see if we can't manage to have 4-5 picks in the first 3 rounds.
These are the guys I think will be good players going forward, we need to fill in the gaps with draftees and free agents. Hopefully some others currently on the list can step up as well but we can't keep sitting on our hands waiting for it to happen. Some on the current list will certainly stay on as reasonable depth options but those I left out probably aren't good enough to be in the best 22 of a finals side.
B: Roberton, ???, Geary
HB: Coffield, Carlisle, White
C: ???, Steele, Acres
HF: Billings, ???, Gresham
F: Long, ???, Membrey
Foll: ???, Steven, Ross
Int: Clark, Sinclair, ???, ???
Would love to fill in the FB, wing and CHF spots with McGovern, Gaff and Lynch but to do that we'd probably need to pay them half of our salary cap.

Armitage, Gilbert, McKenzie, Lonie, Goddard, Wright, Minchington, Pierce, Longer and Weller should all be delisted at the end of the year, as they’re either finished or not worth a cold pie to us or anyone else.

I would say there's a good chance Gilbert will hang up the boots at the end of the year anyway. I agree we have to trade aggressively and see what we can get but make sure the deal is a win, win scenario.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Free Agents - no draft picks required - just $s
- Gaff 700k p/a
- Dahlhaus 500k p/a
De Goey 800k p/a for 5 years plus a 3rd rounder swapped for 3 players in positions that they need e.g. McCartin, Goddard types
Keep 1st Round draft pick
- Gaff 700k p/a
- Dahlhaus 500k p/a
De Goey 800k p/a for 5 years plus a 3rd rounder swapped for 3 players in positions that they need e.g. McCartin, Goddard types
Keep 1st Round draft pick

Don't agree re Armo, Goddard or Minch.
Can't delist 10 players when you have only one draft pick in the first 60 ffs.

Re: Who can we target in trade period to add to our list.
Dylan Sheil reportedly wants home to Vic but contracted until end 2019.
Will Setterfield has lots of family and friends in Melbourne.
Only saint of interest to GWS could be Longer as he is better than they have in the ruck.
Our first pick #1-3 this season and first & second round picks next season + Longer for Sheil & Setterfield with their first rounder this year coming back say #17. (3 picks + Longer for Sheil, Setterfield and their first pick this year).
GWS #17 plus Billings to Essendon for their first round pick likely top ten and their second round pick.
Essendon first round pick (top 10) to Collingwood for DeGoey.
Gaff + Dahlhaus + McGovern as free agents.
In - Sheil, Setterfield, DeGoey, Gaff, Dahlhaus, McGovern.
Out - Longer, Billings, 1st round this year, first and second next year and a s*** load of cash for fee agents.
