Re: Freeman is set to return
Glad he got thru a game but a long way off from the sounds of the people where actually there. Hope he gets better and quickly as the kid deserves some luck for a change and it would be great to see him play

Re: Freeman is set to return
I don't know about a long way off, whilst I'd agree not in a week or two. He hasn't played since about July last year, has had a disrupted pre-season, but comes in and gets it a lazy 31 times in a team that got thrashed. He's finding the footy easily it seems, just needs a bit of run in the legs.DJ Higgins wrote:Glad he got thru a game but a long way off from the sounds of the people where actually there. Re: Freeman is set to return
happy to be proven wrong and I hope you are right but from all report he got a lot of stats that didn't mean a lot. I hope he comes good but I would be surprised if he plays in the next monthLinton Lodger wrote:I don't know about a long way off, whilst I'd agree not in a week or two. Re: Freeman is set to return
If he holds up next week, then just get him into the seniors for a game against his old mates, the guy deserves to say he played an AFL game after the work he has put in.

Settle down Stinger and Teffers.
Wait a month and if Freeman is still up and going he may debut come mid June

Re: Freeman is set to return
I'm going to laugh my head off at the posters on here that have been predicting Freeman's demise at seasons end when he starts to light up Etihad.
And I said "when", not "if"
One or two starting to backtrack already.
Typical.

I don’t understand why we wait? So he can injure himself on a poorer quality ground?
Because we have so many players in form keeping him out?
Get him in I say? What have we got to lose?

It was his first game back, mate, give him a chance. He will no doubt be sore and tired so let him stay in the VFL until he is ready for AFL.MC Gusto wrote:I don’t understand why we wait? So he can injure himself on a poorer quality ground?

I didn't expect him to ever play AFL so this will be a pleasant surprise but from what I have seen of him last year he wasn't a stand out at VFL level. I may head to Trevor Barker oval this Sunday to watch him live to get a better idea how he is really going

Cant stand this recurring Freeman story...biggest ‘non event’ story!! A total distraction for the club, by the club. We have so msuch bigger issues to be focusing on/getting reported on! Hate that the club is using it to deflect focus on our disastrous predicament!

Re: Freeman is set to return
I am all for putting him in immediately as it might fire the team up and inspire them having a guy in for his first match that has been through so much
It might be the trigger they need
Unfortunately though we will play it safe - unlikely that we will look outside the box for inspiration

Re: Freeman is set to return
if he is fully fit and form warrants it i'd like to see him in in rnd 12 - home game saturday night vs the swans.
the. a game against the suns, then our break. we'll hopefully have a few players back and be a bit stronger by then.
don't want his first game to be outside of melbourne - he deserves a home crowd if he actually makes it.
and needs to earn his spot.

I agree to some extent - but then its about being responsible by the club. The increase in pace, pressure and physical demand of an AFL would be immense. If he did get injured after looking like rushing him, the blame would be front and centre at the club!
Give him a few weeks to get some touch - but then if form warrants it, get him in. At least gets him a game and better than half the current team anyways!

Yeah let’s rush him back this week in Perth against Freo.
So what if he absolutely shreds his hammy again and can barely walk?
God some people are down right stupid

The kid deserves a bit of publicity just for effort.

Indeed, the kid needs fitness and match practice.stonecold wrote:Maybe more than one there Drakeo!!!!!Supt. Chalmers wrote:One more good game at Sandy and we roll the dice!
Also, one game after this week would be a debut against Collingwood on a Saturday night. While that may have a romantic feel about it, imagine the pressure on young Nath. And imagine if he were to reinjure himself (a fair chance the way we're going this year ) in front of those ferals!
Nah, let him put together a solid body of work in the VFL and then look to slide him in at the appropriate time.

Re: Freeman is set to return
Just had a look and he does!
Broke out of a few packs with some speed - much different to I remember a few of his games where like at the start of last year.
Exciting!
Re: Freeman is set to return
Stop being sensible, Doc and SC! Time for some romance and emotion. We need something to fire our season, if only to make us a more attractive destination by the end of the year. If AR keeps going as he is, he is doomed. Freeman can play alright. A gun if we get him up and running. Too good for the VFL. Agreed, we can't put him on the plane this week, but when is the right time after that? I believe this kid is a special case. Exactly what we need right now.

Re: Freeman is set to return
At least 3 or 4 more VFL performances.
Then if all is well give him a shot in the seniors.
A bit of a positive story would not go astray this year.
