That is a free kick. The umpire missed it.

Given we only needed a point maybe Jack should have run a few more steps and blazed instead of trying to deliver a pinpoint pass?

Re: Carlisle free kick
I was more pissed with the failure of the maggots to enforce the 50 metres for infringement of the protected zone.
Membry takes a mark inside 50 on the boundary.
Heath Shaw runs through the protected area from behind Membry to take up the mark.
50 metres every day except with these maggots.
50 metres puts Membrey in the goal square directly in front.

I've said this before. Not sure if anyone else has observed this.
Today was another occasion where we bought into the hype, went in complacent and vastly underestimated our opposition. It has happened many times since we became a decent side and cost us a victory today. It's stupid foolishness and Leon needs to stop it.
Also if Cameron had kicked straighter.
Rough umpiring Sainters, a couple of non calls and we got away with some stuff we shouldn't have.
And this from a Geelong flair wearer:

At that point - if the ball is 'dropped' then 75% of the marks paid in AFL would be 'dropped'.degruch wrote:How's the comment from Steve Mason...what a dick! The rules aren't that hard to comprehend, surely?Sainter_Dad wrote:bigcarl wrote:

If you know the rules, it is not even arguable. It was a free kick every day of the week. Unless you are a St Kilda player, that is.

+1. I wonder if the situation was reversed, would the umpires have given GWS a free Kick?saynta wrote:bigred wrote:kosifantutti wrote:Bernard Shakey wrote:kosifantutti wrote:Yes he missed the mark. It still should have been a free.

Re: Carlisle free kick
Like I’ve said previously, I couldn’t pick a free in real time or on the replay.
At a different angle though, it definitely seems like a free was there.
I do disagree with the consensus that it was a free everyday of the week, as I do think defenders are often allowed a bit of leaniancy when it comes to those contests.
But let’s say for arguments sake that it would be a free 9 times out of 10. I would also say that 9 times out of 10, free or no free, Carlisle marks! He has the best pair of hands in the team and he would normally have no trouble clunking that. Yes, he worked his butt off and was spent at the end, so no surprise he couldn’t take it one clean grab, but that’s just football.

Re: Carlisle free kick
Of course it should have been a free. But it was not called - like so many are not called. And just because some of us are paranoid about prejudicial umpiring doesn't mean they are not out to get us. There is a strong body of evidence to the hypothesis that umps as a matter of course penalise the Saints/lower sides by the either making or not making decisions. GWS must succeed for the AFL. That doesn't have to be a direct instruction just a well known umpy career improver. While we are losing and broke it will ever be thus I fear, so you start about 3 goals behind in practical terms. Not so? Well surely everyone laughed when that free was paid for two Giants colliding - that shows latent bias. These umps are only human, apparently.

That was against Savage for edging Cameron out of it. I disagreed with the decision but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the Carlisle one.Yorkeys wrote:Well surely everyone laughed when that free was paid for two Giants colliding - that shows latent bias. These umps are only human, apparently.

But as you say Carlisle prob should have marked............
Steven disposal was the biggest error..............jake had separation from opponent............just needed a dinky kick (robert harvey like) so jake could have marked
easily
