Changes next week
Here's what I'd like to see, I'm no AFL coach but I can't be much worse than the current lot right
Newnes out. Can't kick, makes poor decisions.
Bring Clark in and put him and Sinclair on opposite wings.
This is going to upset a few people here as Mav is a whipping boy, but chuck Mav in for Lonie. (EDIT: I read this before seeing his VFL performance - he should get a game IMO)+
Yes Mav also is a fairly rushed and ordinary kick, but he seems like the sort of bloke that would rev his teammates up, and give a bit of a spray when needed.
Someone that actually cares about the result and can make others care, as it seems like few others on the team do.
Keep the Marshall forward thing going. It has the potential to work well IF we can start kicking well.
Hickey was also fairly decent against admittedly terrible opposition in Stanley, but him and Marshall could be a solid duo.
What changes would you make?

Re: Changes next week
We need richo and the game plan out. We only average 8 goals a game this season (boosted by 16 in round 1 against the lions). New players isn’t going to solve this.
Having said that how we didn’t play battle today and expected to compete with just paddy as a key forward is a joke.

He would have to be better than Lonie who has shown us on many occasions that he is not AFL standard.longtimesaint wrote:He would have tpfelix wrote:We used to win when MAV was playing ..no harder man around ...when he is on it..

Go to the votes thread, he was definitely in our top 5 players because he tries really hard and that's a good thing in spite of the rubbish turnovers.lang wrote:still dont understand how Geary is Captain!!!

Re: Changes next week
Out: Roberton (inj) , Marshall (inj), Newness (selfish ball use pointed out by roo) , Lonie
In: Rice, Weller, Battle, Clarke
McCartin plays deep and isolated. Billings on the ball more as get frozen out on the flank. Acres also isolated forward more too.
Need a forward line with movement and players lowering the eyes more. Also goal kicking- watch your teammate kick, We missed 4 shots in the first qtr from similar spots all to the right.

Re: Changes next week
Agree. Sammy G and S. Savage must also be on borrowed time but probably saved by injuries to the above mentioned. Little excuse not to try Rice and Clark, again. Of course like every one else I want to see Long White Rice line up and bet on the first commentator to call Battle battling.

I don't really care any more; let's face it, all we're doing is shuffling the deckchairs around on the Titanic anyway.

Re: Changes next week
Acres in the centre unless he's resting on the bench or in the forward line.
I was flabbergasted to read ( Ape-Man's post in this thread; http://saintsational.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=94914 ). Richo was not playing Blake in the middle. Has not played Acres hardly at all in centre bounces.
Took Richo long enough to work out Blake was in our best 22, now it seems like he and his coaches are stubborn or playing favourites regarding the starting line ups after a goal is kicked.
I would rest both Gresh and Jack Billings to make a statement. Play Weller forward and bring Clark in to play in the forward line. Same with Dunny- play him forward and rotating in the middle in bursts. I would also drop Lonie. Try Newnes back and play Savage from the wing. Can't comment on Rice expect to say that he didn't look AFL ready with his speed and agility from what I saw in the preseason comps

What makes it even worse is we lose because we are cr@p but Brisbane are tanking for the wooden spoon already.silverhalo wrote:I don't really care any more; let's face it, all we're doing is shuffling the deckchairs around on the Titanic anyway.
If we are going to be this cr@p we deserve the No1 draft pick.

Re: Changes next week
Gresh needs a kick in the pants, but maybe not to the VFL yet. The Coach needs to show some faith and run him more in the midfield. He looked good and we looked better when he briefly went through there in the last qtr.Saint wagga wrote:Out: Roberton

Re: Changes next week
Does Geary qualify to be dropped? He should be close. He lifted in the second half, but he gifted Geelong at least 3 goals, 2 of them early. I suppose dropping the Captain is another crisis we don't need. I'd say time has run out for Long, but he teases with glimpses and you want to see what he'd do in a half decent team performance. So;
Out: Roberton (ill), Marshall (inj), Newnes & Lonie.
In: Rice, Battle, Weller & Webster

Re: Changes next week
I cant see Roberton playing so that is another out...
Lonie- Gotta go.
Newnes- IMO the most disappointing on the list atm. Big leap backwards.
Savage- His kicking to contests is just unforgivable. Terrible.
Roberton-
Gresham- Gotta be close...
I would bring up Clark for Newnes.
Rice for Savage... why not.
Weller for Lonie.
I dunno.. Bring Goddard in to run with Patton.
I cant find any stats from the Sandy game. I would really be picking on form though.

Re: Changes next week
I like this. Would affect consistency, but we need to know, and yes I think those four (Newnes, Geary, Gilbert and Lonie) aren't looking like the answer, although Lonie at least has intent, just too small.ChrisRyanSaints wrote:OUT: chipping the ball high
