Health issues, slow, cant jump, no agility, poor set shot for goal & obese. Cut our losses & trade for whatever we can get. Own the mistake of taking him with pick 1, sack Trout who will never work in the AFL industry ever again. Time to move on from this abortion.

Re: McCartin Concern
Huge challenge for the medical staff. His parents must be very concerned. Hope for all concerned his particular situation is getting better understood. Maybe six games on two off is the sort of pattern he needs. Certainly another big forward is essential to take the heat off him and for his RDOs. Perhaps one lesson is don't let the recruiters make medical judgments. And if in doubt take the next pick. Really hope he comes good, but.

Re: McCartin Concern
So many complications and issues with Paddy.
With #1 pick we should have just picked up the best available mid and passed over Paddy - his size, fitness and health issues were always going to be a risk.
We are and will continue to pay the price for that poor piece of risk management!

By some miracle we make it into a grand final.
Head clash.
Same outcome again.
Another 50 years.
We have to win our way into the grand final without him or win the grand final without him.
He won't be available for a full final series.
We need to start winning without him now.

Father in Law Billy on TFS said Paddy “is not good” and is seeing a. Concussion expert. For someone who likes to talk things up a fair bit, it’s concerning

In the 2014 draft those recruiters picked McCartin at No1 and then Hugh Goddard at 21 and Daniel McKenzie at 22 then Jack Lonie at 41.
Remember those 3 picks in the top 22 were supposed to set the club up for our next tilt at a premeiership.
Wow, he may never make it as a good AFL player but the best pick from that year was Jack Lonie .

No part of me believes that. Almost certain it's delayed concussion and he's going to be out for a significant period and should probably retire to protect his health.Jacks Back wrote:For whiplash? not good news for the lad. unlikely he'd retire and forego his contract. can't see him earning anything like similar coin in the next few years in any other job - hope he has a good financial manager and has invested well.

Re: McCartin Concern
I won't complain about the Goddard pick as he was touted as a potential number one pick early on and showed real promise in his first season before injuries seem to have stalled and potentially killed his career, but even as an armchair critic I would have picked better with our other three picks than our professional recruiting staff. I would not have hesitated in taking Petracca, Touk Miller and Caleb Daniel with the picks we used on McCartin, McKenzie and Lonie. Petracca was clearly the best player available at pick one and McCartin's health issues and lack of athleticism clearly meant he was a flawed prospect. McKenzie has never demonstrated an ability to win the ball consistently at any level and Lonie doesn't have the extreme smarts or skills to make up for his lack of size which Daniel clearly always had. And Miller was a case of recruiters outsmarting themselves again and overlooking the tough mid who racks up possessions, uses it well and has speed because he's slightly on the smaller side - instead we went with the athletic utility who can't get find the ball.ace wrote:Yorkeys wrote:In the 2014 draft those recruiters picked McCartin at No1 and then Hugh Goddard at 21 and Daniel McKenzie at 22 then Jack Lonie at 41.

Re: McCartin Concern
I hope paddy does end up recovering from these head knocks and you can't fault his courage to attack the ball. Watching the game however, he attacks the ball with his head, and I am starting to think whether he actually has a brain. Almost like watching a caveman, he genuinely throws his head towards the ball. Now this may be seen as courage, however you are no good to your team being injured all the time, and Paddy is to blame for a lot of this. He isn't smart about where he puts his head, you can still be courageous and not lead with your head.
The tackle where he knocked heads with someone made me throw my hands up in the air LITERALLY. If you watch the replay you can see he was the whole reason it occurred in the first place, and had he tackled properly we wouldn't be having this discussion again and again.
