I think people forget how brutal a sport AFL is to play week in and week out.
Geez you are just an apologist aren’t you? Or trying to create a fight again perhaps?

Why would you “manage” one of our only shining lights?

It’s not like the selection committee have any clue what they are doing. That has been evident all season by persisting with
Greshem and Newnes regardless of their form, and not recalling an in form Marshall after one week off with concussion.

It doesn’t make sense Parkey. Not one bit. And please don’t spin us fairytales that it does.
I think the fairytales are in the conspiracy theories in this thread, grasping at excuses to criticise Richo.

Acres had almost the least game time in the team last week, so I'd guess that he sustained a minor injury or was experiencing tightness. That tightness or whatever may have continued into his training, so given that we are playing on a hard and fast track, it was decided that we'd be risking an injury if he played. Or he missed a lot of training, meaning he couldn't be considered to play.

These are far more PLAUSIBLE explanations than some of the conspiracy theories bandied about in this thread. Why the f**k would they say he is been managed if they'd dropped him?

Then we have the "he injured himself playing in the Ruck and its Richo's fault" brigade. I read quite a valid post over at Big Footy that said, "if Acres needs a rest because he contested about 10 ruck duals, then we now know why they don't run him through the midfield." Every team in the competition except one or two are playing with 1 ruckman with a smaller midfiled type relieving.

Just say he’s injured, is not that hard.

Injuries vary enormously in severity.

Because he's not injured and they don't want to risk injuring him or he was injured missed training, is no longer injured, but missed too much training to play. Tightness isn't an injury, but can escalate to an injury.

Well, if you say so.

However could you not say that he would not even be in this situation had he not repeatedly been played out of position?

So the coaches are either genius for resting him.

Or a pack of freakin morons for risking him in the first place.

I'm surprised they haven't started on the Recruiters over Roberton!

s***! Trout should've had him examined by a Heart Specialist!

We would be playing him in a back pocket probably...

He's not injured. He's just a bit sore and beat up. Has been since the Geelong game. Been on a modified training program.

Or he could have just been “managed” as Tom Hickey famously was early last season after a terrific 2016. Hardly seen after that.

You see there are different shades of being “managed”.

Maybe they should stop playing him in the ruck and play him as a normal midfielder

Sore and beat up enough to not be playing equals injured. Just call it that. Or call it dropped. It’s one or the other and the club should spare us the bulls***

You do realize that ruckmen train to perfect their craft and techniques as to avoid the injuries that can come from jumping into each other?

If so, you should probably realize that neither Bruce nor Blake have probably spent much time being able to perfect the same craft?

Some people who claim to have a rather large understanding of the game miss some very important details.

I don't think Blake has been dropped. I do believe they are managing a niggle. I also fully suspect that he is having to manage said niggles as a result of jumping into and wrestling with beasts 20kg heavier than him. To say that "we know why he doesn't run through the middle if he can't handle the ruck" is absolutely, 100% naive and just plain absurd... Not to mention as far from "valid" as I can fathom. Anyone, I mean anyone, who has played the game and half understands would get a real chuckle out of that.

And then there's Josh Bruce's hip. Maybe coincidence. Maybe not...

That's what you get for playing someone in the ruck who's I'll equipped for the task. It's a brutal game, rucking. I feel for the kid. Poor management again. They've got form with McCartin.

Does Blake even do centre bounces? I can only remember him taking throw ins and around the ground ball ups, neither of which have ruckmen jumping into each other.

Feel like everyone on here is jumping at shadows, if the kid isn't right, let's play someone who is. The alternative is something like Mav last year, where we kept playing him even though he wasn't right, and he didn't get any better.

I may have missed it, but I do not recall Acres been knocked around in Ruck duals and have rarely seen him contest centre bounces. I don't think he's expected to go out of his way to win hit outs.

Just about every team with the exception of 1 or 2 are doing it.

Also, just about every other team is kicking like s***, around the field and for goal.

Tony74 has indicated he sustained the knocks in the Geelong game. I don't recall him rucking in that game, both Hickey and Marshall played. He may have in the second half after Marshall was injured, if so, who else could've done the job? Jack Lonie?

yeah thats ok Tony but most of us know that "general soreness" places you on the injury list -
Parkey is just playing the semantics game
Good teams may "rest" a star player against crappy opposition if the schedule allows it - maybe thats the real story here we are a GOOD side looking towards finals

It blows my mind that such staunch supporters of the club see no issue with Blake being played the way he is. Wow
